    If Rakim came out rapping today he couldn't get arrested. If Drake tried to pick up the mic 20 years ago they would have laughed him out of the office.

      In my opinion gangster rap ain't Hip-Hop! There's a difference between emceeing and rap. And one day the rap scene has decided to go their own ways and leave Hip-Hop behind. I mean Hip-Hop is still living! It lives on in us. And we have the chance to carry it further to the next generation. At least to try!

    With all do love and respect to Rakim, the first half of what he said only was right. When he was coming up and in his prime rap meant something because he talked about life and being a product of his environment and those lyrics meant something. Today's garbage that you call rap and hip Hopyou don't even understand what people are saying and it revolves around the same thing.
    Now a lot of you may be saying oh stop acting old wrapping your time with garbage but guess what 50 to 100 years old I bet you I can play Eric B and rakim or Wu-Tang clan and it'll still mean something to people and they can appreciate it but this lil pump crap, nobody won't even know that he existed 50 to 100 years from now let alone a year from now. That's the ultimate difference between rap of my generation and today's garbage.

      Turntabelist uses records obviously. And an amateur use those machines that don't need records but got all the sound effects and scratching sounds. Sounds dead and dull like some of those drum machines. Turntabelists like Terminator x and all the other guy's of that era used records. And there technique of changing the records with no breaks in between is a art form.

  • @patriciawatkins9539
    @patriciawatkins9539 Рік тому +3

    Hip Hop died and can only be resurrected by new artists who think outside the box like Rakim did. Like he said it was about making art not money. Todays female and male rappers will sell their souls to get a record deal. They'll strip, grind and mumble themselves to the top just as long as the G's are coming in.

      As much as I love most of those guys, hip-hop is a young man's game. There's nothing wrong with veterans still putting out records as long as they find new inspiration and can stay ahead of their competition, but we need fresh new faces. Nobody was checking for Kurtis Blow or The Sugar Hill Gang in the 90's, so why should we depend on older rappers today when they are past their prime?

This music we had today was planted here and there 20 yrs ago. Somebody out there knows human psychology and so on. Just something to think about.
