The god Rakim deserves all due respect as a pioneer in Hip Hop and Charlamagne showed that in this interview.

"I Ain't No Joke" one of my favorites. One of the first rappers that just talked to you instead of yellin (that's what made him different), and lyrically insane
RAKIM is easily the greatest EMCEE I’ve ever heard. His rhyme schemes, cadence, demeanor, knowledge, that quiet rage and energy made him seem like he was way older than his age when he first came out. I was a senior in high school when Paid in Full dropped, I wore that tape out, had to keep rewinding in amazement. I lost count of how many times I bought that album. Like Ra said “RAP is Rhythm and Poetry!” And this Brother is in my opinion, the greatest Poet to ever bless the Mic.
Rap History: That's the difference between the uniqueness of talent and skill back in the day versus now. Those guys found their style from within. Nowadays, everybody bite off of everybody else, then don't wanna show respect or give credit to those who came before!!! Appreciate your history and honor the greats!!!
Yes!!!! After reading the book and seeing how his father and mother were team and just good parents! We have to revive our families!!! Two parents are needed for sure.

So keep starin soon ya suddenly see a star You better follow it cause it's the R" - Follow The Leader I don't know if youngsters actually appreciate just how far ahead of the game Rakim was. He literally changed the way MCs rapped.
Man that verse from “Follow the Leader” was a life changer for me. You could close your eyes and visualize Ra’s words. Man he was and is the blueprint. His inner knowing to follow through on his own path when everybody was sounding like Kurtis Blow and Run Dmc was the start of consciousness in Hip Hop.

This man has class, ruggedness, and more manliness than most of the rappers out there. If he is less than number 1 on your list..... Check your list again. Thank you Rakim.
One of the best interviews ever on this show from one of the dopest lyricist ever to do it #Salute
Real talk
💯Facts!
Indeed
Charlamagne is actually a Master at what he does as a journalist. He only jokes around with the guests that he secretly or "blatantly" doesn't truly respect as a person or as far as their craft is concerned. The god Rakim deserves all due respect as a pioneer in Hip Hop and Charlamagne showed that in this interview.
I'm glad he can humble himself when in the presence of greatness ..
If he wasn't part of the team the show would b trash. Envy is a horrible interviewer, and Yee is just ok.
i was thinking the same thing
Rakim a street dude dont get it fuked up
Certain acts DESERVE respect. They earnt it. Rakim definitely earned it.
“I can take a phrase that’s rarely heard, flip it, now it’s a daily word”... ✌🏾 ☮️
Timeless Line! Follow the Leader
Yes that’s one of his greatest line
Yup.."No tricks in 86's, its time to build"..."Emcee, means Move the Crowd" .."She thought, I was a donut, and tried to glaze me"
This the interview I been waiting for!!! Rakim definitely a real one
Rakim has always been my favorite rapper and now he is also one of my favorite people! I so appreciate how he thinks and presents himself. He is such a man of morals and principals. Rakim is Hip Hop. Thank you Breakfast Club and especially Thank you, Rakim, for providing me with such joy and self-confidence through your music!!
“Thought I was a donut 🍩 you tried to glaze me”.Everyone knows when this song came on , crowds went crazy at block parties as soon as the first beat came on.... legend for real who changed the rap game.
kay car unless you a gD
Man the Wop was in full effect.
That's a fact
Kay u dam right!!!!!!
Girls would Break they neck doing the wop when Eric B. For President came on.
Whoever gave Rakim a thumbs down, I hope your car battery dead this morning and yo daddy real name is Theresa
😅
I'm crying right now. Oh my God!! I'm dying lmao
🤣
😂
Hahahaahahaaaaaa!!! 💀💀💀💀💀💀
I seen him and Eric b couple summers ago. I’m 18 years old and love my dad and uncil for teaching me about the culture
He shouted out Sadat X, that’s so dope.
As i NY cat I love how the god still uses old school terms like “word is bond.”
That's 5%talk
Bro we still use the slang!, but that's a term we use when it's that serious, the slang will never leave.
I'm from the uk and I thought it was word is born 😂
Theres a rainbow inside your mind it’s “word is bond.” Meaning your word holds weight so whatever you say imma hold you to it; you’re bound or bonded to it.
Toney Italia Yes, we still use it but it’s not as prevalent or common as it was in the 90s. The same way niggas aren’t walking around saying “son” in every sentence like we did back then. Heard u tho.
Having a two parent household can really change a person
A positive one, not just any two parent hh.
tmitchem81 EXACTLY! 👏🏾👏🏾
So VERY TRUE👍🏿👊🏿
Yes, 2 parents just automatically means better life 🤦♂️
@The Sound Vault...idk about you but I think a lot of kids these days can use a positive/involved two parent household...you know what I mean 😒
Amen!!!💫
The list starts with Rakim. Everyone else is fighting for second place.
i wish Rakim wouldve made up that KRS line it fits him perfect
Said i was number 1, oh sorry i _lied_ .
im number 1, 2 ,3 ,4 and _5_ !
It's so interesting to hear Rakim"s thinking process. He's an introvert, so much respect to the god M.C.!
Yes it is....I just love him..
So how is the extrovert’s process thinking ?
@@Unknown-wl7vl Lol, why does it matter?

Caring parents
Yes!!!! After reading the book and seeing how his father and mother were team and just good parents! We have to revive our families!!! Two parents are needed for sure.
🤦🏽♀️ right
So glad Envy didn't start this interview with "For the people who don't know" 🙌🏾
lmao facts! he’s goody enough to do that
"Let's travel at magnificent speeds around the Universe
What could ya say as the Earth gets further and further away
Planets are small as balls of clay
Astray into the Milky Way - world's outasight
Far as the eye can see - not even a satellite
Now stop and turn around and look
As ya stare in the darkness, ya knowledge is took!
So keep starin soon ya suddenly see a star
You better follow it cause it's the R" - Follow The Leader
I don't know if youngsters actually appreciate just how far ahead of the game Rakim was.
That was crazy
The greatest!
Everybody... especially the young kids should check out "Follow the Leader". Its a masterclass in lyrics.
Dogs And Yoga indeed and he goes on for a 100 bars, with no throw away lines!!
Hands down....This man is theee G.O.A.T!! "I'll take 7 mc's put 'em in a line and add 7 more brothas who think they can rhyme....well it'll take 7 more before I go for mine now that's 21 MC's ate up at the same time"
Mic Drop, show over, turn off the lights on the way out
Peace ☮️
Talk to em… #Godemcee
Rakim one of the coldest to ever touch a microphone. So good to see people giving him his props while he still alive now.
Rakim and Large Professor are two of the most “New York” MC’s and it always comes out a their interviews “ word up” is in every other sentence.
Mr. D Brown definitely
Large professor’s accent is so new york I love it
prodigy a real new york mc too
I don't recall ever seeing Ra in an interview. He's such a quiet soul.
Aint too many.. He did one on espn sports center... And i remember krs 1 and rah digga interviewing him
Kay here’s one I did with a Rakim in Philly ua-cam.com/video/y2kUcw6z0-M/v-deo.html
Facts... I just saw him in a concert in Downtown Boston over here.
@@MichaelBrownPastorJITB wow mikey great job
He has a rare one with Nas, look it up.
Charlemagne actually moved the mic towards rakim instead of telling him to move towards the mic
John Turner it’s like ‘how do you tell him anything about the mic’ Ra is just ‘cool’ you gotta let him do him
And Yee didn't tell him to spit out his gum..
That's respect on the Godmc.. Same with angela
22:00 The one time Rakim cussed and he immediately apologized for his language...
Legend.
"I melted microphones instead of cones of ice cream!!!!"
Blessings, I am one of the few from my generation listening to Rakim, Gangstarr, Tribe & EPMD rather than most of the other stuff out here.
Respect and salute to the legendary emcee. thank you for what you did for the Hip-Hop Culture! love always bro

If *Rakim* didn't stand his grown about sticking with his flow, *Hip Hop* would still be using that old *Curtis Blow* shouting Cadences Flow on every song.... This is a lesson about individuality and uniqueness, while being brave enough to make a stand.... The true 🐐 of *Hip Hop.🤔*
