I just upgraded to the 90D and will eventually purchase this rig. It looks phenomenal. This camera is incredible and so underrated! People really wrote it off when it came out without 24fps and now nobody seems to care that it does. Great video mate

I noticed at 10:13 that you had to reposition the monitor... Is this something that happens all the time? That would really be a let down because I hate to readjust constantly when there is so many other things to be worried about than the camera/monitor adjustments. Anyone know? Interesting to see a Sony user go canon and also DSLR. I've always wanted to like Sony however the lenses are so expensive. I'm using a g95 now but going to pickup a canon soon.

Idk about the Sony lenses tbh. They're really good lenses and have great 3rd party support. If you look at the prices for Sony lenses and canon RF or Nikon Z the Sony lenses are much cheaper and there are way more options. Comparing EF mount prices is an unfair comparison considering EF lenses have been discontinued

Yo guys! Here’s the 90D rig build video I’ve been promising - hope you guys like it! Just noticed I forgot to include an HDMI cable for the monitor (I have a long one which is why I think I forgot it in the video!) so I’ve linked a coiled cable in the description!
I bought a rig for my canon m50 but the grip comfortability is a bit overrated, lol.
Oh no you think so? Unfortunately they’re quite different on each cage - I love mine on the A6500 and don’t take it off the camera but not so much on the 90D for every day usage.
I’ve had issues getting my Shinobi to work with my 90D no matter the format of HDMI output that I choose, my external monitor won’t pick up any footage.
just upgraded a HEAP of my gear, even got a ronin rs2, monitors, upgraded the 80 to a 90D.. attachments etc etc etc and completely missed that I cant use the touch screen at the same time the 90D outputs HDMI (and record video). Absolutely devastated, the touch screen is amazing for racking focus, that ability is lost with any external monitor...... f.

Hey Martin, don't have a video about a rig like that with the 90D, but do with the BMPCC 4K! It is my second most recent video.
Question about the monitor; I've found that other Canon DSLRs with an external monitor will downgrade their output signal from 1080p to 480p while recording, meaning you can't look at a full res preview on the monitor while recording. Is this true of the 90D or is it just a monitor problem?
Hey there! No issues with this my end, the Shinobi is a 1080p monitor and I got a decent resolution feed out that I’m fairly sure was 1080!
@@ItsTomRich The 90D and the M6MkII have this "new" feature where they will automatically switch to 30p when Clean HDMI-out is requested, EVEN if you had setup the camera to 24p. The camera is switching to 30p without telling you. This is not mentioned in the manual, and it's my main problem with the setup. However, I don't know if the camera maintains its 24p internal recording if you set it to not have a clean hdmi-out (with menus). Could you please confirm that the internal recording remains 24p if you connect the monitor in non-clean hdmi?
When the canon 90d camera is connected to an external device via HDMI during video recording, no images appear on the camera's monitor and this is not ok, everything else is perfect

Yes, but only in 30p. Even if you set the camera to 24p, the camera will automatically switch to 30p when it detects a clean HDMI feed.

I bought the monitor for my Canon 90D, but it turned out that when you connect it to camera it shuts off the camera monitor. It fine when you want to film with manual focus, but when you want to rely on autofocus (and i.e. tracking), you loose this ability. This makes it useless for me, as I do use autofocus while filming. I did use the function where I switched HDMI output to "clean" to have both monitors on, but then I couldn't make camera to start recording. For me it is 90D problem, and it's total rubish. I'm surprised how you fail to mention that little flaw to your 90D camera rig.

Yes, but only in 30p. 24p switches to 30p when clean hdmi is requested.
Hey man, would you recommend the shinobi over the ninja v?
Only if you’re not looking into using it as a recorder, I have my BMPCC so the 90D is more about fast paced shooting
Tom Rich I’ve got an a7iii, I’m concerned about the extra bulk and Huge file sizes of the ninja, i think I like how light the shinobi is! Especially for run and gun filmmaking... does the recorder produce better footage?
Max Boast Yes it will give you much better potential bit rates so the footage will definitely be better

Dummy batteries yes!
Battery life is great though so no real need

You want to use a different cage, but yeah the same principles apply!
