People have no clue how difficult driving a boat is especially in those conditions. Only highly experienced and talented boat drivers could pull that off without getting beached or capsizing. Cop did a great job.
Never underestimate the power of the ocean!!! That shallow water with the high tide will put you in a washing machine until it's done with you! I see the red flags, that boat is out there because idiots will always exist. Fine driving, those props threw some sand! Bet money there isn't a nick or bend to any of those props. Not even close to flipping it, but he did get her in there a little tight. That was some good piloting. Why do people insist on trying to go out past their knees when it gets rough like that?
So many armchair quarterbacks. Rescue boat was well handled and broached one wave to get turned around, which was done with pecision and skill. Awesome rescue effort.

Motor #2 might need a complete rebuild after that sandbar hit!! The bare minimum is probably 3 new props at $1K a piece. Life saved, though, so worth it.
Major trimming and maneuvering skills by Bal Harbor 5-0 to not get beached. Not sure he could have helped much being solo and in so shallow. he would have got pounded onto the beach if he left the helm for a second to grab the swimmer
When u can see the sand coming up from the motors would they just replaces impellers that day? I would think so just curious. I killed an inboard from sand shredding impeller when I didn't know any better before
Thank you officers, and rescuers! A lot of people don't understand the risk in those kind of maneuvers with those seas. This is "why the life jackets?" !

Boats should have an enclosed bow, and a nice outward flare helps stay dry. Some of the "high Tech" water shovels designs seem to have forgot something so basic.
As a former Police Dpt. Marine officer , I can't understand why in a emergency call and with that sea condition only 1 marine officer attend that rescue...you're not Aquaman!!! well, he was able to do it. so i guess he is aquaman. if he called and waited maybe the guy would have not survived, he was able to throw the guy a lifeline.
I tend to agree with you on that one, I’ve been involved in this type work most of my life and it’s a hard call. The helmsman has his hands more than full in those conditions and there is no safe way to get off the wheel to even throw a lifeline and ring without the danger of fouling your props and creating a bigger problem than you started out with. We now use jet skis in shallow work and tow a sled with a rescue swimmer when ever possible because then it’s possible to work in shoals with far greater safety and no exposed props to be concerned with. He was in a bad situation and probably didn’t know when he got the call exactly how bad it might become.
Guess this swimmer potentially dies with you at the helm in this circumstance. Glad it was him and not you. In public safety, you don't always have backup or the optimum amount of help. You use your skills and training to minimize your risk, even in worse case scenarios.
At no time was that guy in trouble steering that boat, he almost bogged it but experience is there to see. That almost rollover was never going to happen.
