  • Lürssen sets-up an Innovation Laboratory to simulate and test the integration and operation of a Marine Hybrid Fuel Cell System on board a yacht powered by methanol.
Since 2005 Lürssen has been involved in research projects aimed at using fuel cells on ships in order to advance sustainable shipbuilding.

Methanol is a vastly more benign fuel with regard to emissions, especially if harnessed with fuel cells. I am convinced this is the future for alternative maritime fuels. Work is steadily progressing too towards the manufacture of methanol from renewable sources (electricity from solar, etc.), using water and carbon taken from the atmosphere. A yacht buyer who had also invested in those research efforts sufficient for a pilot plant to produce an equivalent amount of methanol as their yacht consumes could legitimately claim that their yacht is net zero for carbon emissions.

If anyone is confused about methanol (good for the environment) and methane (worst known greenhouse gas), I strongly suggest looking up the differences. When I first heard Lurssen was using methanol, I was wide-eyed because I had incorrectly _assumed_ methanol was from methane, and the results would be worse; however, the two are not related at all!
I can't wait to see what Lurssen does next!

вы бы могли строить и жилье по доступным ценам, ибо народ на планете все больше скупает морские контейнеры для постройки дома
