Brian Jones was on the Sitar. This song was really creaking open the door to world music. Mick and Keith are 77-78 now. /still touring after 60 years
Beatles used the sitar on Sgt. Pepper.
@@williamjordan5554 Beatles used sitar on Rubber Soul, two years before Sgt Pepper
The Sitar is Indian, the country.
The song is about the death of a girlfriend, the 'black cars' following the hearse.
The sorrow of her sudden death.
Ah. Ending my evening with some old-school Stones. Paint it Black is one of my favorite Stones songs. I love the melody and the whole arrangement. The instrument Brian is playing is called a Sitar. Indian I believe. Thanks for the flashback!
Agree, always one of favorites ever of the Stones !!
Yup....and the drums sound cool AF....especially in the beginning of the song.
The Rolling Stones are considered the bad boys of rock & roll. I grew up with their early stuff. My favorite era of The Rolling Stones is from the 60's British Invasion. I loved the "Flowers" album. They had a lot of great early hits such as "My Girl", "Lady Jane", "Out Of Time", "Let's Spend The Night Together", "Get Off Of My Cloud", "Ruby Tuesday", "Jumpin' Jack Flash", "Honky Tonk Women", "You Can't Always Get What You Want", "Gimme Shelter", "Tumbling Dice", "Brown Sugar" etc.
"Angie", "She's A Rainbow".....
Sympathy For The Devil, Danelion, Can't You Hear Me Knocking, Child Of The Moon, Sister Morphine, Bitch, Time Is On My Side, Paint It Black, Heart Of Stone, No Expectations, Salt Of The Earth, Love In Vain, Monkey Man, Have You Seen Your Mother Baby, Standing In The Shadow, 19'th Nervous Breakdown.......way to many great songs from this incredible band from that era.
That instrument Brian Jones was playing was the Sitar, an Indian instrument traditionally used in Hindustani classical music. The Beatles also used it.
The lyrics for this song are very important. He is morning the death of his girlfriend and doesn't want to see anything but black.
So many people want to make it about something else, something esoteric, but it's very simple. He misses his love, his whole world is black.
This is definitely one of the Stones' masterpieces. It famously appeared in the movie 'Apocalypse Now', as did The Doors' masterpiece, 'The End.'
RIP Brian Jones and Charlie Watts. Thanks for your contributions to music.
that instrument is an sitar. Amiddle Eastern Indian instrument. Made famous back in the day with hippies by Ravi Shankar.
This is one of my favorite Rolling Stones songs.
This stones in their prime...such energy...infectious beat! This got my toe tappin uncontrollably....Ty guys
As pointed out dozens of times by now, that is a sitar. It is an instrument from India, so the sound you noticed is not Egyptian, but Indian. It was a trend at the time, along with the Beatles.
"The Last Time"...old school Rolling Stones
Brian Jones 😢 R.I.P. Master 🔥🎸
in the early 70-ies Deep Purple used to played it live
George Harrison also learned to play the Sitar after hearing it while in India. The absolute Master of the Sitar, is Ravi Shankar. His Ragas are a Spiritual Experience, with linked Arpeggios endlessly building and folding over each other. He played some big Rock Festivals in the late 60's and had a big effect on the Rock Fusion genre. The Composer Phillip Glass used a modified version of this music in his Movie Sound Tracks and Orchestral Compositions
That guitar-like instrument is the sitar. The Beatles incorporated it into some of their music also. "Norwegian Wood", "Love You Too", "Within You / Without You", and "The Inner Light". Not surprising, given that they had become enamored with eastern mysticism.
That is Brian Jones playing a Sitar.
This song is about a woman that he loves passing away "I see a line of cars and their all painted black. With flowers and my love both never to come back".
Teenage fans in those days were roughly divided in two camps;
Mods and Rockers, followers of Beatles and Stones respectively, sometimes
there were violent clashes, scooter vs motorcycle- camel coat vs leather jacket, etc.
The Egyptian sound was from the sitar. A gentleman by the name of Ravi Shankar made this instrument famous in early rock music.
Utter legends, you will never run out of good songs to listen to with them. They literally have been the biggest mobile party going for going on 60 years, wherever they played, you were at the best party you ever were at for a concert, freaked me out to see them. Try Can't You Hear Me Knocking, amazing vibe and jam, one of their best. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎷🎤🎶
Brian Jones was playing the sitar in this song and video he was the founder of The Rolling Stones he died in summer of 1969 from a suspicious drowning a month after being fired from the stones . Everyone has their opinions but mine is that the Brian Jones era was the best era of The Rolling Stones ! Brian was a multi instrument player he can be seen playing various instruments like the sitar , harmonica , mellotron , marimba , guitar , “Recorder “like on Ruby Tuesday and piano and saxophone and other instruments!
THe instrument is a Sitar, used mostly in Indian music.
It's a sitar first used by George Harrison of the Beatles in their Rubber Soul album in 1965.
The sitar is a plucked stringed instrument, originating from the Indian subcontinent, used in Hindustani classical music. The instrument was invented in medieval India, flourished in the 18th century, and arrived at its present form in 19th-century India. Khusrau Khan, an 18th century figure of Mughal India has been identified by modern scholarship as the originator of Sitar.
Used widely throughout the Indian subcontinent, the sitar became popularly known in the wider world through the works of Ravi Shankar, beginning in the late 1950s and early 1960s. In the 1960s, a short-lived trend arose for the use of the sitar in Western popular music, with the instrument appearing on tracks by bands such as the Beatles, the Doors, the Rolling Stones and others. Peace out.
Chod, I'd recommend their "Wild Horses" and "Beast Of Burden" !!
For a different Rolling Stones flavor, check out "Far Away Eyes". It's about "a girl with, well you know what kinda' eyes she got".
The greatest songwriters !
The sitar used in 60s music became popular for a while played by Ravi Shankar who is the father of multi platinum artist Nora Jones.
A sego is a type of water lilly . They are typically blue. There used to be a diet drink named Sego. The can had blue flower logo.
It's more like an India sound. That 1 strange instrument is called a sitar.
The sitar is an east Indian stringed instrument used in Hindu classical music
My favorite Stones song.
Didn't know it was the Stones?! Who else could it be with that voice?
Hell Ya !!!! The Beatles sang about how the world should be, The Stones sing about hoe the world is !!! MORE STONES !!!!!
The Stones were very young when they wrote and first performed this classic. Very mature lyrics for such young guys, and not just this song. The Stones pre-1968 were laying the groundwork for what was to follow.
That is a sitar that Brian Jones was playing. It's a instrument from India.
This song was featured in the TV series Tour of Duty
WHEN YOU SAID STONES CHOD SHE WAS BUSY YAWNINGGGG, AHHHHHAHAHA! :)
That instrument is a indian sitar excellent track
Welcome to Brian Lewis Hopkin Jones on the sitar, the original badass of the Stones
Great loved song
That was a sitar and it is tuned to the kind of scale they were using in this song.
This song is DARK!
Brian Jones playing a sitar which is an instrument from India.
Always felt a Hungarian/Romanian gypsy flavor to this melody.
very cool that you had the live performance..Mick was like 18
Them Jagger moves that Maroon Five sang about.🤣
Great selection. Great comments.
The song is about death. The death of someone you care deeply about.
Hey from a new subscriber in Aus 🦘🇦🇺 and Stones fan since the late 60’s ( yep I’ve been here a while) but not old yet 😉
Yes Brian Jones on Sitar , A tragic loss for the Stones early on . Stones are still killing it after all these years . A huge influence on every musician . Can you Say Super Rock Stars ? Play some of the early stuff off of High tides and Green Grass . I listened to this album everyday I faked sick from school and would sing along with this album every song . Paint it Black is one of my favorites too though.
That instrument is the Sitar. It is used in Indian(Asian) and Middle eastern music. It was very popular in rock music in the 60s and early 70s. Frank Marino used an effect to create that sound on his 2000 album Eye of the Storm. The song is He's Calling. This instrument was used by many groups.
They have about 300 songs so you have lots to "hear more of"😊
The lead singer is Mick Jagger, he's 78 now, still touring with The Rolling Stones and still just as energetic. The blonde guy on the sitar is Brian Jones, who was a multi-instrumentalist, and tragically drowned in 1969, three years after this song was released. The drummer Charlie Watts died last year aged 80, Bill Wyman the bassist, who is 85 now, decided to leave the band in 1993 after a massively successful sell out world tour. All the other members are still alive and have never stopped producing new albums over the past 6 decades.
Theme song from the Vietnam TV series Tour Of Duty.
Check out Havana Moon. It's a video of their concert in Cuba. First Rock concert since Castro
Great reaction.. Fave Stones tunes can change daily but today its "Time waits for No-one".. "You got the Silver".. "She's a Rainbow".. Peace
Brian Jones formed the Rolling Stones from the beginning but they banished him because of drug and alcohol abuse he's the one playing the sitar and he's a member of the 27 Club
I think the band were inspired by music they heard in Turkey.
Hope you both dig deeper into the Stones.
The songs I recommend next from the Stones are as follows:
Honky Tonk Women
Bitch
Tumbling Dice
It's not Egyptian, it's an Indian instrument called Sitar.
RIP BRIAN JONES..☮️🙏OLD STONES👍
I think The Beatles used a sitar in some of their songs but I can't recall the names of them.
Oh, my friends, I have to point you to a cover of Paint it Black by Eric Burdon and War from their album Black Man’s Burdon.
Personal use only recommended. It’s a tad blue in it’s adaptation and delivery. Spirit is another great cut. I saw them in 1970 in Philly open the show before Rod Stewart and the Small Faces then Grand Funk. They put on a great show to hold their own.
The stringed instrument is a sitar. Its a type of lute that is a traditional south Asian instrument. A lot of rock bands used them in songs during the hippie era.
Oh yea Brain Jones was a WIZARD check the Rolling👅Stones music video 🎼SILVER TRAIN🎼🎩🎸🎶🇵🇷✌️🌎☮️
Try these Rolling Stones gems.......Luxury, Fingerprint File, Prodigal Son and Salt of the Earth. You're welcome )
Heck yeah,let's go!
Sitar! The Stones are the coolest. Check out Beast of Burden and listen to Keith's amazing guitar work.
Uhhhhhhh! - I don't know if anyone remembers this, but after "Beatles" or "Stones" shows, they would have to mop urine off of the floors and wipe the seats down. Those little girls back then used to fuckin' flip out, man.
The instrument you are asking about is a "Sitar" an Indian instrument George Harrison of "The Beatles" played Sitar also. Look up the song "Norwegian Wood - The Beatles".
That was a sitar. Love me old time stones. Bluesy rock and roll.❤️❤️
This is the most understandable, direct song you can hear. Dead girlfriend. So many reactors don’t bother to see the obvious, fortunately you guys bother. 👍
Their old laments are wonderful songs. Try “Beast of Burden.”
Vietnam era. Soldiers voice.
It's called a sitar guys
Wake up Dee 😜
Get her some seventies Stones stat!
Pretty cool, different song when it came out.
The very definition of rock.
If you want to see rooftop drumming, BOA - Duvet. They're an English band. I'm not saying the drums are impressive, just that they're on a rooftop.
What a great version!
That instructions is called a Sitar. THOS IS MUSIC FROM INDIA!!!!@@@!!!!!!
Fyi that instrument was a sitar an Indian guitar.
This is for Dee. Mick Jagger's moves are so famous that Adam Levine of Maroon 5 wrote a very popular song about them. This is that Maroon 5 song and a compilation of Jagger's dance moves. I think you'll enjoy it. ua-cam.com/video/jf35K2Ps_aY/v-deo.html
As an ex high school athlete, I can tell you that yawning just before doing something, like a sporting event, or a listening event in your case here, is a normal function of the body bumping up oxygen intake for whatever is coming next.
Back when the Stones were a decent Band.
2000 Man, please!!
Listen to Brown Sugar by the Rolling Stones .
We could turn the yawning into a drinking game🥱🍺😵💫
I've never seen anyone review Heartbreaker. You could be the first!
I love the Stones and thanks for sharing a vid with Brian Jones! When he was clean he was a multi-instrumentalist and shaped the Stones' badly image. Unfortunately he died far too young - RIB Brian Jones. Still, his successor Mick Taylor was an asset to the Stones and I think those years were their most creative. All the best @all from hamburg (germany)
One of their darker songs and brilliant z!
can you do a reaction to Train Man by Bob Seger System
People yawn to increase oxygen in their blood. Normally that happens when your breathing slows and your heart rate drops as you relax before falling asleep.
It's actually Indian, and a lot of the Europeans (and even Americans of the majority demographic) of a certain age group had shifted by then from being fascinated with the blues and those from whom it originated to Hindus, being convinced that there was some sort of spiritual truth in that which wasn't present in western religion/belief systems. Of course that fad allowed many gurus and yogis to cash in due to the fact that some of those cattle who had so been turned against their own origins and convinced to engage in absolute backwardness also had newly-acquired wealth to go along with their absence of wisdom.
This song is probably the first psychedelic rock ever. Emphasis on the rock. At least it has a good argument for being just that. It’s definitely the first psychedelic rock song mega hit.
Love thos song . Only a few dozen hits to go . ( almost 50 hits )that was an Indian sitar . ( Beatles used them a couple of this as well )
Really a sad song about the death of a loved one and the ramifications of it
