John Carpenter is easily my favorite filmmaker and Vampires was the last great Carpenter film. Vampires was the closest Carpenter got to making a western and I loved every minute of it.

@PlanetCHH I finally got around to checking this out, it wasn’t on any streaming services 7 months ago when you did vampire month in September of 2021 however, it is on both Tubi and Hulu and I just checked it out on my phone while I was relaxing to get ready to fall asleep for the night and I have to say I loved it.
The only other John Carpenter film I’ve seen so far besides, his iconic horror classic Halloween from 1978 is The Fog which I thought was great and the zombie/ghoul pirates in that were genuinely creepy so, I highly recommend John Carpenter’s The Fog from I believe 1980 if you’ve never seen it.

Only vampire movie I recalled where the vampire wasn't resting in a plush coffin. These suckers just come crawling out of the ground covered in dirt! Badass.

Love the review. Saw it in the theater in 98. I was able to meet John Carpenter at Dragoncon in GA in 98 when he was promoting this movie and it was awesome. He signed and took photos with 100s of fans.

When you put “John Carpenter’s” in front of any title, no matter how uncreative it is, it’s still bad ass.

Vampires los Muertos was a cool sequel and it was nice seeing Tommy Lee Wallace making one last film and seeing Jon Bon Jovi as a vampire hunter with a surfboard full of vampire hunting weapons was cool.

@ChristianHannaHorror. I love John Carpenter and I haven’t seen a ton of his films the only ones I’ve seen are the original Halloween from 78 which introduced me to his style of effective horror and The Fog from 1980 which is fantastic, most people call the monsters in The Fog 1980 ghosts.
Which that kind of bugs me maybe because, I always think of ghosts like your standard see through apparitions where, I saw the monsters is the fog as something more akin to Ghouls or even Zombies for that matter but, I loved the film.
I’ve seen this one on Hulu for their Huluween event the past few years however, I passed it up because much like you, I thought the title was quite generic but, since you were singing it’s praises so to speak if it comes on a streaming service this Halloween season I’ll definitely have to check it out.
I’m not a huge horror fan that has a bunch of horror memorabilia and owns a bunch of horror shirts and things however, this sounds amazing and it seems like it’s one of John Carpenter’s more underrated films as well.
I can’t wait to check out this film when I get a chance after it comes to a streaming service like Hulu which I’m sure it will for their month long October Huluween event like it usually does or has the past few years I’ve had the service.

@ChristianHannaHorror I definitely will, a couple vampire movies that I definitely think you should check out if you haven’t seen them is Blade 2 which I have not seen but, I constantly hear is better than the original which I have seen and love.
Also, a vampire movie that I don’t hear much talk about or word of mouth about so to speak is a 2014 horror comedy called What We Do In The Shadows.
Quite frankly, I had heard the name thrown around about the TV series that’s on FX but, I’ve not heard much about the film until, my cousin Grey who enjoys monster movies like I do from time to time, he recommended this movie to me and he said if you like horror comedies and not straight up horror movies from time to time you may like this 2014 vampire film called What We Do In The Shadows.
If you haven’t seen either like I haven’t they may be good reviews to do for vampire month just to get the word out to folks who may have never heard of them who don’t watch many in the way of the vampire genre.
Another fantastic one that if you don’t have it planned to talk about during Vampire Month here on CHH, is 30 Days of Night, I had never seen it until my uncle who enjoys a good vampire flick from time to time recommended it to me.
I have to say as far as Vampire flicks I’ve seen, the group of vampires in 30 days of night has to be the creepiest just in terms of visuals, again I haven’t seen too many other ones that have such a visually distinct yet, freaky look to them.
Another horror film that maybe would be fun to do if you’ve never seen it is called Freaky from just last year, it’s a fun horror comedy with a body swap element to it where, it has Vince Vaughn in it and a girl by the name of Katherine Newton who ironically looks like a much younger version of an actress named Amber Heard that I’ve seen in a lot of movies.
However, what makes Freaky such a fun film is it starts with a clear Friday the 13th style opening sequence with the 6 foot giant that is Vince Vaughn as the Jason style killer and he’s doing these insanely gory kills on these people at this one girls house that’s having sex with her boyfriend and of course, if you’ve ever seen any of the Friday the 13th series you know that only ends one way.
However, it takes a turn to with this chase sequence that ends with this high school age girl that’s a cheerleader trading bodies and she becomes the killer of the film and Vince Vaughn starts acting like this high school age girl.
It’s quite funny and Vince Vaughn you can tell is having a field day with this part he got and is making the most of it, it’s also fun because, when the girl body swaps with the killer she uses her curves and sexuality to entice her victims and proceeds to murder them when she has them on the ropes so to speak after coercing them with her sexuality.
Again, I don’t want to spoil too much except the basic premise however, if you’ve somehow never seen Freaky it’s a film I highly recommend if your looking for a goofy and fun horror comedy you can’t go wrong with Freaky.

@ChristianHannaHorror if you don’t have this one planned to talk about on Vampire Month here on CNN I watched a vampire film with my dad the other night called 30 days of night on Amazon prime video and I have to say that was the second time watching it for me and my dads first time and I have to say the Vampires in that movie are easily some of if not the most terrifying vampires I’ve ever seen in a vampire movie.
Being a huge dog person having two of my own a Boxer and Sharpei mix which he has the cutest wrinkles you’ve ever seen on a dog in my opinion and a female German Shepard named Dixie whom I love them both with all of my heart and I genuinely felt sad for that couple that their pack of Siberian Huskies the own get straight up mutilated however, it also has one of the most unique finales I’ve ever seen in a vampire film as well and you’ll know what I’m talking about if you’ve seen the film before
