The Howling not only looks fantastic but still plays with it's perfect blend of horror, humor and a dozen easter eggs for us film geeks. It's my favorite horror film of the 80s - period. Thanks for the review CHH. As always, you are "go to" not just for classic titles but for turning us (me) onto so many titles we're finding out about for the first time.
The Howling is my favorite werewolf movie but...last month I pre-ordered $300 in movies. And on Tuesday I ordered Fist Of The North Star tv series Blu-Ray and The Antichrist Blu-Ray $120 in total. WOW! The Howling is gonna have to wait unless they bring it at Walmart then I might buy it. Damned there's so much coming out it's hard to keep track! Nice review and cool video Christian!👍
I was thinking about purchasing Howling 4K from Amazon & before I could the price went up $8, I know I shouldn’t have hesitated. Now I play the waiting game. That price should go down eventually. Such a classic Werewolf movie.
The Howling all day long. ♥️ AWIL is too romantic and comedic for me. The Howling has so much atmosphere and creep factor. I prefer the transformation too, cause it's in the dark and scarier. Can't wait to get my copy!
Love The Howling and An American Werewolf in London ,Wolfen I'd say my all time favorite WEREWOLF Film is SILVER BULLET. But I could put all those WEREWOLF Classics on my List.

Speaking about the film grain, I good example is the grain in Freddy's Nightmares that is out on Screambox, in comparison to the fan release of the show, the film grain looks horrid on Screambox in some episodes. As for talking about Scream Factory releases, The Fog's Scream Factory release is kinda garbage in comparison to Studio Canal's version and I wish we got that transfer in the states. Happy that they are working with Studio Canal a lot more though.

Besides the picture quality upgrade are there any extra bonus features on the disc? I really love the original Scream Factory release, and the cover art is way better on that one as well. Also, any love for The Howling 2: My Sister is a Werewolf? I know it's really inferior to the first movie, but man, I have a ton of fun with it's campiness, and beautiful locations. Plus Christopher Lee is always a good thing!
Well initially Rick Baker was attached to The Howling, but being friends with John Landis years before, they had talked about the possibility of making AWIL. When Landis came calling, Baker had told him about his involvement with The Howling. We’ll as fate would have it Baker had a student by the name of ROB BOTTIN, who was given the responsibility of the work for The Howling. IMO The Howling is easily the best werewolf film due to the TONE and the secret society of the lycanthropes, led by Marsha Quist and her brothers TC and the one and only EDDIE. The hellhound in AWIL is just that, a quadruped, and the ending doesn’t even come close to The Howling’s, where Marsha’s hanging out in the local bar waiting for her cooked rare bar burger 🍔 🎉 Most like the comedy in AWIL especially David’s decaying friend, other than this , the David character doesn’t even want to be a shapeshifter where Eddie is what most people would want to be like, NOT the David character in AWIL. The transformation in AWIL is the better one due to Baker’s skill set over a young Rob Bottin who’s transformation I always enjoy over Baker’s only because of Robert Picardo’s acting right up to the use of the puppet head. The setting for The Howling is so much better than AWIL and the Legendary scene of Marsha and Bill making werewolf babies in front of the campfire in and of its self is better than anything in AWIL IMO, great review I don’t have this yet by when I do 🎉
I'm kinda with you when it comes to 4k films, I only really get them if I really feel like it's worth the price or it's a necessary addition. For example, the first batch of Halloween 4ks from SF. I love em, I plan on getting the other sequels (6-RZ2) whenever those happen. But then there are 4ks of films I already have or ones where they have fine blu-ray editions, like The Thing or honestly, for me, The Howling. I'm also a price snob, so with 4ks being $27-$30 for one movie, that can sometimes make me not too eager to buy one.
This film is definitely in my top 3 Werewolf films. Others being American Werewolf in London and Bad Moon. I actually didn't start diving into this Sub genre till my teen years
Everyone needs this one or the Import Studiocanal version of The Howling in their collection. Only advantage is the extra special features & goodies in the import one.
I own 2 copies Studio Cannel steelbook and the scream factory 4K and the scream factory disks look awesome in my steelbook but maybe I should watch the movie to see if I like it

This one also has the original mono soundtrack that hasn't been put on BD before. Also I'm ok with the features being just ported over. I mean, they're fun and informative still, and haven't lost their flavor.

i only saw the howling last year and i be being honest i dont get the hype i did not love it not hate it but i thought it was mediocre
