      Possibly, but astronauts are taken from the best of the best, hence the term 'the right stuff'. For a mission of this magnitude they would have picked the best from the *entire* world. Considering they were literally on a mission to save the world the crew would've had no permission from mission control to deviate from their mission plan, and in reality, as highly trained professionals, would never have chosen to do so themselves, especially after a first failed mission. It'd be great to see a sci-fi film where, scientists, astronauts and special forces weren't depicted as stupid beyond belief and emotionally challenged! Bad situations can involve competent people through no fault of their own to give a reason for a high tension sci-fi plot. It happens in real life ! (e.g. Apollo 13!)

    Pinbacker is NOT REAL!
    He is the insane part of Capa's personality, thats why you never see him un-blurred.
    Capa can't handle being responsible for all the personell deaths. When Maze confronts him at Trey's Suicide, he snaps and gives birth to Pinbacker. Remember, he just saw Pinbacker's ramblings on the Icarus 1.
    Take the scenes on the bomb. Pinbacker appears out of nowhere in this huge hall very well lit. He fights, lifts Capa up one-handed with super human strength (he is malnourished burned skeleton) - its Capa fighting his inner Insanity.
    Pinbacker isn't killed, yet he lets Capa proceed arming the bomb.
    Boyle wanted a movie discussing mental health in space travel and under extreme responsibility. Turning that into a slasher makes no sense. He kept in line and fooled everyone.

      @Pratyussh Kumaarr True enough, but there should be enough science in your science fiction story to at least get the premise of the ground. Otherwise you should bill it as a fantasy or space opera like Star Wars. It would be like going to watch a fantasy movie like the lord of the rings just to have the end credits reveal that you were watching some wannabe director review his own footage and pitching it to a studio. Not only does it kinda ruin the story, the whole premise is stupid.

    The Sun converts 600 million tons of hydrogen into 596 million tons of helium every second. Any bomb made by humans won’t do a thing. Also, nuclear fusion occurs inside the core, not the surface. It is sci-fi…. But…. It is like a movie based on knowledge of an elementary school student.

    • @jae52247
      @jae52247 2 роки тому

      @Marcus-Aerilius Maximus If you create a mini sun, you are literally creating a self-sustaining nuclear fusion machine. The Sun itself is powered by nuclear fusion in its core. So, no matter what it is made of, it has to be nuclear fusion. I know it is sci-fi, so it does not have to follow real science completely. But, most movies try to be more realistic than this. The idea of re-igniting the Sun is laughable, too. Initiating a enormous explosion aka creating a “mini sun” would not re-ignite the Sun. I am not sure how much the bomb that is the size of Manhattan would weigh, but I doubt it would even provide even a few seconds of energy that the Sun releases. The Sun converts 4 million tons of mass into pure energy every second. Unless you can provide enough mass and pressure, you cannot “re-ignite” nuclear fusion by blowing bombs. If nuclear fusion inside the Sun is somehow coming to an end, just blowing bombs won’t do a thing. You either have to provide more material (hydrogen or helium) if it is running out of it OR provide enough pressure and temperature if nuclear fusion is ending because environments that allow it are somehow being interrupted. Anyway, the main plot point of this movie is so unrealistic that it is hard to take it seriously.
