- The year 2157. Astronaut Max makes an emergency landing on an unexplored planet, where he is taken prisoner by the aborigine Zef and surrendered to the authorities. The local social order resembles a militaristic dictatorship of the 20th century. The power belongs to anonymous rulers, the Unknown Fathers, who erect towers throughout the country, which propaganda calls anti-ballistic.

Can't believe they got all that in a single movie! Feels more like a miniseries.
Technically they didn't. They had to cut it in two parts with total run te of 215 minutes
I thought the same thing about half way through. Crazy.
Must be 20 hours long
This movie was complicated.
This is amazing!! I have never heard of this movie…….!
A "Unknown Planet ... Inhabited By People From 1900 AD" from the title is such an undersell. I see elements from 1984 and others but this plot stands on its own
Logan’s run?
Prisoners of Power. A 1969 Soviet SiFi novel.
thats crazy that the bad guys justification was in fact "hitler was necessary for society to progress" i mean is it really that much of a communist fantasy to think you could skip slavery and go straight to equal rights?
did we just watch a Warhammer 40k movie about a lost son of the Emperor?

No the father's are the people who run US😂.
It's fascinating to see Max's smile gradually disappears during the story... Fascinating but also very sad😢
I've never heard of this actor so I wikied him and got more sad.

Max look like a surfer. 😂😂
lol he does

Hey this actually looks really cool! Thanks!
100%
Max is insanely handsome. It helps in all off world sci fi adventures
I think he would struggle in Hollywood because it is too generic.
In the books it is heavily implied that humanity has evolved in some ways. Max can feel radiation and it's effect on his body, he survives wounds we would consider incompatible with life, and can see in the dark. Ironically, the actor was dubbed because he has a speech impediment.
@@marshall886 or too *genetic*.
It helps in our world too lmao
It's based on a book called Inhabited Island / Prisoners of Power (1967)
by soviet authors Strugatsky who also wrote Roadside Picnic/Stalker
the state Max-sim lands in is meant as a allusion to the soviet state and the mentality of soviet citizen in that time period. Isolated from the western world, concious that their regime is lying, but also mistrustfull of the intentions of foreigners , and most of all fearfull of another great war ravaging their lands again, eager to believe that the might of the state will at least protect them from that. And so secumbing to the picture of the outside world their state wished to paint.
Hense all the references to Homeland and Forgotten Fathers and the geopolitical situation of the time.

You mean Russian author. Soviet is not a nation.
@@twirth8906 i'm using the term because their literature was celebrated as a sci fi classics and national treasure of the entire late soviet state

if the entire funds of the soviet union where used to pay for the "russian" space program or "ukranian" microprocessors that also marks them as soviet achievements rather then national ones does it not?
It is based on a Soviet cult book "obitayemyi ostrov' - inhabited island. Arkady and Boris Strugatsky - great book, absolute must to read to understand Soviet Era and the Power of SF in the Red Empire. And the book itself is a part of a Universum - Noon of Humanity. Beautiful hero's arch and deep sadness. Max originaly was called Maksym (mach-sym) Rościsławski - Soviet censors decided it to be too Polish so in later editions his surname is Kamerrer.
Thanks so much for the info,, I will look that up too👍😎
I'm not sure if it's because of censorship, since it's explained later that nobody could spell it, so he changed it to a simpler one, but he's still Rościsławski. Greetings for all fans of Strugacki brothers❤
"the radiation from the towers robs people of their ability to think critically" - amazing that Soviet-era protest SciFi parallels America's problems with Yambo and his cult of ignorant hillbillies. The protagonist Max is liberal in all views. The world he visits is the dystopian culmination of fascism.

The thing is, that's how the people of the Earth look like in the lore. It's based on a soviet sci-fi book 'Inhabited Island' by Arkadiy and Boris Strugatsky. The action takes place during the 'World of Noon' - the pinnacle of humanity's development, when humans have achieved Communism in its ideal form - everyone is doing what they like and aspiring to do better, and work for the betterment of humanity. Illuminati = military industrial complex + academia + media + government agencies.

That is the most gorgeous shade of red I’ve seen on this screen!
Love the ending that Max is now home and will fight against inflation. Greatness.
How when he destroyed that one thing that kept the society together, now there is power vacuum, civil war, and because army have the weapon still most likely outcome is military junta and im not even mentioning there are according the story neighbouring states just waiting for oportunity to invade. Personally i don't like these contrived hero stories when everything is destroyed in the name of "principles" with no real plan what to do next or regard to collateral damage. Why ii never go to Taco Bell, but ii keep 3 sea shells in the bathroom (for a joke).
From the title alone, i'm going to guess he went back in time, and the big shock twist is that it was earth all along.
_well i was wrong, and the title is misleading. The planet clearly has at least a mid 20th century level of tech development as they have tanks, mass produced textiles, aircraft and radio towers. The soldiers kevlar helmets and body armour pushes them up to atleast the 1980s and the widely distributed high resolution color flat screen tv sets and self driving vehicles put them squarely in the 21st century. They are, however, economically impoverished, as indicated by a lack of consumer goods among the populous. The geopolitical situation is also reflective of the mid to late 20th century but is highly simplified and not directly analogous to any one real world situation_
Everytime you say "Meanwhile ..." I hear Stephen Colberts voice.

Thank god the planet Max landed on was a lot like earth. Imagine trying to film it on another planet!!
Wow how does this relate to today's world.
cell towers? sounds like a lot of irony in this movie.
How did inflation enter the story at the end? Is Max planning on defeating inflation in hand to hand combat? Because we don't have a great idea on hoe to completely prevent inflation. We know how to send it out of control, but not so much the reverse.
@@BacklashMobileGamingChannel We do that much, at least. It's not completely out of control right now for example, Last year, in the U.S. the inflation rate very briefly hit 9.2%, then started to fall. Meanwhile, in post WW2 Hungary, it once hit 41 *_quadrillion percent_* and then kept going up. We now understand how to cause that sort of hyper-inflation, but knowing how to cause a thing is not necessarily the same as knowing how to prevent it. If I want to crash a car, I know how to do that, but that doesnt mean I know how to prevent car crashes. Breaking things is easy, keeping things from breaking is hard.
For inflation, what we lack is the ability to target a precise inflation rate without hamfistedly messing up the unemployment rate (because we know they are correlated via the expectations-augmented Phillips Curve) or just causing a recession.
BITCOIN TO THE MOON
Yo, Fantastic Captain, this is a two-part movie.
The first part of this Russian series was released in 2008 under the title Dark Planet. However, the follow-on film Dark Planet: Rebellion was released a year later.
Both films are based on the story The Inhabited Island by Brothers Arkady and Boris Strugatsky.
But, while the story was first published in serial form in Neva magazine in 1969, it wasn't printed in book form until 2 years later. Unfortunately, the book version of the story was edited by Soviet sensors.
When the story was published in English in 1977, it was done under the title Prisoners of Power.
And yet, it is unknown if the English language version of the story is the serial version from 69 or the edited book version from 1971. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
The Inhabited *Island*
Thank You will read the book
Is the 1969 magazine version of the text lost to history? Can't the english text and the 1971 book text be compared?
But why did the planet slide backwards technologically? If the Wanderer was sent there from Earth 20yrs ago, why wasn't a relief or simply backup/reinforcements ever sent?
The planet slides backwards because the last war was nuclear. It was so devastating that only handful of automated systems survived and entire regions of planets became uninhabitable (hence famine and wars with neighbours for remaining scarce resources)
As for the Wonderer, it's never said in the movie but there's an answer in the original book. Wonderer is not the only Earth agent on the planet, there are others in other states. Although some got compromised and killed by locals. Every once in a while he has "Trips" out of his institution. Either he meets woth other agents or flyes to Earth. But long story short, it is Earth who discovered the planet after its last war. They helped to develop towers from the shadows. While unknown fathers use them purely for their own gain, Wonderer incrementally stear population through his institution toward technological and social development. But still the process is expected to take decades. Without help it would take hundreds. The towers are needed to 1) keep outsiders at bay and not to start another apocalyptic war with neighbours 2) to stear population inside to better future through current hardships without them slaughtering each other without said control
it didn't....its a different planet. where did you get lost? you should probably pay attention or go watch the movie. It's in Russian so at least you will have to read....if you can't listen long enough
