There was an orange tree in my garden, planted by my father 50 years ago. When my mother died this tree died too. I play many times under its shadow and I remember the orange juice my mother made every morning for me. I loved this tree, it was a link to my parents. When I heard this aria, I can´t help but cry remembering how pleasant my tree and my life was.
Years ago when i was a young music student i could never get into Handel or counter tenors. Now I'm an old man, Philippe has turned me on to both. I love it! And, i love it when something or someone shows me the merit and/or beauty of something i didn't appreciate before. The value of struggling to keep ones mind open, listening, observing, as the years pass is important, i think. God is always talking to us. Love, ya know?! Peace, respect and regards to all.

This version by the inimitable Philippe Jaroussky is heavenly and brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. What luck to have lived in the same time as this amazing singer!

Großartig, dieses Händel-Konzert mit seinem Orchester Artaserse und einem göttlich singenden und dennoch natürlich, bescheiden und einfach liebenswert auftretenden Countertenor. Diese Stimme dringt übers Ohr direkt ins Herz. DANKE!!!

I was talking to my mom about countertenors and how Chanticlear got rid of all their good ones (a rant for another day) and I pulled this up as an example of a spectacular countertenor. And even though I've heard this piece a million times and this version half of those times, his opening phrase reduced me to tears. Not watery eyes, literal tears rolling down my face a few sobs. There is so much ugly, mean and vial in our world recently that this reminds me, at least, that something as simple as a C growing from silence can break through the haze and make us feel human again. The next video in autoplay was Kardashian outtakes, so my enlightenment was short lived and brutally killed. 😑
Unfortunately for you there is an explanation that is accessible to anyone with just a little intelligence that they are able to use freely. Philippe's quite exceptional singing is a glorious result of the combination of the great chain of events of human evolution, (morphological, intellectual, and socio-cultural), and a lot of very hard mental and physical work. Don't attribute the hard-earned "blood, sweat, and tears" achievements of real people to imaginary entities.
