Nothing but fun back then going to all those games in the Coliseum. The players werent that good but the NASL was still exciting and some of the playoff games were riveting with all those mini games and upped intensity.
Soccer had been played professionally in this country for more than 50 years by 1977. It was the culture or understanding of the game that was still not widespread in 1977.
I was one of those who attended this match and had the great privilege of watching Georgie play. I was 18 years old at the time and had been bitten by the soccer bug in 1966 when England won its only World Cup. Watching Bobby Charlton play in that competition made me a Manchester United fan. Can't tell you how happy I was watching Utd. rise to the level of the world's great football teams under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson. I never really realized the magnitude of Best's presence on this team. I can only imagine how is career could have been more magnified had he not given into his playboy lifestyle...Rest in Peace Georgie
The player taking the corner is Bobby McAlinden. He was the same height & build to Best, as well as a similar hairstyle, so the commentator often gets the two of them confused.
Told you he was a genius - takes the corner, crosses to his second self and scores!
"George best takes the corner and George best is on the end of the cross to fire home" - Anyone playing for the Aztecs not called George or best ?
'back-kick! that's a beauty!'
Soccer was in its infancy back in '77. Listen to the announcer who is new to the sport describe the action!

My lovely best 💔
Soccer in the United States was a baby back in 1977!
I heard "George Best" about 50 times on this video. 😁

The commentator can't even recognise who George Best is... says it all really
Or maybe the film is really grainy and hard to see he mad a simple error.
must have been a really good experience seeing one of the football legends, the great george best, but the stadium is empty!!!

Pub team football at its best!

Were there two Bests on the pitch - I can't follow what the commentator is saying

Why the referee has the number on his back?
The NASL did not necessarily subscribe to the notion that referees should be anonymous.
They still know fick all about "Succur"
look
RLOL commentator has no clue about soccer clue Best out on the wing passes the ball to best in the area and scores
Bests post-Trafford days were shambolic. Playing for these shite teams just earn money to fuel his addictions.
