I get a lot of emails and comments regarding cutting boards. Like when will be next cutting board video etc. So it was just the perfect time for that. Because of the current world situation (covid 19) I have actually
more than enough time for videos. I see it as a good thing or a bad thing. Recently I just finished making a modern, elegant design coffee table and I made a video too. It's currently in the editing stage. And in between, I squeeze this cutting board video.
These boards are based on my older designs with few changes. I have beautiful olive wood in stock and I sacrifice a little bit for this board and knife block.
The board with the tray is made from walnut/maple and Ash. I got the idea a few years ago when I made few of them for a client. So this is not the first one of this kind and the work process was very easy.
Because I don't like videos where is just one board being made or similar I thought I will spice it up and make a few things.
So in the end I made 3 boards one of them has a tray and I made one Olive wood knife block or knife holder.
I know that this isn't the best to have because the knives are exposed and so on but I really like the design and whole concept.
There are knife blocks that are magnetic and they are standing on the wall also uncovered. This may be even more dangerous but yet people still have them.
If you put the block in the right spot close to the wall and don't leave children to play with you will be fine :)
It took me 2days to make everything and one day to edit the video.
I hope you guys gonna like it and enjoy it.
A new video is on the way.
Thank you all for the kind words and the support that you guys are giving me. It means the world to me!
Please take care of yourself and your loved ones and stay healthy during these difficult times.
    Thank you!

I watched a different cutting board vid of yours last night, that I wasn’t planning to watch, but youtube Just started playing it for me…. it showed u doing all the little things like sweeping the floor and setting up vacuum gates, etc and I found it extremely entertaining! Your shop tools are wonderful to see in action and you’re an artist as far as I’m concerned! Thx for the vids and some great woodworking tips!

That olive wood is amazing. Such a beautiful grain. Excellent job on the boards etc. Someday, when this COVID-19 has run its course and is not if concern anymore, I’ll take another trip to Slovenia. It’s such a lovely country with great people. I really liked my visit there and encourage all my friends here in Canada to visit regularly. I was especially enamoured of Bled and the surrounding area. Just stunningly beautiful.

Very well done! I can tell you are very familiar with your tools. It's nice to see someone on UA-cam who actually sells their work for a living. And you have very reasonable prices on your boards. Great job. I also like that you kind of have a trade mark design for your boards. I also have a trade mark design for my boards as well. It's very cool for someone to see your work and know who did it by it's design.

I'm a Lukemia survivor and alive today because an "anonymous stem cell donor" from Europe provide me his stem cells for me here in America for a stem cell transplant. Happily, the transplant worked. I'm an avid woodworker and your videos give me purpose during my long healing process. I bought your cutting board plans to make for people who showed much cared about me during this ordeal. I am home now in my shop after 9 months in the hospital making your cutting boards to say thank you to people who gave me their love and caring. Keep making your videos. I would watch them over and over again (still do) while in the hospital and pick up little tips here and there to use in my own shop. You are a true artist! You don't use gimmicks like a CNC machine, you are a "thinking man's artist" that is why your boards appeal so much to everyone, there is nothing phony in your design. They are amazing!! You've helped me more than you could ever realize my friend. Would love to see more plans on different designs to buy.

Hey Jim.. That is quite a story that you had.. I'm glad you beat it and that things are turning around.. It was unselfish act with the donor and I'm glad it happened. We all should do what we can to make it better.
I'm happy that you get something from my videos and it motivates me to do them more. I show a lot of tips but not always talk about them. So I'm glad you catch them.
I'm just guy with wild imagination and who loves working with wood. So at this point i want to thank you for your purchase it means something to me. And be sure more is on the way.. I wish lots of health and productive day's in your shop. Good luck and thank you for sharing your story.
BTW you can always contact me via IG or show your work. I'll be happy to see it.

I purchased Cutting board Plan # 2 and am at the point of cutting to flip. You did not specify how wide to cut the strips. 500mm /10 = 2" maybe? is that what you used or is there another measure? Thanks for helping! I enjoy your work.

    • @Slovenianwoodworker
      @Slovenianwoodworker  3 роки тому

Yes it depends of the thickness of your stock. If you use 50mm thick wood then cut it around 42-44 mm. This will give you 10 pieces and nice pattern. The width of cutting determine the boards thickness and length. Thank you

    Hi
Great video. I'm trying to make a board with the cut out for the crumb tray.
How do you do it? I think you started off with a router and edge guide.
I'm new to woodworking and learning all the time. I just can't work this out.

    • @Slovenianwoodworker
      @Slovenianwoodworker  4 роки тому +1

Yes as you saw in video. Edge guide was set to desired depth and simply rout the material out. It doesn't matter where you start first. Just make sure it's the same shape all around. It's easy. Good luck

Angles for knife block pieces you can cut the easy way on mitre saw.
Set desired angle and rip it.
I did it by eye but angle was between 5-10 degrees

I bought your cutting board plan #2 and I have a question. You said "Easiest way for me was to set the rip fence by the shortest
dimension of the piece". I don't understand what you mean. You also do not have any contact info in the plan for questions even though you say contact me. How does one contact you to get questions answered?

hello master, I made two chevron-style cutting boards but a problem arose. after having passed mineral oil the wood at the joints grew back making a tooth. could you tell me why or where am I wrong? I'm sure your experience will solve my problem. Thank you in advance

    • @Slovenianwoodworker

      This is normal.
Once you apply oil wood will sucked that in and fibers will expand.
Because there are many pices of wood and each moves in it's own way the slight raising between glue line can be felt.
Solution : sand gently with orbital sander 240p just enough to smoothen the surface back. Change paper for either side.
      After that reapply mineral oil
      Good luck
