44. Sailing in Turkey | Sailing Marmaris to Gocek | Sailing Kawai | Best Anchorages | Travel Turkey

- @SailingKawai This week we begin our journey in Marmaris Turkey where we anchor off Marmaris town while waiting for our friends to arrive from Australia. We explore Marmaris before setting sail for the tranquil bay called Ekincik Bay. It's 20nm from Marmaris and we are fortunate to receive some great winds and sail the entire trip. To celebrate the time with friends we enjoy some Raki, swim, play some cards and then head out to a local restaurant which is a lot of fun. We are also fortunate to spot many turtles in the bay which is fantastic.
We head off early and catch some more consistent winds on route to Gocek. The sail is 40nm and we use the time listening to music and catching up. We had visited Gocek previously as this is where we purchased Kawai in 2018. We are excited to return and look forward to seeing good friends. We anchor off Gocek town in the bay between the 6 marinas. Gocek is extremely busy with hundreds of mega yachts lining the bay.
Gocek is a beautiful place with amazing restaurants lining the shore. We explore the town with our friends Damien and Nicole before exploring the hills behind Gocek. We decide to visit the famous Yuvarlakçay Defne Restaurant a 45 minute taxi ride from Gocek. We are not disappointed and love every second of our time.
About us:
Our names are Jason and Tracey and we traded our house, cars, business, job and security for freedom, adventure, travel and living simply amongst nature and the seas on our 45 foot Hanse 445 sailing boat, Kawai.
We don't know exactly where the winds will take us at this stage but over the last couple years we have sailed to Turkey, Greece, Montenegro, Croatia.

Thanks for the great videos! Next time, you should try Tekirdağ gold series. Raki is enjoyed with many different sorts of mezes and especially with cold melon and feta cheese as main side dishes. Rather drink it slowly over one hour or so and enjoy the conversation with friends. Also, another glass filled with cold water is a must. Enjoy the turkish coast and beware of wild fires. When Katie and I went to Ekincek, we took a guided day trip up the river. We saw the tombs, had lunch in a restaurant on the edge of the river, and spent time in the natural mud baths and thermal pools ! Was a wonderful experience :)

Hey John, yes we considered it! We had friends with us and a time frame but will be passing back through in the coming weeks so may complete the tour. We are picking some friends up from New Zealand in the coming days so will see what they want to do haha. Hope you are well mate!

Yes, all good here. Just had 4 days away with the car club. Our annual get together at Lake Taupo. Was beautiful there with all the snow around :) A bit different to where you are now !

Well thanks for making serap cry. Lol...😢😢 The hospitality of the taxi driver sent her right off and his wife peeling cucumbers made her very home sick. We'll be back next year to see family so all good 😉. Anyway, I have been enjoying the vids. Must be nice to have ya mates from Australia sailing with ya. Also look forward to seeing what you get up to in our old town of Fethiye such a great town. Looked a bit blowie there, but as you know that bay has great holding. Hey guys, sorry mate I wasn't thinking hahaha. Yeah the hospitality over here as you know is amazing! That's cool that you guys are coming back to see family, I can imagine that would be hard. Yeah we enjoyed Fethiye, we will be going back in a week as we are picking up more friends/family. Yes, it's our go to place if it windy, great holding which is always a relief :). So nice you're back on water. We're coming begining of September and that's the plan, first week down to Fethiye( Hilmi restaurant quite nice in the fish market) and then Gemiler and coming up to Bozukkale and maybe Söğut. To be honest, I'll come even now :-). Enjoy good wind and nice time there!

Hey Heather, it was something we considered but we have friends arriving in Gocek in 3 days and we are wintering in the Peloponese so are heading that way next. The schengen shuffle also doesn't make it easy haha. Hope you enjoyed the video :)

Who thinks Turkey is underrated as a sailing destination? Interested in your favourite Turkish anchorages, please let us know :)
Mine would have to be Kas Marina and town for that bars, restaurants shopping & city escape and also Kekova Bay with the smugglers bar up the river for the isolated peaceful anchorage
Not sure if you've been or planning to go but Cleopatra bay is a great bay. (near Gocek) Also a Quirky little bay is a place called seagull bay. There's a great little bloke who runs the restaurant there and you can Med Moore on his pontoon free. Just buy a beer or two from him or have a feed at the restaurant with his donkeys lol.. . (also in the Gocek area) cheers
