  • We are really fortunate to spend another week in stunning Turkey. This week we sail 52nm from Kas Turkey to Gocek to pick up some family and friends. We loved Kas but it's time to head back up the coast. We have 1 month until we need to leave Turkey and we will enter Greece.
    Our friends Will and Elise are Kiwi's who are working in the UK, they have a small window of time off, so we hope to show them a great time in and around Southern Turkey. They are both keen to learn more about sailing so we use the time to answer as many questions as possible and give them a variety of experiences.
    After collecting Will and Elise from Gocek we visit 2 larger bays East of Gocek where we swim, laugh and visit a beach bar. Both bays offer clear waters and a great vibe. We also sail into Fethiye where Will and Elise sight see the area. The sailing over the 6 days is great, with a variety of conditions to practice in.
    With perfect conditions forecast we head to Butterfly Valley and Karacaoren. These both offer some of the clearest water we have ever seen and we enjoy showing our guests. They hike Butterfly Valley while Trace and I enjoy snorkeling the bay. The night ends with a fantastic meal, lots of laughs and table tennis.
    We also celebrate my birthday with our Turkish friends and enjoy another great night out in Gocek.
    About us:
    Our names are Jason and Tracey and we traded our house, cars, business, job and security for freedom, adventure, travel and living simply amongst nature and the seas on our 45 foot Hanse 445 sailing boat, Kawai.
    We don't know exactly where the winds will take us at this stage but over the last couple years we have sailed to Turkey, Greece, Montenegro, Croatia.
    Jase loves making travel videos and we decided to upload to youtube to share our adventure. We really hope you enjoy and feel free to drop us a comment any time to chat or subscribe to follow along :)

    Hello guys, hope you're enjoying your time back on Kawai and on the water..! Now, it might just be me, but it appears you may have a pair of doppelgangers providing stock imagery to Yachting Monthly; please see November 2022 issues, page 31. We're just back from two weeks in the Ionian (Lefkas, Meganisi, Ithaca) and had a great time. Enjoy..!

      Hey mate, great to hear from you! Haha do we, I don't subscribe so I'm not sure, will have to try and find a copy while we are in Greece. Glad you enjoyed the trip, how was the weather? I heard the Ionian was coping it lately. We are great, near the end of the season, we are in Kalamata and will be leaving Kawai for the winter. Take care mate

    Lovely video. Classic lesson on using a winch at 11:50. Elise needed to get herself much closer to the winch so that her chest was over the winch and she could use her strength effectively on the winch. Always get your chest straight over the winch to grind effectively.

    Amazing video! That anchorage at the end looks incredible. Maybe one day I'll have a boat of my own to take there so I can paraglide round Oludeniz. What's the bar you guys were at with the ping pong? Thanks, all the best

    I noticed you placed the dingy on the bow section and at an upward angle to be able to open the hatches I suppose. We have the same issue on ours. What did you guys put between the dingy and the boat to achieve that lift.

    • @SailingKawai
      @SailingKawai  2 роки тому +1

      Hi and thanks for getting in contact with us. Unfortunately it's just the shape of our dingy that makes it look that way. We can't open our hatches when its in this position :(. We usually only leave it in this position for sailing and when anchored it sits on the swimming platform or behind the boat. Sorry I couldn't help :)

    Awesome guys! So nice to bring friends on board and show them around. Great video, as always!
    Just returned from a week on the beautiful Bavaria C42 ourselves and taught our friends some sailing too, so very relatable episode, what a week! One thing I noticed when you furled the main @Jason, was that there was a knot at the end of the line. The C42 has an endless line for this. Is this a specific Hanse configuration or just personal preference?

    • @SailingKawai
      @SailingKawai  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Jochem, great to hear from you :). Glad you enjoyed the video, it was a fun week. Glad you enjoyed your time on the Bavaria with friends, always good memories created. The knot at the end of the line was already tied when we purchased the boat, however it seems it was cut to finish with the main completely in, if anything I do wish it was a little longer haha. Was everything ok with your Bavaria?

      @@SailingKawai yeah absolutely. Apart from a few scratches and dents here and there. Guess that’s a common thing here with charter boats and tight Marina docking spaces. Really loved the self-tacking jib though! Unfortunately I had to move between the helmstation and the spray hood for the winches constantly. Only the C45 has everything in one place, like your Hanse. So we’re considering the C45 for next year, haha.

    • @SailingKawai
      @SailingKawai  2 роки тому

      Hahaha yeah every charter boat has a few and the self-tacking jib makes life much easier :). Good call haha
