I've watched 4 or 5 videos on this job and this is by far the best! Very clear steps, no unnecessary dialog, great photography! Thank you for keeping it short and useful!
Awesome video!!!!!! Thanks!!!! Timed it…. Took me 42 minutes but…. Top hose clap wouldn’t open properly…. Then dropped extension between radiator and bumper!!!! PS, didn’t drain radiator… just lost maybe a quart when pulling off hoses! & the zip tie on the belt….. saves so much time!
Thanks! Super easy!!! Did have to use 1/4” drive on that rear bottom bolt. Throttle linkage in the way! But the Ziptie on the belt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Heck yes!!!! I’ve been turning wrenches for years (hobby only)!!!
Do u have to cut the zip tie off after ? I didn’t see that part. Plz help I’m most likely having to replace the pump as well on my 2012 ford escape xlt and after watching this video I definitely want to try doing so myself
Not sure if you'll see this, but in case you do, thank you for the great video. Was a bit worried when mine seized up on my 2010, but after watching this, I got it done with little worry.
Good video man. Took me about an hour only cause of one shitty hose clamp that just kept breaking. Just finished mine about an hour ago, she’s been running since I finished. No leaks, no overheating, looks good to go. Thanks a lot.
One step not covered is to place a new gasket on the pump before installation. It was clearly installed in the video, just not mentioned. Most new pumps come with them anyways, so it should be fairly obvious. The rubber OEM style gaskets are generally a little better than the metal ones if you can find a pump with one included. I used to be a ford tech and did these all the time. Much easier than the insane internal timing chain driven ones on some newer vehicles. You can get away with only disconnecting the lower hose, but it's easier with both off for sure. Great video.
@TyBuzz that makes me nervous but if you say so. I've only worked on GM stuff so no clue on these platforms but my gfs is def making bad sounds on warmup. The weird location made for easy diagnosis
@@AllTerpsNoBrakes It probably wouldn't hurt to use some, especially if it's not the OEM gasket and pump. It'd be pretty obvious if it starts leaking, at least.
Man...thank you for the easy to follow, step by step water pump replacement video. Once I saw how small it was and not that whole contraption I was off to AutoZone. Thank you!
Thank you, I just wanted to make sure there wasn’t anything weird I had to be careful of when installing. I got an old 75 Mercury that is much more complicated and installing the water pump even slightly off could mess it up. This is much easier than expected, thank you again!
Glad i checked out your channel i own a 2011 Escape XLT thankfully all ive had to do to it so far has been front brakes and engine fan assembly had it for almost 4 yrs .....
What torque did you use on the pump bolts? Doing this since my pump failed and the book I have says 85 in-ibs. But since you didn't say in the video was just seeing if it matches. Thank you for your time.
Dumb question but the air will make itself out of the lines with the coolant reservoir cap off ? Because in my older Ford I could use a funnel and get the air out that way until it came up to temp
Yes it should. I filled it up with coolant and drove it to get up to temp and parked it and let it cool down and topped it off. Didn’t have any problems
How do you crank the engine without starting it? Mine is setup to where all you do is tap the key forwa and the starter will run until the engine starts
@@ausomecatman4636 No, see the diagram of the serpentine belts on the top of front bumper when you open the hood. I believe that 2.5L has water pump on the one serpentine belt area where on the passenger side.
Did everything like the video yet I can't get the belt on with the zip tie. The belt keeps getting thrown off and I tied the zip tie just like in the video. What am I doing wrong?
Great video. Glad I found it. I’ll be doing this same repair in the next two days. I will follow your instructions. One question, Is there a gasket for the pump? I think I saw a thin metal gasket on my current failed pump.
Okay. Finally got to this. Followed your video instructions. I also changed the thermostat. All is working well. Strange thing, my heater works way better than it used to. I would get mildly warm air at best and now it is very warm air. Again, thank you!!
I'm about to replace my water pump in a few days and your video was really helpful! One quick question, did you apply any gasket sealer on the metal gasket?
Just the gasket that comes with it is fine. I have to do this on my friend's car. How are you bleeding the cooling system of air tho??? There's no bleeder valve
@@ryanrobitaille5903 I just left it idling (sometimes revved to 1500-2000 rpm) with the radiator cap off. My escape was overheating before the water pump was going bad and took a while to get all the air out of the system

Hey man thanks for watching. That’s what I was trying to go for.

Thank you. You saved us more wasted time with the zip tie trick.
The ziptie tip…. Priceless !!!
This saved me hours! Especially the zip tie truck for that weird belt.
good deal.. thanks for watching

@TyBuzz only one with reviews at oreileys was a Murray and box claims it's OEM quality or better. Has a decent thick metal gasket

Great quick video !
The zip tie on the belt, took less than 10 min to change the water pump belt. :-) Thank you.

Finally getting to this today. Do you recall the torque specs for the three small bolts? I Googled it but found everything, except mine.
I don’t recall. I would assume 15-20 foot pounds.
I assume you clipped the ziptie off after it got onto the pulley right? This was really informative and in depth. Thanks.
Thanks. The zip tie broke after the belt rolled on.
Tks a lot going to help me. Neat trick with the zip tie.
Glad I could help
thanks man! nice video
Do you use any RTV when installing the new one? I figure since you scrape some off that you should put some water pump gasket on the engine side.
OUTSTANDING!
What torque did you use on the pump bolts? Doing this since my pump failed and the book I have says 85 in-ibs. But since you didn't say in the video was just seeing if it matches. Thank you for your time.
Yea that’s what the book says. I put my a little tighter about 100 inch pounds.

Hi I just remove the water pump. My pump moves freely but it leaks enough to make a puddle and it overheat. You think it cause that or other hoses?
It’s hard to say. If you already removed the pump I would go ahead and replace it and check all the hoses while you’re at it.
Great video, you have the exact same engine do you know where the cylinderhead temperature sensor is located? Pls respond!
thanks for the video,,,really good
very good job my frend.....buen video amigo
Thanks for watching
forgot to say..''cut the wire tie off ''lol
It will break off on its on.
Very great video man. Thank you
How did you bleed the system????
Thank you for video Brutha. I just subscribed.
will this work for 2.5L 2012 escape?
How do you crank the engine without starting it? Mine is setup to where all you do is tap the key forwa and the starter will run until the engine starts
All you need to do is tap the key forward for a split second and then turn the key back to off position.
Good job Jacob!
Can I use a burp funnel to bleed the air out without reving the engine. Or is reving up a must? Im replacing the thermostat while im right there also
Didn't see you remove the plastic tie wrap...
Thank You!
Your welcome
Do you keep the zip tie on the belt?
buen good video like
Awesome. Thanks for this.
I have the same escape, quick question. Do they have a bleeder screw ?
Not that I know of.
Sir, How did you know there is issue with your water pump? thanks,
What torque setting did you use? I’ve seen anywhere from 25-89 inch pounds on several videos.
I did it by feel. But I would say at least 89 inch pounds.
Okay, thanks
No problem
where the heck is the drain plug is what i wana know. looked easy until i tried. cant find my plug. everything seems covered
Same issue I have, 06 Escape V6, any luck?

He overfilled the reservoir right?
No gasket for the water pump?
It has a metal gasket
It was nice of Arlo Guthrie to narrate this video.
I'm assuming this is gonna be an absolute hell of a job if my pump has already seized up and broke the belt...
👍
Hope this video helped
Did you take off the zip tie??
I put on the new pump and gasket and it's leaking worse than it was before
Same
Where did you get the replacement pump from and what kind of gasket did it come with ?
This happened to me. We got the pump as an oem part on amazon and it has a metal gasket
Are you telling us there is no tensioner pulley that you are using this ty wrap gimmick???
Correct there is no tensioner.
Where the hell is the drain plug lol
you did not put the right coolant in
Wrong coolant dude. It should be the Ford specific Gold coolant.
dont forget to remove zip tie.....and dont buy a cheapo 20 dollar wp like i did that one did not last long
WHAT did Ford do to the 3.0 DOHC engine?????????? My 2002 is EASY PEASY, PLENTY OF ACCESS to pump, EVEN with a small belt tensioner there!!!!!!!!!
