Shopping isn’t literal… it is a metaphor. The stores are stocked with items that can be magical in the hands of the right owner (like the spyglass that helps you see your dreams)…and there are no limits to the number of these items - and the store never closes. Point being…chase your dreams and collect things (could even be experiences) - and everyone else can do the same. It is not a zero sum game where your success hurts others. Be greedy for your dreams. It’s OK
omg you would literally love DPR IAN's work, I'm not kidding. His music is so versatile and it's all telling a story about his mental health issues like living with Bipolar and DID, so many of the characters in his music videos are his alter personalities. Trust you would enjoy any of them if you ever have the time.

My interpretation: The Shop is a metaphor for our dreams and aspirations. Money is not everything. Time is short. It's okay to be greedy to want to pursue what we want in life. Take that leap of faith. In the music video she is collecting these magical items in order to achieve her dream of attending the sunset party. She later places these magical items in the shop for others to take. The final frame is her giving us one of the magical items. Basically telling us to take it and go chase our dream.
IU and DPR IAN 🔥
In the IU album interview that she posted she talks about the inspiration for this song. She mentions how kids used to have big dreams like being president or astronaut and these days kids seem to have more practical dreams like being a doctor or a lawyer. The song is about recapturing those big dreams without letting the expectations of the real world limit you. That’s a brief summary (from my memory). Yes if you have the chance you should definitely check him out. If you do start at the beginning of his releases as he has a whole storyline. Also love this mv it’s very Ian in its aesthetic. The song is amazing too.

IU album's are always good at making you pay attention to each scenario of the music video that highlights every single detail
Like what some commenters have pointed out, it's a metaphor like many of IU's songs. Shop with awareness but not in the commercial sense. It's about pursuing one's dreams. The word Television, pursue your vision is printed on the box with telescope, That's why there's references to the rightful owners, having no limit to what's available, everyone at he end was happy with their "purchases". This was also released after the Holssi mv with the shopping cart reference of pursuing dreams, and her mentioning that no everyone needs to be a flower but can be a spore or seed, potentially flying high and I suppose germinating into something.
You should definitely check out DPR Ian ahhh, he has crafted a whole story with his music videos, it might sound intimidating but it is very good and sooo so worth it, also he was not just the narrator and actor, but he also directed and edited and produced the mv, it's kind of what he does, and you've seen him before btw, he was CL's love interest on her video for "5 star" he also looks amazing in it, and his music video for "So Beautiful" is connected to CL's "5 star" and they have a few songs where they've worked together, I am actually getting excited just thinking about you checking him out hahaha

If you like thrillers then DPR Ian's music and music videos are right up your alley and it would be a shame if you didn't experience them! He directed, edited, and colored Shopper as he does for his music videos as well. His music and music videos are about his struggle with bipolar disorder and disassociative identity disorder - his music and videos are very raw but beautiful.
