You absolutely did the right thing. In 2012, I lost my heart dog to hemangiosarcoma when he was just 7 years old. We had no warning he was so sick. We opted to do the surgery and mid way thru the vet came in and told us his cancer was everywhere. We let him go on the operating table. It's such a devastating disease that affects so many dogs and catches owners completely off guard. I'm so sorry for your loss. Keeping you all in my prayers.

Im sorry for your loss. I lost my boy Sydney the "Schnauzer" November 28 2023. He was 14 1/2 years old and was going downhill for a few months so it wasn't a surprise. At least the morning that he passed, I believe he waited for me to wake up, I picked him up and he took two gasps in my arms and passed away on his own. He was a wonderful friend that loved to do anything with me. I understand your pain. Realize, you gave him a great life...

We are so very sorry, MJ and Izzy. We know all too well how devastating this is, we have gone through it too many times. For those of us who have and love dogs, they are a huge part of our families, no different than having a child. I only wish they could live longer. Clearly, you gave Sierra the best life she could have had, she looked very happy in the photos and videos you shared.
Dogs capture your heart. Having to make the decision to end their lives is one of the hardest things we’ve ever had to do even when your heart knows it’s the right thing to do it’s still hard.
I am so so sorry. I cried listening to this. I lost my heart dog last year. It's THE most gut-wrenching, but loving gift we can give them in such circumstances. My guy bounced back to himself, briefly, a few days b4 we said goodbye. He barked at the door until I opened it to find a huge rainbow stretched across the sky. I burst into tears; I had been praying hard about what to do for him. He smiled at me and we sat together watching the rainbow. I have that pic on my phone still today. Shortly after that experience, he returned to his sickly self. It was truly a gift from Above. I miss him, but know I will see my fur baby again one day. ❤ Hugs and prayers to you both.

I'm sorry for your loss. Losing a beloved pet is like losing a piece of yourself. Sierra had a long and happy life with you. Eleven is a good long life for a large dog. I'm glad you were able to be with her and give her a peaceful transition. That makes such a difference for you as well as for Sierra.
Rarely do I leave comments, as Dr. Seuss said, don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened. So sorry for your loss, take care.

I'm so sorry for your loss, it's been 12 years since I lost my German Shepherd and I still cry when I think of him. He was my "soul dog" so I completely understand.
Izzy & MJ this is Dave and Dale (sat next you you at dinner on the last evening at the NIRVC event). Dale told me how you discussed your concerns about Sierra with her. We too have a dog that's about 12 years old and showing signs of slowing down (thankfully she still makes it on our RV trips for now!). Anyway, we're so very sorry to hear of your loss. It's clear that you all love(d) your dogs. Your last comment about the rainbow bridge got to both of us. We say that prayer at the loss of each of our pets. Anyway, we are praying for strength and recovery that only God and time can provide for all of you. We're confident that all of our pets are in a better place and very thankful for the time He gave us with them.

I lost one my huskies to a cancer tumor on his spleen….. it did burst. I so understand the pain and the loss. You will never replace your girl but there are so many, many others that need a good home like yours. God bless and may be reunited, someday, with all our fur kids.

I'm so sorry for your loss! We love our furbabies so much and it is so hard to let them go. I cried when I watched your video. When we had to put down our large German Shepherd, I got down on the floor of our vets office and wrapped my arms around him. The dog was too big for a table. They asked if I wanted a chair and I said no. He was truly the best dog I ever owned. We have his niece, who was ten years younger than him. We have no plans for another dog. I do believe she went through a mourning period, but she is doing better now.
There are no bad dogs, only bad owners. Any breed is a product of their environment. Sending our condolences from our Family in Boston to yours. When we die and go to Heaven I believe all the dogs we ever loved are waiting for us there. 💔
You did the RIGHT thing that most dog owners don’t do. Remember all the love she gave you. I agree you want them there forever. We put our bulldog down several years ago. We have a new one who is great but I still think of our other dog all the time. Dogs are awesome.
I lost my Chloe two years ago. She was my heart and soul. I think about her every day. Give yourself time to grieve.

I’m so very sorry. My heart/soul dog was a basset hound named Maddie. We’ve had 6 BHs and 2 mixed breed dogs and out all of them, losing her broke me. It’s been more than 10 years and still, whenever I think of her, I start to tear up. It will take time before the sharp pain becomes an ache. May her memory bring you peace, joy and comfort in the future. ❤️

We came home from shopping for a Class A yesterday to find our 10 y.o. GSD curled up on the back porch in his sleeping spot, dead. Grateful to The Lord that He allows us to have good animals like we do.

Being an avid dog and any animal lover I feel your pain. It’s the hardest thing a person can experience. Losing a dog is definitely like losing a family member because that’s what they are a family member. So sorry for your loss.
I rescued a pit mix in 2010 she was the best house dog & travel companion. I lost her in 2022 . She had a tumor and decided to have surgery in Sep 2021 she never fully recovered and passed in Jan 2022 she was 12& half yrs old. . I miss her sweet face & she loved traveling in the RV. God Bless you guys. It is so hard to lose a pet bcz they are so much a BIG part of the family!

I'm so sad for you guys. I had a pitbull/American bulldog mix who was my soul mate like you said. We rescued her 7 yrs before having to put her to sleep, due to a cancerous tumor on her spine. But we had rescued her from a ditch, where she was half dead to a staff infection. She knew we saved her too. Every time she looked me in the eyes, she said thank you. I'm so very sorry, guys. I've been there so many times, and it does not get easier. I cry for weeks after each pet we've had to let go, but knowing they had the best life is something that helps me in the grieving process. She had the best life with y'all, and I'm hoping that does bring you some peace. Grieve as long as you need to...there is no timeline whether a pet or a human loved one. Pets are family, period, as you have shown in your love for your furbabies.

Condolences to you both. I just lost my Bitty in April after 17 years of memories, she was special and I struggled with it. I was led to this scripture that gave me comfort that we will see our beloved pets again. Rev 5:13
EDIT: Our other pup Mackie was not recovering from losing his lifelong companion. After two months of hiding under the bed for 6+ hours a day we knew we had to do something. This past Tuesday we brought home a 3 ½ month old Corgi puppy. Mackie is slowly coming back to life and has a gleam in his eye again. Yes, we’re crazy and exhausted, but well worth it for Mackie’s sake.

I am sorry to hear that. It's very tough for you both be well the doggy heaven has just got a friendly companion to run around and have fun.
I am so sorry for your loss. You DEFINITELY did the right thing. One of my Bull Terriers was diagnosed very early with hemangiosarcoma of the spleen and I was able to keep her going for nine months, but in the end she bled out on a night that we could not get her to the emergency vet because we were iced in at our home and the whole experience was horrific. Thank goodness Sierra and you did not have to experience that.

So sorry for your loss. Was so glad that you were able to hold her as she passed. A vet friend said so many owners abandon their fur babies in those last minutes because they say "it is to hard for them". The vet staff say these dogs often look around sadly for their best friend/owners as they are passing.😢

I'm so sorry, it breaks my heart to hear when a loved pet comes to the end of the road.
So sorry for your loss. We had to do the same thing with our Golden because of cancer. Our vet is amazing and I think he cried as much as we did during the procedure. We have since rescued a Great Pyr, and there are times that Maya looks at us that just remind us of Snowflake. Hard to describe. The rainbow bridge is so hard, but we know they are in a better place and not in pain. Huge hug to both of you....

MJ & Izzy, I love your term “Soul Dog”, because that’s exactly the same term I used when I referenced my English bulldog, Bob, that we lost Good Friday of this year. He was truly my ‘Soul dog’ in every sense. He got me thru the pandemic, sensing when I was feeling sad, secluded, lonely, and he was CONSTANTLY under my feet wherever I went.
