I love walking thru the campgrounds with our dogs and looking at peoples' rigs and setups! If people are at their sites, I might wave, say hello and keep walking. But if no one is there, or if they are inside, I like seeing their gadgets and setups and see if I can improve on anything at mine. For example, In Bar harbor Maine last May I noticed a couple with a bumper mount clothesline/dryer. When I got home, I bought one and love it. Not everyone is a creeper or looking to rip you off, although I do understand the need for some commonsense precautions. Later in the summer at Codorus State Park in Hanover PA, I saw an awesome screen tent from Gazelle. I just bought one and plan on using it on our 3 week trip to Yellowstone this summer. Just thought I'd throw it out that that not all gawkers are looking to score your stuff!
So right, I always look at the huge fancy motorhomes.. I'm surprised he's uptight about fellow campers checking out his $$$$$$ rig.. we're in a 2022 5th wheel now, know what it cost, so of course I'm looking..
@@EndlessRVing Oh you were!!! wanted to ask about you saying, you can't go without tint on your to front side windows?? Everywhere you go it's legal?? It's not in California, Oregon, Arizona, Washington n Nevada, it's a fine n fix it and cleared by my home state, California highway patrol ((CHP)) NO driver or passenger windows
3 M security tint/film takes extra time to break a window. Doesn’t save the window just takes a lot longer to break through and gives you a chance to react if you are in the RV.
Gosh... I was fulltiming in the eighties for 6 years with a Coachmen 38' 5th wheel and then the 37' Winnebago Elandan and we never worried about anything like that. So sad what happened to society in the mean time. Mind you, we did paint a number on top of the roof, so it could be seen from the air, just in case it was stolen. We truly never ever had anything stolen or gotten missing in all that time. Working as a team together, like you two, just made our travels easy, safe and fun! Safe travels to everyone reading this!
I remember a time like that, too. We left everything out, tent camping. Now, especially after covid, society has changed so much. Much quicker to anger and prone to violence. We lock everything up now when we leave.
I installed an RVlock brand entry lock with the key fob on our trailer a year or so ago. I wanted a more secure door lock than what came on our trailer. I felt safer with this lock setup until a month ago. My wife, by mistake, used the key to our storage bay locks, and opened the RVlock with that key. When she was done inside the trailer, she tried but couldn't lock the door back with that key, and told me something was wrong with the lock. I saw that she had unlocked the RVlock with the wrong key! I locked both the lock and deadbolt on the RVlock with the correct key, but then was able to unlock both of the Rvlock door locks using the storage bay lock key. I couldn't believe that I had paid extra money for a supposedly secure door lock that isn't secure at all. FYI, the key fob only locks/unlocks the deadbolt on a RVlock brand door lock. I am looking for another brand of lock, as RVlock brand isn't what it's cracked up to be. A hasp and Master lock would be more secure than an RVlock. I'm so glad my wife made a mistake by using the wrong key to unlock our door, as we weren't safe at night in our trailer, when I thought we were.
I recently bought a towable pop up. I'm single, female, older. Am learning a bunch from your videos, thanks. Good stuff to know. Want to be practical and safe and enjoy my life.
I painted bright orange and engraved all three catalytic converters on my truck AND I put loud cat-alarms on all three of them that are so sensitive that just bumping the exhaust system sets them off. If anyone tries to steal them, their ears will be ringing for awhile...and they won't be able to sell them because of the paint and engravings. LOL Also...fire safe! If something is worth putting in a lock box, why not use one that will survive a fire, too?
Literally had similar conversation with wife regarding airtags. We use GPS Trackers on our fleet at work and recommend them to everybody. Please note: Built in GPS can also be easily defeated. For Example, on Mopar vehicles, thieves can easily disable the OEM systems as it is built into the communications module/stereo. So I never trust the factory installed stuff and always go aftermarket and hide the modules. If they can "make a key" in a few seconds, they can do more than you realize. Might take me 4 hrs to install it, but it's also going to take them longer to find it. Time is the name of the game. Everything can be defeated (as mentioned). But the more time it takes them, the less headache in the long run. Thieves want quick in and out and not spend hours trying to get something.
If you buy a Tile air tag and you mark your item "missing", it will use all of the other people's devices on the Tile network to try and find your item, so you aren't limited to just finding the lost item within your immediate vicinity.
I was a builder and people said, "oh, you can't stop theft" to which I said, "but I can make it as difficult as possible". I set up barricades and made it as difficult as possible to get into my building sites and steal and it worked. On our Winnebago View, we LOVE our keyless lock. It gives us a lot of security.
I have been looking for a keyless lock for sometime 2023 Entegra Odyssey class C and I can’t find any that would fit. Glad you were able to safe travels!
Hey! That's ME walking by taking a look! I love seeing how the other half lives! I do try not to be obvious, but I love seeing people's rigs and set ups. What I'd really like to do is knock on the door and ask for a tour, where they're from and what they're fixing for dinner. I don't, though. You're welcome!
I use the locking hitch pins. It gives me a sense of security. The only issue I had, is when in the north during winter, the rubber cap doesnt stay on over the keyhole very well, and salt destroys the mechinism. I have gone to a few places that install alarm systems but they have an issue with cargo trailers, and not sure why. I figured a Viper type setup would be good. *Just last week, had a 4dr pu pull into blm land, but stayed parked on road- didnt pull into space to camp. 1 fm, 2 m. Woman stood at back of truck smoking nervously (short but quick puffs), one guy layed on ground, the other had walked over to my tr & trailer. They acted like they were scoping out my trailer! I took phone and started recording them. They jumped in truck n took off! Next day I left for about 1/2 hour. I got back to find a tractor - United rentals, with a huge empty flatbed trailer parked across from my trailer. I took quick video, but hooked up my trailer. He drove off as I was hooking up. Not sure if he had parked for dot break? Or if in cahoots with others - all they would have had to do is un- chalk, cut off hitch lock, and winch up on trailer.... Mine is 22'x8.5' wide and inside is 7' tall, so,larger/wider than most. Plus 6-250w solar panels on roof..... i need that gps system for sure! Situational awareness is a must. My family thinks I am paranoid, so I will send your video so they realize the reality out on the road (although no different than stick n bricks thieves 😢). Thank you for helping fellow travelers out!
We got a Blink system years ago. We full time. Multiple cameras with a big sign, does "encourage" thieves to choose easier targets. The one time we did have a porch pirate attempt to steal a package, he attempted to approach the RV at an angle to avoid the camera. He obviously wasn't successful and we had him at multiple angles showing his face. His parents were not happy watching their kid steal a package on my phone.
Hi guys, I wish I could say I do all of those; but I can’t. I did install a safe behind my bedroom TV to store my valuables, keys, and of course, my firearms. I don’t travel with a long gun; but, if I did, i would install my gun box under the bed. I’m really kinda interested in the GPS tracker and maybe the Ring camera. You guys really make my wife nervous when you talk about products. Thanks for everything you do for the RV community and thank you Izzy for what you do to keep your municipality safe.
I'm getting the RV Keyless door lock for my class C because it has a remote fob to ensure the door has been locked when I'm moving, especially through car-jack prone areas..
We also have a ring camera on our rig. Also added door sensors to each of the cargo bays. We hear a chime every time one of them is opened. Also have a ring motion sensor in the ceiling of our car above the driver seat so every time someone sits down there we hear a specific wind chime sound inside the RV.
I installed a Wyse camera inside because we had a break-in once. It served a double purpose. It notified me that I had a sound alarm go off which turned out to be one of my water leak detectors. I was able to fix it immediately. I also installed stickers on the doors warning that I have cameras and audio. I haven’t had a problem since.
I have a GPS tracker in both of my vehicles from landairsea, the one i have is the size of a hockey puck, has a built in magnet and does have a built in battery - its a small company that seems to have a lot of contracts with large companies, but it is all made in the US too
Watched you video when it came out and yesterday we discovered a unique problem with our RV Lock. It is not with the dead bolt lock but it is with the one connected to the door handle. I like the fact that if it is in the lock position you can't close the door and get locked out, however late yesterday the door was closed with the knob partially over towards the lock position. This allowed the door to close and it locked the door handle. Now we were locked out of the RV and needed a key to get back in. Unique problem.
My biggest fear is losing my motor home (class a) to a thief. This is a huge inconvenience not having my home away from home. So since day one I wired in a gps tracker in a hidden location. With it I can track to within 12 inches of its location and it never fails plus it’s programmed to notify me of any odd movement like a bump against it. It’s 4 years old and works still for a small fee. That’s my insurance. It’s funny to say if you protect your unit nothing happens to it.
New Jersey? Non-LEO having guns in NJ is about impossible. As a person that now lives in TX, I do not like going in the gun forbidden zone of the USA as my TX plates make LEO want to stop me, just to see if I have Guns. My family has lived in NJ since 1690s, now all my immediate living family has moved from NJ. So, how does one go through NJ, NY, MD, MA, CN, RI with TX plates? I would love to go, again, to the White House Sub Shop in Atlantic City. signed just don't want the grief.
I just want to share everything good except locking pin setup. I have a towable and went to a workshop recently at a rally where they talked about safety. One of the things I was surprised about was the danger of locking mechanisms on trailers to tow vehicles. They said that if you are towing and there is an accident or fire, the authorities need to be able to disconnect a towable quickly from the tow vehicle and to use a quick disconnect pull pin- just sayin. I dunno. It makes sense but I thought I would share for thought. I use a reolink battery operated stand-alone camera for campsites. I can see outside before going outside and that is important to me. It connects to my phone so it is perfect for Internet or no Internet places.
The Revelco anti thieft device is in my opinion the best to stop someone from stealing your vehicle. In short its a mechanical device you need to plug into your vehicle for it to start.
I always use the locking pin on the towbar. I also take all the safety cables and electrical cables and lock them in a compartment when not in use. I also remove the adapter pins from the car base plate . You know, the parts the towbar attaches to. It would be incontinent to replace them on a trip.
Always used lockable hitch pin sine back to the 1980’s. However, over 50 years of RVing I left many items out, not locked, and have never lost anything to theft. The day that I am fearful of this life, Im quitting right then. So far it has been an escape from those types of people that prey on others, much safer than typical neighborhoods.
An easy locking hitch pin is the one from Bolt, it is able to be keyed to your vehicle (if they have a compatible model) so you don’t have to carry around ANOTHER key. However, with everything going keyless these days I’m not sure what’s compatible anymore. But it’s great if you have a tow rig that’s a few years old!
I use a lockbox for my key and always close my windows but I also have a wyze camera system and have stickers by the door warning people in English and Spanish. Had a guy vandalize my camper this winter in Yuma and he was on video.
While locks will only keep an honest man honest, that's no reason to fore-go their use. It's like buying an insurance policy with only 1 premium payment. Also, I LOVED the big, scarey black gun! I din't realize the differance of air tags and gps units. Thanks for the lesson!
Thanks for pointing out the difference between "Air Tags" and GPS units (we use a GPS unit in our Gulf Stream 19CSK Vista Cruiser). Too many people now think that Air Tags are the "end all be all" for tracking stuff. Nope. Bluetooth vs cellular/satellite. Another great security video (as I would expect from Izzy). Cheers always!
Me being a new RV’r, I would be definitely looking at your RV as mentioned… only because of the screen on your windshield. That is so cool and I don’t have one.. 🤣. I’d be looking at your Rv also only to admire it … only walking by the front… as I have a Newmar as well.
I don't know if many people are interested, but sometimes you need to look at a problem with a lot of Angst. Like remotely switched ignition. That won't stop a real car thief's toolbox.. don't worry about it and switch the fuel pump instead. All newer vehicles have electronic fuel injection. And high pressure fuel pumps. If that won't work, hotwiring t motor is not going to make it move. It's more work, but think about installing a racing style of steering wheel that can be quickly removed. Then lock t end of your steering column
Very informative! We use all the tips you suggested except for the window tint. I have trouble seeing at night and those few times we have to drive in the dark that can be a problem. Thanks for the heads up on protecting our rig.
We use the hitch locks, motion sensor lights, and weapons. I would like cameras around the camper. We have a towable. We are saving for the keypad. I like the mountable wall safe. We have safe places in the camper where we stow valuables, or we take them in the car when we leave. Great ideas!
Hi Izzy and MJ! I love these videos. Loved the Air Tag how you explained about that. Love that safety box for the fire arm. I love all the safety features on your Rv that you put on. I remember you doing videos on them. Thank you so much for doing this video! See you both soon! Love you! ❤❤
An air tag does not track in real time. It updates every time it comes in contact with an I phone. It's better than nothing and you will sooner or later recover your lost item. I carry one in my wallet and one on my keys so when I leave them somewhere in the house I can find them. They are good for that
This is a great video with some wonderful tips. I'm going to buy the GPS tracker right away. Your channel has become my favorite RV selection among many others. Greatly appreciate all that you do.
We use the locking hitch pins on our tow bar, have a Bauer keypad (NJ Company), do carry one of those lockable valuables boxes, wink, wink. Like the suggestion about bolting in somewhere. Thanks for another informative video.
Lost key to my hitch locking pin & researched showed how easy it is to break off - 30 sec max. If you find one that improves on the concept, let us know. The two pins that secure your tow bar to the base mount are also weak areas. I use keyed alike locks NOT the clevis pins most manufacturers provide.
Air tags are a security risk. In a populated area, blue tooth connects to iPhones and other blue tooth devices to form a network that can pinpoint your location to within inches. When you turn off the iPhone, the iPhone becomes an air tag. The phone is not completely turned off. Now, android has the technology included to form a similar blue tooth network.
Definitely some good suggestions. The issue I find with combination locks is that in low light I have a hard time reading the numbers. In my. Vehicles, I have a small drawersafe with a digital lock. I secured it with a thick stainless steel eyebolt And a chain. We immediately upgraded to a digital lock and have cameras. I use y i cameras I got on Amazon. They have a cloud plan that is very affordable for 5 cameras $99 yr. Everything is defeateable but make it a pain in the ass. Good videos.
I wish i would have saw some of the tips a few months ago! Our New 2023 16.6 No Bounderies trailer was stolen after two days of being stored at a so called "secured" storage facility. Really sucks we're still in the hole $8K as insurance didn't cover the whole loan. 😢
I have the RV Lock brand on my truck camper. I bought the camper in January 2023 and it was one of the first mods I did. However, I would caution people to still carry the corresponding key (not the fob, the actual physical key) because my lock failed twice within the first year and the only reason I was able to get in was because I happened to be carrying my keys that day. Just an FYI 😊
Currently have & using keyless door lock, locking hitch pin hitch coupler lock Otto lock band for bicycle and propane tanks, game camera on door side of TT solar charged motion light and personal defense. It’s not that i don’t trust people…but I do care about my investments. Thanks Izzy & MJ
Nice list I think all the stuff you mentioned is great but it's only going to keep the honest people honest. I use the pin lock and have had great success with it.
I have used the locking pin , I go to take my receiver off and the key bends and breaks off.that was on my Durango. Now I have one on my truck and I can’t get the key to turn and unlock.
Hey great advice as always. Here in the province of Ontario, Canada you can only have your windows tinted to a certain percentage. Police officers like to be able to see who's inside a vehicle when approaching or for identification from a camera on a building. We too love our privacy though.
Haha! I hate that you said the black tank treatment comes in orange “flavor” 😝😝😝 I’d try the orange scented personally! Just joking; I love your videos. We will be going full time in July and can’t wait. Your videos have brought a lot of clarity about things I thought I knew and things I had no idea about! Look forward to meeting you one day if we should ever cross paths!
I took your recommendation on RV Lock a few months ago. Unfortunately, I could not install it to my satisfaction. I just couldn't get it to fit flush inside the cutout and I was worried about damaging something so I sent it back. I still would like to install one. Not sure though.
Question about your ring doorbell, how do you plug it up, it says through existing doorbell, we dont have that on our camper.. and how did you attach it to the camper?
orange FLAVOR -- lol ;) .....greats tips. with a towable where I often am off-grid /BLM I have 2 different detection type "products" active in mine at all times.
Thx for all the safety tips. We do have key lock on hitch, plus key pad on door. We also keep stun gun baton by the door with pepper spray since we boondock alot & spent 3 mos on BLM land in AZ. Hubby carries Glock 26 in a blue Jean jacket or vest when we are out.
Thank you for this video. Good concise advice and good camera work and explanations. You mentioned you work in law enforcement. May I ask what is your LE job that affords the freedom of RV travel?
@@EndlessRVing Understand. You guys are so knowledgeable, I mistakenly assumed you were full timers. Thanks for the prompt reply. God bless your travels.
Do you run a mobile hotspot 24/7, even when in storage? The cameras I know of, require an active WiFi network. I like the idea of cameras when in storage, but how would you connect them?
I have my rv motorhome in a storage place with lights, cameras and locking gates. But these used a prybard to open up all my rv basement compartments. What should I do to prevent this is the future?
We installed a small safe.. our rv mechanic ran into it and had to ask where we got it.. cause he had never thought about it or even ever seen 1.. he wasn't sure what it was at first.. he had to ask.. yes its that well hidden.. have had that the 6 yrs we have owned the motorhome.. that was the 2nd thing we changed.. 1st was the mattress...lol
LOL I am always looking at other people's set ups, especially the newer models (day dreaming of maybe one day upgrading). I never thought I was putting off stalker or thief vibes, but I can see how it could appear that way).

The fact they are saying they need to disconnect quickly means it’s is not secure. You have to weigh the pros and cons
When we camped our Akita ensured everyone stayed out of our site and peace of mind at night, lol
😂
Yes we get that comment all the time and people have a false sense of what an air tag is capable of.
I use the Optimus GPS tracker. Love it.
What version of the ring doorbell do you have? My fiancé and I were looking into getting one for our RV. I’d want one on each door.
Battery version
Very informative! We use all the tips you suggested except for the window tint. I have trouble seeing at night and those few times we have to drive in the dark that can be a problem. Thanks for the heads up on protecting our rig.
I’ve used Bolt brand locking hitch pin. Superior quality and lock is keyed to ignition key.
Awesome! Thank you!
We use the locking hitch pins on our tow bar, have a Bauer keypad (NJ Company), do carry one of those lockable valuables boxes, wink, wink. Like the suggestion about bolting in somewhere. Thanks for another informative video.
PLEASE put a camera under the RV and set it up in a remote location as a catalytic bait car! That would be amazing, lol!
Keep the good advice coming!!!
I’m so very thankful for ya both! Thank you for this information🥰
I use them all except I don't use ring. I have a different camera set up thru Wyze.
Thanks for all of the good security ideas, from a fellow LEO from Oklahoma.
Thanks for watching!
Have you used a hidden fuel shut off,so if your Rv gets stolen, it only drives a few feet before the engine dies from no fuel?
We do have that ability
Thank you for the security videos! Very helpful.
Our pleasure!
We use the 1-UP ebike bikerack. We ordered hitch lock and ebike locks at the same time so they would be keyed alike.
Any system can be defeated. It’s about making it more difficult
Great ideas and info... thanks for sharing!
Thanks guys
In addition to the locking pin on the receiver hitch, the safety chains can be attached to with padlocks instead of "S" hooks.
Hi..! What hitch lock do you like for a towable? For when the camper is parked. Recommendations? Thanks in advance.
Thank you!! Great vid
We are retired LEO…..we carry. 😊
Love the keyless door lock! - Michelle
Great Information, Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for sharing!
We love MATT!!!! YAY!!!
I am new to rv world...in fact doing research on rv's now. These are wonderful tips for me...guess I will learn to be mechanical...lol
Ty
Our Forest River came with StarGuard GPS.... works well !!
That's true in New York too but I'm not sure it applies to RVS
Haha! I hate that you said the black tank treatment comes in orange “flavor” 😝😝😝
I’d try the orange scented personally! Just joking; I love your videos. We will be going full time in July and can’t wait. Your videos have brought a lot of clarity about things I thought I knew and things I had no idea about!
Look forward to meeting you one day if we should ever cross paths!
I don’t see the catalytic strap where to buy one
I took your recommendation on RV Lock a few months ago. Unfortunately, I could not install it to my satisfaction. I just couldn't get it to fit flush inside the cutout and I was worried about damaging something so I sent it back. I still would like to install one. Not sure though.
" Orange flavored" Yuck! 😂
when you buy a very expensive rv you will be a target especially when mad max hits soon
I wish the RV manufactures would provide a way to lock the outside fresh water tank fill. Anyone could walk by and pour anything into your tank.
You could invent a locking water cap!!!
😮😱
Question about your ring doorbell, how do you plug it up, it says through existing doorbell, we dont have that on our camper.. and how did you attach it to the camper?
It has a battery
Do they make those catalytic converter protections for regular cars, too?
Yes
What magnet shade? Where did you purchase it?
magneshade.com
orange FLAVOR -- lol ;) .....greats tips. with a towable where I often am off-grid /BLM I have 2 different detection type "products" active in mine at all times.
Excellent!!!!
What’s the orange thing on the muffler? Does anyone know? Thanks 😊
Never mind, cat strap 🤗🙃
Thank you for this video. Good concise advice and good camera work and explanations. You mentioned you work in law enforcement. May I ask what is your LE job that affords the freedom of RV travel?
Vacation and personal days.
@@EndlessRVing Understand. You guys are so knowledgeable, I mistakenly assumed you were full timers. Thanks for the prompt reply. God bless your travels.
@@warsurplus safe travels to you as well
How did you attached the Ring doorbell next to the door? How is it powered? Thank you!
VHB tape and silicone. It’s rechargeable battery powered
Do you run a mobile hotspot 24/7, even when in storage? The cameras I know of, require an active WiFi network. I like the idea of cameras when in storage, but how would you connect them?
We store at home
Loved it!
I have my rv motorhome in a storage place with lights, cameras and locking gates. But these used a prybard to open up all my rv basement compartments. What should I do to prevent this is the future?
Park at home
@@EndlessRVing Not possible as I live in the Bay Area of San Francisco. Are you aware of any replacement locks that can withstand a prybar? Thank you
Put keyless deadbolts on our house years ago. Can’t imagine carrying keys around anymore.
Just wondering how you secured the Ring to your RV. I’ve been looking to put on on. I have Azdel.
VHB tape and silicone
very informative video !! 👌👌👌👌
Thanks!!
Your videos are great..
Glad you like them!
Very sound security advice!
Enjoy your videos very informative. Not only like your Ideas love to read the comments to get their ideas as well thank you.
Thank you
We installed a small safe.. our rv mechanic ran into it and had to ask where we got it.. cause he had never thought about it or even ever seen 1.. he wasn't sure what it was at first.. he had to ask.. yes its that well hidden.. have had that the 6 yrs we have owned the motorhome.. that was the 2nd thing we changed.. 1st was the mattress...lol
Good choice lol
Great ideas 💡 guys!
Glad you like them!
what model did you find for the keyless entry lock on your BayStar.
amzn.to/448tiCr
LOL I am always looking at other people's set ups, especially the newer models (day dreaming of maybe one day upgrading). I never thought I was putting off stalker or thief vibes, but I can see how it could appear that way).
I installed a 5 camera system on my older motorhome that has DVR.
