    We’re Victoria & Craig! In 2021, we decided that we needed to make life a little more exciting, so we bought a used fifth wheel and completely renovated it. Then, we sold our house in Tallahassee, Florida and hit the road full time in our RV! We’ve traveled all around the United States (and Baja Mexico!) and fell in love with boondocking in our RV at the most beautiful places. In 2023, we upgraded to a brand new Brinkley RV Model Z 3100. You’ll always find us on some kind of outdoor adventure, whether it’s hiking the Grand Canyon, rock climbing in Yosemite or surfing the shores of Baja Mexico. Hey guys, I have watched every single one of your videos. Cant wait to join the community. Was sad when I ran out of videos to watch lol. You'll are the only guys I have ever watched every single video that has been posted. Don't know why I got so much satisfaction watching them. You all keep the smiles coming lol. Hope one day I get to travel as much as you'll do in my RV. I am a travel nurse. The last 8 months my RV has been in the shop for the frame failure. My clams from Keystone keep getting denied. But lawyered up so we will see what happens. Keep up the great work guys!

    The Gen-Y is the only reason we were able to get a 5th wheel. We run a video production company from the road and when we have to do a job we need the truck bed back to haul our gear. With the Gen-Y, and the puck system in the back of our RAM, we can get our truck bed back in about 2 minutes.
    I can't really comment on how much smoother it than than a traditional 5th wheel, because we've never had a traditional 5th wheel. Buy I can say that the Gen-Y is a super smooth towing experience. We hardly ever feel any chucking.
    If you're worried about it being more difficult to hook up than a traditional 5th wheel, I can tell you it's not that hard to hook up. We should do a quick hooking up video since we don't have that cargo camera. Without that camera I have a little different way of hooking up.
    Great video on the Gen-Y guys. We're huge proponents of it as well!

    We put a Gen y hitch on our new alliance avenue after my son had one on his 5th wheel. What a difference it made compared to our other 5th wheel. Ride is so much better, also handling better. I would recommend this hitch to anyone with a 5th wheel. Plus I have my truck bed back.

    I totally get your decision but have to say I chose to go air ride with 360 swivel shock control in addition to the 5 wheel's dampening action. A hefty $4k invested to stay off stress to the trailer frame stress and maintenance which will end up costing more than the hitch plus the down time expenses. Hensley BD5 series.

    installed the genY with the 5" offset on our new Alliance in April and while I've never towed a 5th wheel with a traditional hitch, I absolutely love being to quickly remove the ball and safety chain hooks from the bed of the truck. I can easily get to 90 degrees with a GMC Sierra HD 6-10" bed and there's enough space between the bed rails and the trailer to even clear the Revolver tonneau cover. Couldn't be happier. Thanks for the update, I really appreciate you guys.

    I bought the hitch and had it installed back in February and love it. Opens up the truck bed and while keeping space (w/out offset)between my cab and trailer on my 2024 Silverado!! Also you can unhitch and hitch without being perfectly straight! I recommend this to everyone I meet on the road. If you don’t know AZ roads are horrible and I do a lot of boon-docking. 👍

    • @wildrvlife
      @wildrvlife  2 дні тому +1

      Yes!! It's such a good benefit being able to hitch/unhitch without having to be straight. That was often an issue with our old slider hitch and all the places we boondock. Love boondocking in Arizona too!!

    We do love the way it tows our Alliance Paradigm using our shortbed Ram 3500. At the Alliance rally, Gen-Y was there and gave us the new flip switch with the pull cord. It was easy to replace, works so much nicer and we don't need that pull rod anymore.
    BTW, we are still itchy after that mosquito scene -- Yikes! Safe travels!

FWIW I've had Reese 4/20k Goosebox on my 40' TH for 5yrs and enjoy like yourselves not having a boat anchor in my bed also benefit of impact isolation from truck to RV which I believe is saving my campers frame from structural damage. I use the airbag to gain bed to trl clearance when boondocking and have added an extended ball as well. Been to AK 2X and am planning to make it 3X Happy Camping U2

    Really, it's a magnetic holder you wind your cord around and stick it to the underside of the hitch when you're parked.

    Great video guys and we met you at the Tampa RV show. Love watching you guys. I hear what you are saying about the slide hitch weighing a lot as well taking up a lot of room. Lucky I have a forklift to take mine on and off but still a royal pain. We have the super slide rated for 24,000lbs which is a little over kill but at the time we figured we might go higher with our 5th wheel. Decided that what we have is plenty for the two of us. We also have the air ride king pin on the 5th wheel. Certainly looking at that Gen-y hitch as it looks much easier and I get my truck bed back. So I have a 2018 Ram 3500 Laramie but don’t have the goose ball hitch in the center of my truck but do have the 4 pucks. I noticed you have some sort of an adapter on yours that tots into the front pucks. Is that available somewhere and goes that take the place of the center back that we don’t have? Let me know when you get the chance and save travels hope to meet up with you guys again. Mario and Susan.

    Hey guys, we got the same Gen Y hitch on our z3400. We recently had a situation where our RV did touch the truck rails 😮 ahhh! Was curious what clearance you have between your rails and RV and if you had to adjust it. I noticed it appeared maybe y'all had adjusted it more recently, so was curious.

    We have the Gen-Y on our Brinkley with basically the same truck except we don't have the mega-cab. Ours is just the crew-cab. I don't use the offset but the distance between the cab and rig is probably close to what yours is, I may be wrong on that. We have not had a problem with turn radius so far, knock on wood but then again we don't go where you guys go. I would recommend it too. I am curious though as to what you think about adding Sumo springs, especially after making the trip up to Alaska. We're heading there next year. If I remember right in that video you referenced gen-y plus sumo gave the best results. We full-time also so we are pretty heavy as you know. We're currently in Colorado and after doing these mountains I am going to do the brake upgrade in Granby, figured it would be a good time to get it all done. Also, how is the solar keeping up with all the rain? You may be going to do a video on that and if so you can just say "Stay tuned" LOL Sorry for such a long comment

    Good video 😊 just asking why did you get a short bed most rv's have long bed for better weight distribution in the bed over the rear axle short beds it seems for new rv's but ever they want safe travels

    • @wildrvlife
      @wildrvlife  2 дні тому

      Mostly because we are full-time and it's already difficult to find parking spots wide enough for a srw truck. So, just for convenience as an everyday driver.

      We have a 3500 long box with the crew cab & with the seats down there’s plenty of space for passengers. Our dog resides in the back seat so the seats stay down. Don’t regret the long box.

    How is the clearance with your tonneau cover rails when turning sharp? My MorRyde pinbox tears up the rails on sharp, more than 45 degree, turns.

      My last rv was terrible. I'm not sure which pin box it had. However, this one is great. I think rv would hit on the bottom of the cap before the hitch ever would.

    Hi y'all, love your content! Do you think the Gen Y could be hitched and unhitched at an angle without much issue? The spot I will be putting my 5th wheel is just big enough to let me back it in, but at an angle to the truck. Ground is level.

    • @wildrvlife
      @wildrvlife  День тому

      Yes, you can. I have multiple times, and it is much better than a standard 5th wheel hitch.

    We went to Alaska in 2019 and our understanding is that unless a sign says "No Overnight Parking" it is okay to boondock anywhere. That's what we did and never were asked to move. I am loving your trip so far. I remember one gas station in Tok that if you filled up with gas, you could stay free in their back lot.

    Hey guys, how do you like Towing the z3100 with a single rear wheel truck? My wife and I are getting into the RV life and we are questioning whether we should buy a ram Dually or if we can get away with a single wheel. We are looking at a 3100 as well.

    • @wildrvlife

      It is normal with the offset. Because of the offset, it can flex up just a bit.

    Do you grease your ball and if so what do you put over your ball when not hitched up to keep things in the back of the truck from touching the ball and getting greasy

    • @wildrvlife
      @wildrvlife  День тому +1

      I do grease it. If i put something back there and worry about grease getting on it, the ball can be removed in about a minute, or I'll throw a rubber glove it. I usually have some for the sewer hookups.
