when i was a kid, my uncle and i would spend the month of august every year living in a small wooden cabin with no running water, at first no electricity, and an outhouse. down the road was a lake. swim there everyday for a bath. for entertainment, i spent hours walking through the nearby paths through the woods. riding my bike down to a little one room shop to buy a coke. or bike into town a couple of miles and go to the library, get a stack of books and back to the cabin to read. eventually we had a wood stove. evenings we made dinner. it was perfect. and wonderful to experience. no need for phones. or computers or too many things. people nowadays are afraid to be alone with their own thoughts for more than 2 minutes. god forbid you have no mobile phone reception. a simple life is really beautiful.
Wow, $800 for three years board?! Of course there was the intensive labor too, but I'd chalk that up to tuition for an amazing experience and education. Look where it's taken him. Amazing!
You're totally right! The experience that Jacob gained building this cabin has lead to so many more exceptional creations later in life. I have a feeling we will be seeing lots more incredible creations from him in the future. :)
Without a doubt! It's really neat to see his creativity. We're designing a house to build soon and while our design will be more conservative than his, the creativity is really stimulating our own ideas. Great fun!
One interesting design elements is his use of natural light, and windows. It really takes your mind off of the floor plan. He also starts distracting you from the "smallness" of the structure by using such creative details, and unconventional lines on the exterior, so by the time you enter the house, it is not just a small space. Great work.
The philosophy was so nice to hear that the footage of the building ended up being a lovely bonus, rather than the main event. Thank you for this enriching video.
You're very welcome Donnell! It was really great to dive into the philosophy of building with Jacob. He is one of those amazing can-do people who just gets stuck in and tries things.

I'm only a couple of years off! I'm so close to achieving my dreams, I can almost feel myself being surrounded by the Pacific northwest woods and rushing water and fresh air.

It's one of the most interesting challenges of using salvaged materials. But he just walked away and left it there. He doesn't use it anymore. Now there's a structure sitting there, going to go to rot. It's going to take many decades for the Earth to reclaim it. Why doesn't he just dismantle it and repurpose the wood again for his needs now? Stop littering the forests with flash-in-the-pan shelters!

This comment might not make sense to most readers, but I know where he was coming from while being still ‘connected to society’, as a beautiful artistic Gooey 🦆! I can imagine the joy now on someone’s face when they move from the ‘mods’ and find this gem! Good work!! I miss Olympia and the woods. Many a good time behind F lot!
Wow this is really amazing! What a perfect little abode. I would love to live in a place like this right now, instead of a cranky city under lockdown. I don’t mind the lack of amenities or the simplicity of it...it seems like a great way to get into the rhythm of nature, waking with the dawn and sleeping when the sun goes down. It’s a beautiful location, too!
I know what you mean. I really resonated with Jacob's building philosophy. It's awesome to see cool and creative people out there doing great things in the world.
Luv to see this cabin with a bit of rustic furniture in it......it could be a great holiday cabin for those wanting to get back to nature and the basics.
Bravo. I am soo proud of the youth of today embracing the real work of humans. Very pleased to see Men using their hands, strength for real work, craftsmanship. Being with nature instead of locked down in a suit and tie choking your natural self down, holding in what you really would like to say and do. In the 60’s they made fun of us. This time around it is a declaration against this filthy dirty life style of consumerism. It is obvious now we have to live more naturally. There are natural products to replace plastic. Just takes more of your own time and heart invested in getting real. Thank you for sharing real life with us and for working so hard for a beautiful thing. Home.

Jacob is truly following his spiritual path . In my heart I know he will only find peace and happiness
That cabin is amazing for $800! I also like both of your t-shirts since I'm a Star Wars and electronics tinkering geek.
I just love this so much. The location is the best part, and those windows looking out into the forest.. just pure magic. Thanks for the wonderful inspiration, really enjoyed this video and hearing Jacob's insights
I love its remoteness and how its unique shape is towering almost tree-like ♡
Living big in a Tiny House's got Talent !!! golden buzzer for Jacob :o

I so love Jacob's artistic sensibility.
Love the unique lines of this cabin. Another great find!
For sure! The unique design of this cabin really sets it apart.
I absolutely love Jacobs Tiny Houses! They are works of art.
Finally, someone who didn't have to pay thousands for a tiny house! Would love to see more shows on "Tiny Houses on a Budget"
What a talented man he is!!!! i saw also the other videos with his work and he is amazing! love it!
This is stunning! I have already designed it in my mind and have moved in.
jacob's and Phil Reimers' places have so much more 'wabi sabi' than the storybook cottage. but it is good to see the difference... and the cost! WOW
Cool seeing Brice get so excited in an episode, could tell he loved this tiny house
He’s so talented 👏🏻
Such a nice place and his philosophy . WOW
I know what you mean. I really resonated with Jacob's building philosophy. It's awesome to see cool and creative people out there doing great things in the world.
This always reminds me of my childhood memories, living life very simple as this was very soul satisfying. Its very amazing.
Luv to see this cabin with a bit of rustic furniture in it......it could be a great holiday cabin for those wanting to get back to nature and the basics.
That's a beautiful place to go to get your sanity back 😀 that was a great video. Thanks man !
Thank you for sharing this beautiful home you built for yourself. You are a great creator. Much love 💚🌻💚
One more thing. Your response time is astounding
Home.
*😍 in love 😍* awesome story and life philosophy!
I love your passion and kindness. Thankyou for sharing it with the world!
So great to see tiny houses around my town Olympia!!! I hope you had a great stay here!!!
