    Most of these we have had in our shop do not come apart NEARLY that easy.

      So what do you do when they are rusted like this without cooking the bearing and hub?

    I live in North East of America. We called the Rust Belt states. Boy I wish that ez to remove the wheel bearing.. The salt just eat the metal up lol

    I don't understand why you wouldn't use the impact gun to break the axle nut loose.

    Laugh. That’s not a lot of rust at all. If only the cars I worked on had that amount out rust

    You forgot to reset the lock on the center nut that you loosened with the screw driver? Should have reset using a chisel to lock the nut.

    This improved hub design is brilliant.... too bad the previous models had the convoluted / complex set up.

    Very well done video. Audio was excellent, lighting was great. The camera views combined with your description as you proceeded was great. Your knowledge of this process is clearly exceptional. I really enjoyed this! Thank you!

    The procedure is to weight down the brake pedal and remove the axle nut, then remove the brake/rotor before moving onto the hub assembly. There's no need for a DIY jig to stop the wheel from turning, and lowering the wheel to the ground is not something that should ever be done.

    I did not see you re lock the drive shaft nut which is critical . A important step to stop dramas later on
    Otherwise a good video

    NOPE. 2008 still has the longbolt assembly. The entire knuckle must come off. Parts suppliers now supply the entire knuckle, bearing, etc. The bolt must be cut off when it is frozen into the bushings,.

    09 Forrester Question my Spindles are not floating like in the video in fact they seem to be seized (I think) I ordered a 3 point puller.
    Brake discs came off easy and the bearing assembly is loose but I can’t remove it. Any words of advice?

      @@markcutdavid yes I had to buy and use a bearing remover tool that you bolt on and use a hammer. Sorry I can’t remember what it’s called.
      Also unbolt and put your rear wheel sensors to the side I destroyed both of mine that had to replace them .

    I've just watched South Main Auto Repair do the SAME job 10 x more difficult.
    Thanks Nev, a great way to do the job!

    • @Joseph-eh4rs
      @Joseph-eh4rs 6 місяців тому

      Eric's South Main Auto is located in Northeast US where we get tons of snow and ice which means salts on the road. I live few hours east of his shop in upstate NY with most cars get prematurely rust. When Nav said there's rust on the hub, I laugh out thinking that's almost brand new hub compare cars in this area. Real rust in this area will fuse hub to wheel housing and will be almost impossible to get it out the way Nav did it in this area.

      @@MicMc539it gets so bad on these Subarus the salt belt that most of us just take the whole knuckle off and replace it. That wheel bearing will never come off even with oxy acetylene torch and air hammers

      @MicMc539 3 місяці тому

      @@DaDaDo661 I'm a great fan of S.M.A..
      In Northern News South Wales my 08 Forester has near to zero rust and if so it's only some minor surface stuff.
      I'd expect at least another decade before anything even slightly concerning.
      Of course I've never seen snow in my life!

    Can you explain why you needed to replace the hub? Ideally it could have been explained as part of the intro to the video.
    Thanks

    • @davcar872
      @davcar872 3 роки тому +5

      If you need to know why wheel bearing hub assemblies need to be replaced, perhaps you shouldn't attempt to replace them yourself. Ideally, you should leave it for the pros.
