I remember reading the two towers around the same time as these first few issues were released, april/may 2003 or thereabouts. By that stage you had your 12 goblins, 10 uruk hai, and then your uruk hai captain. If you put them together, you had a fairly lore accurate little army, considering that in the uruk hai chapter its mentioned that the force that kidnapped merry and pippin was a mix of isengard uruks sent by saruman, mordor orcs sent to recover the ring, and moria goblins out for revenge on the fellowship. Good times indeed
What a fantastic paint job. Love how brave you dived in with the oil wash. I’ve been nervous to try it but seeing this maybe I should give it a go. Also I heard if it’s tough to get off you can dip the sponge in white spirit or something to help loosen it up again. Might be worth looking into? Great video!
I've been nervous too to be honest. I've had the oils for a while and figured I'll just try it. I added some white spirits to try get more off and it ate my sponge haha. You should definitely try it, I'm going to use it again for sure I love the dirty gritty look it gives.
It has come out very nicely - especially for a first try! How long does it take to fully cure? Does it need fixing with varnish at that point (any more than usual acrylics at least?)
Thanks, I'll be trying again on the next 10 Uruk-Hai I think. Thats a question that sounds simple but after lots of research it people say anywhere from 30 mins to a week (but I think thats thicker when painting on canvas). My experience was that after 90 mins all the spirits had evaporated and it was too cured, I could have done with wiping it off after 60 mins. For me after 24 hours, no more wiped off, so I would call it cured enough to play with. I wasn't planning on varnishing as I like the finish as it is, but I'll see how it goes as I handle the model more during the battle game

I'm glad this video brought back such a great memory :) Thank you for taking the time to comment
Looks amazing!

This is very timely
Oh? How so? Are you painting up a Uruk-Hai army?
@@hobbyit I am, both the battle host and lurtz
Oh nice, be sure to see the video I did on lurtz too, for some inspiration. And there is one for uruk-hai too..
@@hobbyit I saw those and you've inspired me to play some of the adventures you've posted with my kids. We are playing one tomorrow
I love this! Enjoy, they are such fun, little scenario's
Just when I think it's finished, you do another paint technique to make it even better.
Glad you liked it. I've been waiting to try an oil wash for a while.
