I don't think the quality differences are very noticeable between ATSC 1.0 and ATSC 3.0 in general although I agree that HEVC should look better. I think that the quality differences you mentioned in the video are more related at this point due to channel 6.1 moving to RF channel 30 along with 51.1, having two Full HD channels and like 4 SD channels should've affected the bitrate. Good video.
It's a Graphical User Interface from Silicondust made for Windows PCs. It shows signal quality, signal strength, and symbol quality from a given HDHomerun tuner on your LAN. I'm using a Windows virtual machine to use the GUI on my MacBook Air.
Nice test, very informative. Do you know if something has changed since you did this? I just got HDHR Flex 4K and have all channels strong except 3.0. WTVJ 106.1 says “no video data” and WFOR 104.1 says “protected channel”
Very informative video. How quickly does the HDHomeRun switch between ATSC 1.0 and ATSC 3.0 signals and between 3.0 signals? I've noticed on both Sony and LG TV's with Nextgen tuners, as well as the ZapperBox they are very slow, much slower than between ATSC 1.0 signals. Heck even my old table top Sharp TV tunes between 1.0 signals almost instantly, and it's at least 10 years old now. I didn't realize HDHomeRun software actually shows the PLP layers. So far, I don't think any broadcasters are taking advantage of what the Physical Layer Pipes (PLP's) can offer. Just using bog standard setup to get decent robustness but enough bandwidth to fit in all the local stations onto one ATSC 3.0 signal for now. The demo's Antenna Man has done in the past with moving vehicles was rather impressive. However those were early ATSC 3.0 tests with just one streaming station from what I remember, so they might have amped up the error correction at the time. Keep making great videos!
Changing to ATSC 3.0 stations, regardless of whether or not it was just tuned to a 1.0 or 3.0, is slower compared to 1.0 stations right now. The HDHomeRun is also incredibly glitchy when using the 3.0 channels. Once you get the stream going to the client, it works well.
Hello, I need help, I don't know if it's my TV or the channels have stopped transmitting in ATSC 3.0, I was watching them the first few days but after an update from Sony I couldn't see it anymore, do you know if they continue with the NEXTGEN TV here in Miami?
Yes. NEXTGEN TV/ATSC 3.0 is available in Miami. The channels have never stopped transmitting. The signal had encryption from time to time, but Sony TVs should still be able to play the channels even with encryption. If your TV is still having issues after a fresh rescan, and your antenna connections are good, contact Sony for support.

I can't believe the Antenna Man was down here in Miami. I need to get out more lol
This is the kind of video that really answers questions I have had.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video!

It was definitely the compression by UA-cam because in person it is much better and way sharper on ATSC 3.0
Cool video 📹 !! I subscribed to ur channel because of Tyler ! Hope yall can team up again in future videos 📹 !!! :)
Tell me more about that software you are using … HDHomeRun config GUI ?

Unfortunately, all of the channels on WTVJ are now encrypted with DRM. They permanently left on encryption a few months after I posted the video.
Great in depth video!
