God is certainly using these men to teach & direct people to the Lord and I thank God for that !!!!...I have truly learned & grown through their ministry...
I appreciate Dr. Mohler and men like him who love the Scripture and the Lord Jesus Christ... I"m so thankful that God lead me to hear the truth of His Word and saved me... I am so thankful that I didn't hear a lie the first time I ever heard about God... what a privilege and gift of His grace. Thank You, Lord Jesus.
+John O'Connor Laws keep improving. We got rid of slavery, didn't we? It used to be the law, and CHRISTIANS supported it, they enjoyed and participated in SLAVE TRADE. Have you no sense of guilt and shame for what USED TO BE the law? We will soon be equally disgusted that gays and lesbians have been treated as second class citizens for so long. You still defend the anti-gay witch hunt that seems to have finally ended? What is WRONG WITH YOU?
I think you have to take his audience in mind; he is speaking to seminary trained pastors. This conference is for those in attendance, and some of your negative comments I feel are unfounded. He is not speaking in circles, it just the audience he is speaking to. I do this when I speak, if I’m speaking to middle school or high school students i would not uses lots of theological words, and quote Hebrew and Greek. But if I’m speaking to his audience I could and would uses these words because the audience would understand.
Much very good advice, especially about the challenges we face. I appreciate the way he stands up for Biblical sexual purity and the exclusivity of salvation in Christ. However (at about 37 minutes), I'd like to know what scriptures tell us NOT to speak about some subjects in the church. Titus 2 doesn't say that overtly. And most problematic, who are the other people we are supposed to delegate speaking about those unspoken subjects?
I agree. While some subjects should not be discussed from the pulpit, there isn't any subject that can't/shouldn't be covered one-on-one or in a small group.
At approximately the 30 minute mark, Dr. Mohler paraphrases a quotation from Luther: "We mourn every shipwreck, but we dare not turn our eyes from them." Does anyone know where the original quotation is from? I'm interested in reading more. Thanks!
+summervirus Faith based bigotry is still bigotry. Laws keep improving. Al recently has been quoting St. Augustine. Then he turns around and says that it's a sin to believe in Faith+Works for Justification, even though Augustine was a Catholic Bishop who believed in Faith and works ! That's pretty Hypocritical.
Your Problem is, that you don't dfferentiate between the "catholic church" of the 4th and 5th century and that what we see nowadays. So the fact, that he was a bishop in the 5th century, doesn't mean that he believed in a catholic soteriology which mostly involved in later mediaeval times. And even if he would have believed in workssalvation, that does not mean, that everything what he said was wrong. So to argue like that, and accuse Al of beeing a hypocrite, is pretty poor.
***** It's the same Church it was 2000 years ago. Augustine was a Catholic. Al Thinks the Catholic Church is bad. Al Likes St. Augustine, one of the most famous Saints and Bishops in the Catholic Church. Pretty Hypocritical if you ask me.
The Urban Wolf And again. YES he was a Bishop, but you can't compare that what is called the catholic church of the 4th and 5th century with that today. The difference is as big, as the difference between reformed christianity and the jehovahs wittnesses. And alot of great church fathers of the first centuries are Saints of the Catholic Church... What Augustine believed about salvation is uncomparable with the modern views of catholicism. To be honest I don't believe that you've ever read any theological literature from Augustine, or other church fathers, or anyone of that time. Your whole argumentation is just about the term "catholicism" as if there is something negative with that term. The apostle's creed says "I believe in [...] the catholic church". Does that mean all the presbyterians. lutherans, charismatics who believe in that creed are followers of the Pope? Absolutely not, because it is the Transliteration of the greek term for "universal". You shoud be very careful to accuse Brothers, with so little knowledge about the topic.
The Rebel Wolf Martin Luther was also a Catholic monk. However, he did not die a Catholic and neither did Augustine. Like all who are saved by the grace of God through faith in Christ, they died a Christian. That's the difference. As for "Faith+Works for Justification" - it's unbiblical! The sinner who's born of the Spirit by the grace of God is justified by faith as taught by the apostle Paul in Romans and Galatians 3 and 4. Catholics will use the epistle of James 2 to support their "Faith+Works for Justification", which to begin with is not what James was even advocating. His teaching conforms with the apostle as declared in Ephesians 2;8-10 - "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." This simply means that good works will follow when they have been justified by faith. The good works is merely the evidence of the sinner's conversion to a Christian. If "Faith+Works for Justification" is to be true, then you will have an issue with Paul's statement in Romans 11:6 - "And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work." There's nothing a sinner can do with their own works that can please God whatsoever! So by adding your filthy works to faith in Christ to be justified, it's basically adding your filthy rags to the works that Christ has done for His people. And that's an abomination to God!
i think his aswer is clear , the example given , older women adress young woman on certaing things only they know about , or there are subjects to be only taught by a man to men , might not apply to females.
Why are seminary professors being compelled to sign onto the 1689 LBCF, which is a man-made confession? It is a flawed document based on an attempt to correct the Westminster Confession of Faith. Both Reformed Covenant Theology and modern Dispensational Theology fall apart in Galatians chapter 3. Both also tend to ignore the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34. A contrast between the two covenants is found in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:18-24. Both the Westminster Confession, and the 1689 LBC claim the 10 commandments were given to Adam before the fall. Paul said the law was "added" 430 years "after" the promise made to Abraham "until" the seed(Christ) could come to whom the promise was made. Are we still under the 4th commandment, based on Colossians 2:16-17? In Galatians 4:24-31 Paul compelled the Galatian believers to "cast out" the Sinai Covenant of "bondage". In Galatians 3:16 Paul says the promise was made to the one seed, instead of the many seeds. Since the original "Calvinists" were baby baptizers, who drowned Anabaptists, how did we end up with those who claim to be "Baptists" also claiming to be "Calvinists"? Those promoting "isms", and claiming to be "ists" are violating Paul's warning about divisions in the Church, found in 1 Corinthians chapter 1. What a strange thing that Lawson is talking down to others about brevity...I agree with having your question ready. However, watch when Lawson answers (@ Ligonier conferences) what could be said in less than a minute and he goes on and on and on for 5 minutes. I think according to Spurgeon's "Lecture's to my Students," he would have discouraged Lawson from any public preaching work for his verbosity and the voice...CHS emphasized not being a preacher with a voice that may well wear congregation down by listening.. to nasal, screechy, plain hard to listen to, verbosity, praising your friends and your likes/loves adnauseum in the pulpit, etc....if all preachers read Spurgeon's book and were honest, they would quit what they were never called to.
I have seen it happen over time and time again a false preacher in time God will pull the rug out from under them and they are exposed . God will not be mocked Jeanie milhollin

I praise the Lord for a teacher theologian like Dr. Mohler.
Excellent to hear an intelligent biblically informed opinion on difficult questions. A concise opinion on some good tough questions.
