    I have a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am and I've had this security issue for a few months. I've done the method of leaving the key in for 10 minutes and then the car starts up . Sometimes it starts right away. Its been working for a while but due to life and emergencies i can't keep doing this forever . So I'm wondering what is a permanent way of getting rid of this???

    Once I install the 2.2K resistor and do the relearn process, can I use standard non-transponder keys? If so, I thank you because the spare keys will cost $2.50 instead of $80 to cut and program.

      Yes, you can actually get away with standard keys before such. Back before learning of all this. With my first white GT I had a spare cut at Walmart for a couple bucks and it would start the car fine.

    So quick question for you. Is it as simple as disconnecting the battery, going to either the BCM or ignition, cutting those two wires, and installing the resistor? Oh, and of course the relearn process. Some other people on several other videos stated they had to put a voltage tester on the wires and wait for a certain resistance, snip the wires, then install the resistor. My car decided it wanted to not be so nice and the security light came on last night, lol.

    I recently got an 04 Grand Am and I'm experienced working on cars but electrical is my weakest area. I completely understand and follow you about putting in the resistor to bypass this security headache. Is that option finished? I'm confused because at 5:26 I don't understand what you're doing, and can't follow what you're saying about it. Is it more work that must be done w/ the resistor, or, as you say a few seconds before this segment, around 5:19, is this the 2nd way this security bypass is done on the BCM side? Why did you take the lock cylinder out, unplug some wires, then put the lock cylinder back in? Thanks!

    • @KMaffittGAGT
      @KMaffittGAGT  3 роки тому +1

      So I'm show casing the entire ignition. Not just the bypass. The bypass can be done at either spot, whatever is easier for whoever is doing it! But it is a simple as adding that resistor in.

      @@KMaffittGAGT Hi there, that's exactly what mine does. 2001 grand am, I changed the key cylinder, new keys and all. Put it back together. Solid security light still. Do I need to have the security code erased with a code reader tool, (auto zone can check you car for free with them)? Or would I have to go to a dealer? I still have to do the 10 minute, wait in auxiliary position, trick but not all the time. I turn it to aux, in 6 minutes my battery light turned out, I then heard a click, then a hum from the fuel pump, it then stopped, I turned the key off then I went to start it and it fired right up!

      How I have it done here is taken from a write up that's at least 15 years old and has been used for that long! I've seen other approaches that end up with other conditions. This approach isolates the ignition out of the equation completely. So the bcm is only seeing the resistor. There's no switch in this setup. Only the resistor.

  • @jt9264
    @jt9264 2 роки тому +1
