Honestly, the GLS Airmatic suspension isn't really that bad without the E-ABC. I own the GLS 580 and driving a while with that suspension tends to break in and it gets better over time. Hearing your vehicle is just a review car tells me that you're experiencing the vehicle too early enough that the suspension hasn't mellowed out after miles and miles of driving. The Escaldes suspension is by far performing little bit worse than the GLS as what James mentioned is right.
aerodynamics aerodynamic, yes that is all that Mercedes Benz is all about. Mercedes benz know what they are doing unlike other manufacturers, the first most important thing in a car design is the aerodynamic and that is what the gls is all about if you look at them in profile, the escalade is juat a big box
As a leather aficionado, the escalade platinum is all leather (no vinyl) and the leather on the seats is semi aniline. The GLS you have has a vinyl dash and door panels and "standard" leather on the seats. Both the escalade and the GLS come standard in their base trims with vinyls seats though. The GLS can get full leather interior, but it costs quite a bit more.
You tested the GLS with the base suspension, The E active suspension (a more technological comparable suspension to the Cadillac air plus magnetic one) blows anything in the market away by a long shot, the curve mode needs to be experienced to be believed while still maintaining excellent comfort and composure in any mode. The fact is the Escalade is still a truck regardless of how much lipstick you put on it. The GLS is much faster, handles superbly better, is superbly luxurious and has the same if not better and more sophisticated tech for not much more coin. Essentially vastly better.
The GLS is simply a longer GLE. I’m not saying it’s not impressive- it certainly is. But the interior is nearly the same as a base A class. The Escalade is something special.
Congrats on 1 million guys, can't think of another car channel that deserves it more. And thank you for not making some gimmicky episode about it and keeping it about the cars. Continue the good work!
One thing nicer about mercedes is after 3 or 4 years people cant tell you have an older model vehicle. Soon as Cadillac has a new model out the old ones look out of style.
This Escalade looks better than the GLS. However, you're 100% right. This Escalade will look old after 3 to 4 years while the GLS will still look luxurious and classy. Good point
So in this comparison we can see the new Mercedes GLS against a big something. Typicall american engineering mindset, just make everything BIGGER and hope for the best.

Great episode. I'd take the GLS any day even though the Escalade has that big badass presence. I drove a previous generation Escalade and found the ride to be jittery and it had horrible bump steer. It was quiet when cruising and the 6.2 sounds great when you step on it but for the price that ultra refined feel isn't there.
I owned my 2020 GLS for almost a year now I say that so you know I’m not full of BS. This review as entertaining as it is and I like these two guys isn’t a fair review. You took the highest class Escalade and compared it to a low option gls580. The leather your looking for, the ride you expect from a S-class all comes with options. If a fair comparison of the fully loaded GLS vs fully loaded Escalade, the GLS is far superior in all categories.
The GLS looks so small and tiny compared to the massive Escalade, even though i much prefer the navigator, i have to admit, the Cadillac Escalade looks amazing
The new Escalade is amazing! Especially in that color. I agree that the GLS is just a big GLE and I would love a true S-Class SUV. And Escalade just has more presence. I’d love to see a review on the GLS 63!
Throttle House Question Of The Day: What is your favourite Intro. Mine was the GTI Rabbit video. Edit: Also, nothing like waking up on your Birthday to find that Throttle House has uploaded. You guys are awesome
The third row was not a fun place in the previous gen Escalade. That’s the big room difference plus the extra 8 inches of cargo space behind the third row. A lot of people have complained about those 2 things.
Curious about the new Escalade. Had a last gen Escalade, and now have a gls550. The Mercedes rides WAY better, and is shockingly powerful for its size.
In my humble opinion I think you are unfairly comparing the GLS to the S-Class and not to the Escalade itself, while you are directly comparing the Escalade to the GLS. If you wanted to compare the GLS to the S-Class you should have gotten an S-Class instead of the Escalade
@JAWSDAKILLER i understand that the "Hot V" configuration helps a great deal in responsiveness and packaging, but its still going to have a more progressive build up of power when compared to a large naturally aspirated engine. Kudos to MB for making turbo lag as nonexistent as its ever been though
@JAWSDAKILLER I don't doubt that it's smoother, but it's not BECAUSE they used turbos. They are just better at making their engines smooth. I would bet their old naturally aspirated engines are also smoother than the new Cadillac's.
Having driven the new Escalade for a few hours, the interior is cheap. Lots of parts from the Chevy parts bin. I’ll take the GLS with the Manufaktur Nappa leather interior, which is better than the standard one that’s in this video.
I live in a rich country aka Saudi Arabia i see escalades here all time with drivers, families, you name it!! its just so royal 👑 Americans know how to master the suv art
There is something very simple that Mercedes would never match to Cadillac: Reliability. The Escalades 6.2 eternal pushrod engine will last forever plus the fact it's still a truck based SUV that can ride like a proper luxury car. It goes beyond it's better presence. It's just better
The Cadillac will be in the shop for stablity and electronic issues every day. And no they don't ride like luxury cars, they're still jittery and harsh like trucks.
@@gabrieladimabua I'm definitely not saying it won't still be an issue but they did fix the main problem with cylinder deactivation in the 6.2. now the 5.3 still hasn't issues.
Everybody's saying both SUV's reliability will be terrible, are definitely not taking in cost of repair. The Cadillac may also have plenty of issues but the repair bills will be a hell of a lot less.
I’m buying the Escalade for it’s ride quality and driving experience. It still feels like a truck, but the smoothest and quietest truck-frame vehicle I’ve ever driven. I love how it has a genuine 4WD system similar to the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and can tow a remarkable amount of weight. The seats felt very, very cozy as well. The car in general fit me like a designer glove, tailored to fit me perfectly. I also like love high it sits, and how many people I can pack in.
@Hans Blitzkrieg uhh ok... speaking from experience, german cars do are not reliable past their power train warranties. Evidenced by their low resale values as compared to new. Dumbass
My wife laughed out loud at your into sketch. Personally, I would go with the Mercedes. The Escalade is just soooo much. It's a brick. It's just such a massive block of bigness. The Mercedes is sophisticated Leggo compared to the Jumbo Blocks that is the Cadillac.

Not gonna lie the GLS’s exterior isn’t really that nice... Just my view, nice vid tho
Yeah but those people who buy the vehicle, but that vehicle so we can look at the BADGE and think they are special.

aerodynamics aerodynamic, yes that is all that Mercedes Benz is all about. Mercedes benz know what they are doing unlike other manufacturers, the first most important thing in a car design is the aerodynamic and that is what the gls is all about if you look at them in profile, the escalade is juat a big box

Escalade any day for me between the two. I can only afford a GLC though.
I can only afford a brick though
So how is it? The one you bought?🥲🤣🤣🤣
Can you afford it to be in the repair shop for 40% of its life?
As a leather aficionado, the escalade platinum is all leather (no vinyl) and the leather on the seats is semi aniline. The GLS you have has a vinyl dash and door panels and "standard" leather on the seats. Both the escalade and the GLS come standard in their base trims with vinyls seats though. The GLS can get full leather interior, but it costs quite a bit more.
Probably the typically treated automotive leather, not vinyl. Vinyl is an artificial material that was fashionable in the 70s

Escalade wins; it's cool factor is unbeatable.
Until 6x6 Merc is coming
Cadillac is so nice - that’s the road trip vehicle!

My ML63, CL63, and S600 still turns heads. You nailed it.. Mercedes is the benchmark. I worked for GM and know ...
This Escalade looks better than the GLS. However, you're 100% right.

Get in a redesigned one. It’s nothing like the previous generation.
That 2021 Cadillac Escalade Looking incredible beautiful in that Rubin ❤️ color. 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
Then the prices wouldn’t match. We could also compare the Escalade to a rolls Royce cullinan. But that wouldn’t be fair either.
The GLS looks so small and tiny compared to the massive Escalade, even though i much prefer the navigator, i have to admit, the Cadillac Escalade looks amazing
The GLS looks like a toy car with that plastic looking grill.
ye should look a lot more premium for a GLS
I agree we own a new gls and we feel like they should of included the amg style Diamond grill to it
How does it look like plastic?
They're doing this because of the pedestrian safety standards they have to follow
@@cjmarsh504 I know but as other people stated, they would have made it look more premium, make it stand out as the flagship SUV
The new Escalade is amazing! Especially in that color. I agree that the GLS is just a big GLE and I would love a true S-Class SUV. And Escalade just has more presence. I’d love to see a review on the GLS 63!

"I need more room in here"...said no one ever about the previous gen Escalade.
The third row was not a fun place in the previous gen Escalade. That’s the big room difference plus the extra 8 inches of cargo space behind the third row. A lot of people have complained about those 2 things.

@@lambertus93 What was your experience between owning the two?

@JAWSDAKILLER i’m gonna go ahead and take your word for that
@JAWSDAKILLER i understand that the "Hot V" configuration helps a great deal in responsiveness and packaging, but its still going to have a more progressive build up of power when compared to a large naturally aspirated engine. Kudos to MB for making turbo lag as nonexistent as its ever been though
I dont think youve ever driven a TTV8.
@JAWSDAKILLER I don't doubt that it's smoother, but it's not BECAUSE they used turbos. They are just better at making their engines smooth. I would bet their old naturally aspirated engines are also smoother than the new Cadillac's.
@@NateDawg0007 incorrect.
Both reliability are terrible lol.
Not with the cylinder deactivation though, that technology kills the engine before 100000 miles
The Cadillacs antenna hat tho... is that like a car Fedora tip?
One is a behemoth and the other is a Mercedes
I’m buying the Escalade for it’s ride quality and driving experience. It still feels like a truck, but the smoothest and quietest truck-frame vehicle I’ve ever driven. I love how it has a genuine 4WD system similar to the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and can tow a remarkable amount of weight. The seats felt very, very cozy as well. The car in general fit me like a designer glove, tailored to fit me perfectly. I also like love high it sits, and how many people I can pack in.
2 years have passed, how has the experience been?

Personally, I would go with the Mercedes. The Escalade is just soooo much. It's a brick. It's just such a massive block of bigness. The Mercedes is sophisticated Leggo compared to the Jumbo Blocks that is the Cadillac.

I'm from the South, so bigger is better. Escalade has my vote!
They're both the big, flagship SUV's for their respective brands, but they're not competing for the same buyer. As a MB owner I'm biased, but for me, the Escalade and it's reputation is... garish. There's an old saying that applies to these two cars. Money talks; wealth whispers. The Cadillac is no whisperer.
Well, the mercedes gls is not exactly mercedes' flagship suv since there is a maybach version
But I do agree with your point
@@Khanaltai Morning. Very true. Segment flagship would have been a better description. The GLS Maybach (even the G wagon) are so far out of segment as to reveal the Escalade for what it is; a Suburban in a rented tuxedo.
