- Insulating a portion of the between the stringers center section of the bilge. This will let a large storage compartment double as an icebox if needed.
I sometimes think I’m going crazy because I’m constantly looking for my tools while I’m working. I feel your pain.
It is probably because you are very smart and you are always thinking two or three steps ahead. I don't know what my excuse is.

Barry, the 2 layers of pink foamular will work good. I've done this before on my sailboat. On a 5day race, everyone else was drinking warm beer on day 4 and we were grinding up frozen margaritas in the blender! 🍹

You want to use urethane foam comes in all different thicknesses 11/2" or 2" works best for coolers. Polyester resin works well with it. Can be shaped easily.

you can cut halfway through the foam with a boxcutter and snap it off. Works perfectly.

Thanks Kevin. The name Flex Seal doesn't really go with the word nautical, does it? I rationalized that the last coat of epoxy is what really sealed of the leak and the FS was just a little insurance. I am quite the accomplished rationalizer. Worse case and it gives me trouble, there is reasonable access to the water tank through the 6" floor plate.

Man this is awesome. Please post a video of deck and all when you complete! I need to figure out how this works, I assume you may have other videos leading up to this one? I am about to tear out and redo the deck in my 18' fiberglass boat. Your boat appears to be massive in the video! I do have questions/comments. Is this boat going to be a Center Console? Why did you put live well in the bow? It seems a long way to walk each time for bait and also, the bow "slap" may stir or beat your bait up? I noticed you didn't put a drain in your fish box. I assume you plan to pump it out but you will never be able to get it completely dry that way. I would consider a macerator pump either way for fish slime, scales etc! I'm very excited about finding this build so thanks for making the videos. What do you plan to do for the deck? Glassed over insulation like the lid for fish box. Structurally will that withstand folks walking on it etc? Seems like it would be super light and have sound proofing qualities? Or, do you plan to marine plywood and fiberglass?

I just wonder how the poly will hold up on top of epoxy. I know you can lay epoxy on just about anything, but not the other way around

Barry's rule ,"Never apply any coating, glue, or paint on top of a smooth glossy or uncured surface". I follow this rule, mixing chemistries, making sure the surfaces are naturally rough and clean and if not taking the time to make them that way. Many years and many many projects later, all is well.
And in this particular instance it really makes no difference if the polyester shell is bonded to the protective epoxy surface. The poly is protective shell, I could have used visqueen to protect the foam and the end result would have been the same.

Looks great! What kind of epoxy paint are you using? A lot of folks here in Hawai’i use poly iso foam sheets so you can use polyester resin... but it’s easier to get that pink insulation here so it’s cool to see you found a way to switch from epoxy to polyester resin. You’re not worried about any delamination between layers? Any extra thoughts would be appreciated 🙏

Our Coast Guard son was stationed at Barber's Point for 5 years so we have been lucky enough to visit Hawaii several times and to see many of the cool places that are not tourist traps, beautiful place! I have used lots of different brands of epoxy given to me by a friend who is an industrial coating contractor. They all have different properties so I always experiment first. Not sure which delamination you are asking about but in this application, no. There is no structural necessity for the foam to stick to the epoxy or epoxy to epoxy to foam. Also the joint between the the poly and the epoxy kind of unimportant. The Poly liner is like a bowl and it has nowhere to go, it technically could have been cast separately and set into place. In a true structural situation care and testing would be a good thing.

Resin doesn't like sharpy markers/felt pens as it contaminates the resin and can fracture on pen mark... It's better to use a pencil

Water in this compartment will be pumped overboard with a bilge pump. I didn't want fish funk water in the bilge where it would be difficult to completely remove.
