The Camcorder Conundrum: Panasonic HC-V770 vs. HC-V800

- I bought a Panasonic HC-V800 to replace my broken V770, and discovered that newer isn't always better. Some aspects of the V800 are improved, but in a few crucial ways, it's significantly worse. If you're looking at the V800, I strongly suggest you buy the V770 instead.

Interesting observations indeed
The v800 was surprisingly awesome
Thank you so much for comparison video.
just use an apple 15 iphone or dslr camera if you want something that can handle low light
Does this camera have infrared capabilities in night mode?
Not that I'm aware of.
Man!! You talk like an expert!! Thanx for this comparison, it's very helpful for me. I think it doesn't matter how old a camera is as long as it gives us great quality. I have recently purchased a professional Canon camera from over 10 years ago as the sensors in most modern cameras are just like those in smartphones, providing pale colors and capturing less detail in finer objects and textures. Early generations of sensors feel more organic and feel more like analog cameras.
Thanks for the comparison vid 👍. Did you happen to notice any improvements from the new lens? I found the sharpness towards the edges a little lacking (/ or simply soft) on the 770 (certainly compared to my old Sony SR11 at least). Availability of either 770 or 800 is poor right now over here so also eyeing the Sony AX43 perhaps or maybe the Sony RX0 II if it can actually record 1080p at 100/120fps continuously which I still have to find out.
4K is not interesting at 30fps max for me so no point in going for the VX11 if it performs the same as the V800 ...
I didn't notice a difference in the sharpness of the lenses at all. Both are more than adequate to get a good 1080p image. Even if the 800 had been sharper, I still would have recommended the 770 over it due to the contrast and grain issues.
I haven't used Sony camcorders since the mid-2000s, so I can't offer any info on their current offerings. I'd like to try one at some point and see how it compares to the Panasonic.
tnk you
Great review thank you! Forgot to mention I saw and add on eBay someone selling an CH-V785 and claiming it replaces the HC-V770. Ive looked all over for reviews but can't find any-I wondering if you had any info or did you look at that particular camcorder?
Very useful information about the difference between V770 and V800!
Thanks for this video! :)
You need the Panasonic 900 big sensor of low light. Try manual mode. Exposer or small shutter.
What is 900?
@@TheReelportall of these camcitrder are. the same nitch market but I prefer the hdr-sd 90 here, qoute=:
The X900 can definitely take better video of the two because it’s inbuilt technologies do more with extra light. The LEICA lens and a 16 mega pixel sensor and an improved Advanced 3MOS System and Hybrid I.O.S and 12x Optical Zoom all combine to create an awesome video capturing experience. The stabilisation has been noticeably upped and you can have intensive zoom and still receive a stable image. Auto focusing seems slightly quicker and before it was almost instant. Also fast moving objects are captured and focused on rather well, such as cars and people running. As I mentioned the Lens lets in more light but performance in low light situations doesn't look any different from the SD900. But outdoors the colours, contrast, the jet blacks are all notched up and picked up perfectly and create close to cinema quality like results.
The onboard microphone is the same as we saw in the SD900 and uses DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 and is crystal clear. Sound is recorded in a 360 degree perspective which does genuinely work rather well. When you play the audio back the zooming and overall camcorder noise operations are unfortunately partially heard when the audio is near to silent.
New is not always the best, still have some old Panasonic Hdc-sd900 3mos that are still great cams in 2022 ,even though i have modern Sony and Panasonic 4k camcorders I still love using the sd900 ,the hd 1080p is very good with its well balanced colours due to the 3mos sensor
I was literally, like LITERALLY looking for this video. God bless you brother !
Thank you for this video. I am researching Panasonic camcorders and was wondering why a more recent model loses features when compared to previous models in the same series.
What did you mean by brighten it up in post? @6:30
And do you still recommend this camcorder for the cost?
When editing videos, I usually adjust the brightness and contrast a bit - that's what I was referring to. I do still like the V770, but I haven't tested any other comparable camcorders since I made this video, so I can't say if it's the best one for the money or not.
i've been dying to find out, when you record at 1080 120fps, does it record audio? in slow mo?
Nope, it doesn't.
Good video! Very helpful
pls test otside while walking...
@michael Ramsey hi ive just purchased this. What software is best for cleaning up video images ? Thanks
I use Adobe Premiere Pro for all my editing. On most of my videos, I use the Lumetri color panel to bump up the contrast by 30% and the saturation by 10%, and then do further color correction to taste.
@@michaelramsey81 thank you for that. Do you know what the best settings would be for video recording a football match ?
@@matthewthompson8344 I don't, unfortunately. When I'm recording fast-moving stuff outdoors, I usually just leave it on auto settings.
Great comparison! Good job! 👍
Didn't Panasonic release an update for the V770 "Panasonic HC-V785 FHD Camcorder" from reading the specs it seems it's supposed to fix all of the weakness and be better than the V800
To be honest, I haven't kept up with the camcorder world since buying my second V770, but it would be awesome if they did that. I didn't see it when I was shopping, but that was a couple of years ago, so they might have done it since then.
@@michaelramsey81 Ahh it’s understandable I would be in the same boat. I just ordered the V785 yesterday, second hand for £265. I should be able to get my hands on it by this time next week. I’ll let you know how it is.
@@nextgenownage Sweet, I look forward to hearing about it. Maybe if it really is a major improvement, when my current V770 eventually dies, I'll get a V785 to replace it.
@@michaelramsey81 It could be! Lost hope it was worth my precious money
@@nextgenownageAny updates? :)
Thanks
getting one just for B and C roll
Great test and insight!
can you make a comparison with ful hd vs 4k
Neither of these cameras are capable of 4K, unfortunately. The 4K version of the V770 is called the VX870.
Eh u cant even see 4k anyway
Didn’t explain the difference between 770 and the new 770..??
To my knowledge, there is only one 770. The V770 and the V770K are the same thing. There is a newer 4K camera that looks very similar to the 770, but it's called the VX870K.
Hey Jack I think you mean the Panasonic HC-V785 which is an update for the V770
Can I use either of these camcorders to do live stream on zoom?
I'm not actually sure. I've never tried to live stream with mine.
@@michaelramsey81 oh ok np it does say v770 has live stream lol. Hows the wifi option?
@@kneepopper94 I've used it to control the camera from my phone, and it works OK. I don't use it much though.
I'm from India
Very Nice and professional video..Introduction and explanations are amazing.Thank you very much.
