Seeing you find things that are new and exciting to you is inspiring and great viewing, I would love for you to feel more freedom taking on the projects, tools, or themes that call out to you. It’s fun to learn and experience this together. :)
This is a great build. Nothing like sitting down and just... BUILDING something... without any actual plan or reason for it. Sometimes the best builds come out of just building and letting your mind run with it.
What I enjoy the most from your videos are your lack of fear to expose your inability to find a marketable idea. It's so refreshing to all of these hyper production bullshit videos we are constantly inundated with. I applaud your realism and the courage required to expose it. Keep being you, brother. It's really working for you.
You can find pillar like that for really cheap. Just search for wedding cake decorations plastic pillar. I have a bunch at home and their almost identical.
The beginning was so cinematic, I loved it. That looks like a really cool setting. Every once in a while, something makes me want to collect a new type of miniatures and something about this makes me want to have some figures from ancient mythology to play a game in a Hades-type setting.
You can get various 'pillars' from baking sections of craft stores (they use them with cakes). and, make friends with the store manager and ask to buy broken ones! They can sell them as damaged (heavily discounted) and so it is a win-win for all.
I love that you took a negative feeling n turned it into inspiration just by going through knick knacks n bits n bobs. Awesome start to some great scatter terrain!
Very nice. I am not used to doing this “ grab a pile of stuff and see what becomes”. Back in the day, I would read through a book and illustrate what I read... hence my career in storyboard work and concept design. Great work man. Carry on!
I worked in video game level design for 16 years, and I found that when I got in a creative slump I would end up stuck and I found the best method was to push past it and build something. It didn't have to be final or good, it just had to break out of what I had already built. Instead of seeking inspiration I would led inspiration find me.
Love it! I'll definitely have to keep this approach in mind the next time I've got a creative block. This is the kind of video that's not as useful (as everyone's bits box is different) right up until it's the most useful video in the world to get you crafting again; we need to hear things like this from time to time, so thank you! I'm glad you're excited about a project, especially one with such a fun vibe! I recently did a piece going wild on how many different natural elements it contained and have been wondering how to do something similar for manmade terrain, so I look forward to seeing how you tackle this as a larger project! It looks so much more "real" than just a skull on a pillar because of all the debris.
That's wonderful. It made me think of a couple of things: The rather 'Un-Hell like' Hell dimension (not many burning pits, but metallic mountains, wormholes, and piles of war scrap here and there, the odd band of dwarves, and policemen in an ice-cream van) from thriller writer John Connolly's 'Samuel Johnson' trilogy of books, and horrid things seen from a distance in vast underground cities, viewed by semi-mad explorers, in some of the stories by H.P. Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, Robert E. Howard, and Frank Belknap Long. I love those columns, by the way. I had similar ones bought from an aquarium shop, which were meant to be put in a fish tank.
You have a great eye for composition. I could see the story in the piece. I really like working with found objects. The "limitation" is so often the spark for creation.
Really enjoyed the energy in this one. I think a lot of creatives suffered last year with burnout and the ‘need’ or pressure to produce even more content than normal, and this felt like a reminder to give yourself permission just to mess around a bit more and in the process unlock something really cool. Happy new year to you and yours, and I can’t wait to see what inspiration you share with us all!
Yeah, the same "Torment? Like in Planescape Torment?" Plus the circular thingy atop the skull, is kinda reminiscent of the Lady of Pain outer mask/head
@@imrail1 I was thinking of a scenario where I'd see this, and sort of thought that the "thingy atop" was the last vestige of a long-dead god's power. A barely-glowing halo amidst an endless sea of darkness, flickering and dwindling down to a dull, tarnished, crest as the last priest of a long-forgotten sect takes in a ragged breath. Far away, across the endless bounds of the Ethereal, the slow, final, exhalation of a priest draws to an end. The halo dims, and all becomes darker. Darker... Darker... Forgotten.
This is a fantastic piece! Sometimes, it just really pays off to just take what you have and try something new! I can't wait to see the rest of the set!
Great job overcoming your creative slump. This past year has really burned out a lot of people and their projects. I hope you have fun with your hellscape. It is fun and entertaining to watch your creative process.

And that is how all great games start with a simple idea. As for my Universal TT wargame/RPG I've been working on the past 3 years it all started with me rolling dice and moving models around on Roll 20.
I love working with those skulls. Because they're so cheap its been easy to take risks and get pretty experimental with them in my own projects. Glad to see you're back into the swing of things. Hope 2021 is a great year for Black Magic Craft
Happy new year! What an awesome and inspiring start, too. And not just the cool new build series you started here, but the whole "I was feeling uninspired but I decided to do something new" is probably something I should try doing, too. I can't wait to see the next video!

i LIKE the look of this! i think about "where is the rest of the body for that skull?" is it still standing there, headless? like an ancient egyptian statue? who knows?
I had the same issue with a casting silicone that had started to set a few years back and decided, lets try this: i sprayed a bunch of silicone spray lube (the stuff you get at the hardware store) into it and mixed it around. This thinned it so i could then mix the two parts together and get useable mold. Not sure if it works for all kinds of silicone but since silicone spray lube is pretty cheap and casting silicone is expensive it can be worth a shot. The build turned out great!

Had a lot of trouble getting back into my art after the holidays as well, I think just another effect of the constant stresses of the year really, keep up the good work though, been looking forward to this vid for a long time!
Regarding your intro, about not being sure what reason to do a build on, I always find the videos where you're making for yourself to be the best ones :) so make for yourself, and let just let the passion flow through you.
The version of hell you are trying to evoke sounds a lot like Malodomini from DnD lore to me. Creating this version of hell has been at the top of my tabletop bucket list for sure.
Sorry to hear you were having a creative slump. Honestly, I like when you do no plan build videos, because they all but always end up being a bit of each of those things you were worried about focusing on anyway or leading into them as you find a theme or process. You try new painting methods, talk about places you got your materials that viewers can check out (I spy that upcoming instagram to follow amid the comments), and usually come up with cool pieces that might not be ones I'd use but are really engaging to watch. That said I mostly watch these for entertainment, so several grains of salt should be applied to anything I'm dishing out. This piece feels very Shadowfell meets Avernus, or something that you'd see in a gothic style action-y movie hellscape like Constantine or Hellboy. I like the feel a lot and I think anyone would be excited to come to a table that incorporated a piece that gave so much extra visual flavor to the game. There's a lot of promise with the final look, and I can't wait to see the rest of the set.
Man this was a dope little project. I think making scatter terrain may get me back into wanting to DM just use the stuff I plan on making once my area gets set up again
Suggestion for a name for this 'creepy gray hell' look could be 'Memento Mori', after the aesthetic in renaissance paintings which would constantly remind viewers 'You will die some day'

Good news. This is part 1 of at least a 3 part series......and will be the next vids.
This piece would also look awesome in a scenario of sunken city. Pretty cool!
You can get columns like this in the cake decorating dept.
I would love to see all of the videos of you making this set, I cant wait!
Had a lot of trouble getting back into my art after the holidays as well, I think just another effect of the constant stresses of the year really, keep up the good work though, been looking forward to this vid for a long time!
This was great. Really enjoyed the trial and error + the motivation to get out my bits bin.
You def hit that renaissance depicition of hell look! Creepy and scary without fountains of blood.
Hell doesn’t have to look like a burnt cheese pizza 🤣
That halo above the skull is my favorite part, it looks awesome
Woooo! Excited to see you build whatever you want to build!
Now I REALLY wanna try "Dante's Inferno". You definitely must creat more hellish and doomed dioramas. You're so good with this kind of ambiences.
YES! Love your vids! thank you for the inspriation!
I don't do YT but twitch and IG
Thank you so much!
Can’t wait to see a bunch of pieces like this!
This video was pretty timed perfectly, I was out of project ideas
Scatter will be great - you NEED to make some ruins that match the aesthetic, like a fallen temple or a shattered palace.
Awesome build! Definitely want to see more of this.
Awesome piece! Looking forward to further parts. Well done!
Man this was a dope little project. I think making scatter terrain may get me back into wanting to DM just use the stuff I plan on making once my area gets set up again
Suggestion for a name for this 'creepy gray hell' look could be 'Memento Mori', after the aesthetic in renaissance paintings which would constantly remind viewers 'You will die some day'
Great build again! You've inspired me to start building my own terrain as well, thank you!
