Captain, as always, a very informative and enjoyable segment. You grabbed some excellent selections. Once you have had an opportunity to listen to those that still remain in the shrink, please share your thoughts with us. I was able to land 3 Record Store recordings. They are, Mal Waldron/Steve Lacy, Bill Evans and the Shelly Manne. Happy listening!

Thanks Tony - I’d had taken the Mal Waldron too, but it wasn’t there.
Looking forward to listen to them when I get back home later in the week 😊

I love that Bill Evans repressing. I haven't been able to find an original so I'm going to purchase this one at some point too. That Cannonball is amazing too! They are all solid albums.

      Thanks for your comment 🙂
It is a great BE-reissue: Great sounding, flat, noise-free etc. - one can buy this with confidence. The interplay between the 3 musicians is good - though it's even better at "Sunday at the Village Vanguard" (and the others w. Scott LaFaro).
The Cannonball albums are great too. With Miles at "Kind of Blue", Cannonball is the calm and "polite" sax-player - compared to Coltrane. But here (app. 10 years later) his playing is in some places more "wild" - but not over the edge though.
      Good luck collecting 👍

I picked up the Bill Evans at the sale. Great sound and I like his intimacy in his playing.

I have that Dexter Gordon LP, and i really enjoy it. Been listening to his 7 LP Radioland / Steeplechase recordings and i love them.

Good to hear - I'm still not back in my music room.... But tomorrow 😀
I have a few of the "Dexter in Radioland" records and like them too. I'll look for the rest - the Danish Broadcasting Company (who recorded them) normally knew what they were doing.
      Thanks for your comment 👍

We have similar interests, I got the Cannonball Adderly, and the Bill Evan too. 🙂. I hope you will review them on your channel.

read an interview where jack Sheldon said , that, after he got through playing in the tonight show band on TV, would go pick up Chet baker, when he was in town, and was always broke because he was a junkie, and then they would cruise the various California beach towns , who all had a jazz club on Main Street back then, ask to sit in with the band, and use that as a way to pick up woman.

      Great story !
I guess that it was both hard and at the same time full of possibilities to be a (jazz) musician back in the days.
Read in "Time Remembered" (by Bill Evans' last drummer Joe LaBarbera) that towards the end, Evans had got alle three musicians payment in advance (to pay for his heavy cocaine misuse), so when they asked the club for payment after the show, they didn't get any...

I’m not a fan of single albums released on two 45RPM records. Though I don’t listen to Jazz much any more I did enjoy your video.

      Thanks Richie.
Agree with you (and Mazzy) on the 2 x 45 rpm matter - but others seem to love the (often) minor acoustic advantage and accept that the original flow is broken up (Melinda, Chat Kassem and others).
I enjoy your channel and your no-nonsens approach (though I might not dig the sometimes rather loud back ground music so much 😉)
