Sandhill Crane Nest - One Day After First Colt Hatches

- Egads! Yesterday I was able to video the first egg hatching from a Sandhill Crane Nest. Overnight .45 inches of rain fell, then it rained/sleeted/snowed throughout the area today adding another .88 inches. To add misery, the air temperature dropped to 34F degrees during the heavy precip. event. This was a tough day for the Sandhill Cranes. Not only did they have to contend with unseasonably cold temperatures, they had to deal with rising flood waters. As you can see in these two segments, the waters continued to rise throughout the day. The second egg has a pip in it, but has yet to hatch. Will the nest survive the night? Hard to know for sure.

This is what we should be using internet for, I think that the way the big bird juggles the chick and egg, so funny when she puts baby flat on its back then lies down on egg and chick, thanks for bringing this to Scotland, one amused-and amazed at same time 💕
I can't believe no one else is commented on that Crane's parenting! Between 0:40 and 0:41 that mom (or dad) steps on the baby's neck and keeps her foot like that for almost 10 seconds before lifting it whereupon the young Crane leaps up with so much force it flops on its back and mom (or dad as it may be) plunks down on top of the bellied up little Crane without giving it a chance to right itself! Finally finally at 5:05 the parent bird manages to settle down so the egg is directly underneath her body and the baby is tucked under her wing and stays like that so must have sensed the arrangement was now proper. Glad baby didn't die in the process!
It‘s called survival. The earlier you understand this, the better.
There’s no one like a mother!!
Stunningly beautiful and thank you for sharing.
What a beautiful story and shot brilliantly, thanks for sharing, Alan🙌
Absolutely beautiful. Such gorgeous creatures. Lovely video.
Lovely ! and I feel something special deep meaning of " the LiFE" !
Beautiful video, I enjoyed watching very much.
The Best part of living in Florida was seeing Cranes in my quiet little neignborbood: they were so so so Peaceful and Wonderful.
I wonder how this mother crane manage to build a nest and especially hatch her eggs in this wet like nest.
But ofcourse I'm amazed with this
u think it is wet. to her, it is normal.
Same. I also asking for this same issue. How could an egg hatch in the wet nest. And I also look that the mother feather is wet. What an amazing
@@AdeAminFirmansyah yah I agree into that, but well that's nature, every animals that live now is highly adapted in their respective ecosystems. I guess I could say that.
@@revertedakhi Yas. Agree with you.
@@AdeAminFirmansyah it is wet but the decomposing leaves gives off heat to warm the eggs
BEAUTIFUL WORK
Thanks for the nice video. Fall in love.

What a video...thanks for present
Beautiful video! I just moved to Central Florida and we have a family of Sandhill Cranes that come to my yard everyday! I'm curious to know what you used to capture this? It's very high quality!
What a stupid mother bird. She stepped her digit on the neck of the chick.
What a dedicated Mama!
Great true
Mother knows best.
Thanks for the educational video.
Making room for the egg sibling and the baby. I'm glad the parent hasn't abandoned the other egg, yet. They often do that and having 1 baby a year is hard to maintain their population in the long run.
Amazing, how the mother hatch her eggs around the wet and cold area?
I needed to see the second egg being hatched
Beautiful, thanks for sharing. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I wonder how the eggs hatch in awet cold environment the crane must be producing alot of warmth
It was SO funny when mama put baby on top of the egg. As if to say, “I can’t get it to hatch. Why don’t you give it a try?” 😂
Hipl
😅
Good scenary ,very beautiful.
Good photography.
One of the best video I have ever seen
Wow.amazing fottage
Good job
Con cò con de thương quá
Wow. Wonderful. Thank your video.
For such a large heavy bird, you'd think they would build their nests on dry land! Wikipedia - The average weight of the larger males is 4.57 kg (10.1 lb), while the average weight of females is 4.02 kg (8.9 lb), with a range of 2.7 to 6.7 kg (6.0 to 14.8 lb) across the subspecies. Sandhill cranes have red foreheads, white cheeks and long, dark, pointed bills.
Ana gibi yar olmaz diyen ne güzel söylemiş. Nasıl da sevgi ve şefkatle bakıyor ve davranıyor. Çok mükemmel. Ellerinize sağlık.

Its Amazing video..
Thanks u
Wonder why their chicks are called Colts?! Nothing wrong with that but I’ve never heard of that before!! Very cute!!
Lovely. Unbelievable a nest in the middle of water how would it keep the eggs warm😲😲😲😲❤💓
her nest is close to water because food and moisture.eggs need that during incubation periods plus she don't move until there hatched.
With its butt!
This is Beautifull
Loving Mother ❤
Amazing video
В итоге, вылупился второй птенец?
Isn't it a bit dangerous to have a nest in the middle of a swamp where every single thing that lives there can reach you?
Actually, this is the best place to build even though floods can be a problem.
So beautiful Alan - where did you record this? How did you get the camera close?
Very nice
Nice video
Lovely baby Crane

Amazing video my friend,

Wonderfully well shot video! I don't know much about cranes, but that seems a VERY risky place to build a nest, with newborn chicks tumbling around the way they do it must result in chicks rolling off the nest into the water. Are crane chicks able to swim right after birth like ducklings and cygnets are?
Yes. They can swim right after hatching although it takes them a few hours to gain enough strength to do much of anything.
@@daycreek That's good, thank you. I was afraid I found a bird who'se chick survival rate is governed by drowning rather then predator snatching!
Sand Hill cranes are generally passive, but if you mess with their offspring they can ram their beaks right through your skull.
Przepiekna scena.
God bless🙏🙏❤
This called mother love, and it is best love in the world.
It is instinct, feeling start in mammal, in the brain is limbic system
@@Brancaalice Still, it's motherly caretaking.

Mother very nice for child
Que hermoso es la creación
it looks like the nest is wet and the bird is not very difficult to hatch this egg
Usaha yg luar biasa...insting keibuan.
awww when the chick went over on its back 😁
Omg! what a place to be born and mom stepping on your neck😳
How are these eggs incubated so close to water?
Yea I feel bad for the chick but they can handle it. Takes more force than mamas feet to break its neck or injure it
How did they live longer than a day? With mom stepping on them all the time. Not sure if 2nd on makes it ...🤧
Nice
Wow amazing
Hadir, duh kasihan bertelur di tengah air. Apa memang kebiasaan burung bertelor sepert itu?
سبحان الله رب العالمين
What happened to this bird! He doesn't seem to understand wet!
love u mother
Cute bird
Sandhills are huge and loud. Especially when they fly right over your head.

Wow....v nice..😍♥♥♥♥♥♥
The way camera man record this is the same way Aliens 👽does to study human being in secret
Aliens have stopped studying human lone time ago because humans are filthy barbarians with no morals!. It's waste of their limitless time.
just found a sandhill nesting in my cattails, thought it was too wet for a nest, guess not
Hello good I like 🙏👉🔔💕💕😀😀🤝thanks
So sandhills have wet shallow nest huh
Straight up stepped on that little dude, and what would happen if the chicks fell in the water whilst the mother was hunting?
Instabil acest cuib pe apa dar asa este mediul unde cresc puii pasarile fac asta din totdeauna si stiu ce au de facut😊❤❤
i like it.
A baby sandhill is called a colt? I get that "chick" might be too generic & they will eventually have long colt legs, but it seems like a big name for a yellow ball.
I love madr
nice❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
