An exceptional reunion of this guitar trio for the occasion. A real treat! Featuring the indefatigable Al Di Meola, whose performance in last year's Festival was acclaimed by a crowd gone wild, Biréli Lagrène, the young Frenchman revealed by the Festival in 1985, will contribute his gypsy qualifications. They will be joined by yet another musician graced with magic fingers, Larry Coryell, who played in last year's Festival. Three guitars, three remarkabie virtuosos, three major musicians on the international scene.

I had the privilege to personally know him in the concert in the Castell de Belver - Mallorca (Spain) 1985, along with two guitar Spanish monsters like Joan BIbiloni and Tito Alcedo. Great concert, great music and a great and sympathetic person. All my regards to him.
I had a chance to see him performing and was lucky to talk to him. RIP Larry.

I was listening to Weird al, thenToto, Lee Ritenour, Al d-Meola, and ended up here, there is no where else to go after this, Anywhere else is down.
Bireli has got to be on the very short list of greatest unsung musicians in history.
He has my vote for best guitarist alive. Too bad Rolling Stone is unaware.
Bireli is the best and I love that he is such a risk taker. Al relies on the same old licks even though I love him too.
There's nothing unsung about Bireli's musical qualities, he is highly regarded and recognized as being a completely unique guitar wizard.

I have been listening to the great Larry...for 2 days(After I had known he had suddenly passed away...what a shame!!.) I rediscovered this great performance...SUPER!!
At the moment I am really enjoying one of his most recent work..whose title is THE LIFT...incredible..have a listen if you can...

I talked with Larry at NAMM in Los Angeles after I heard him play. What a great time to remember.

Don't get me wrong I really like Al and Larry as composers, but Bireli is beyond question a better player. Fight me.
his level of improvisation is out of this world, the only other one with this kind of mastery is allan holdsworth.
Certainly all great players, but outstanding in terms of musicality without any doubt is Mr. Lagrene!

Ovation mostly owed their fame to being more or less the first of the type. They are terrible to sit with and they really sound unguitaristic. Have nice fretboards and comfortable low access though.
Bireli's solo at 44:50 is so full of great ideas.
All of his solos are full of wonderful ideas. It's truly mind boggling.

So cool to see these three together. Larry was originally in the McLaughlin/Paco/Al trio before Al stepped in. And Bireli plays on Larry’s “Spaces Revisited” instead of McLaughlin (who was on Larry’s original “Spaces”)... so many connections.

I've never see these three together but had the great fortune to see Al 2nd row in a setting of about 125 people. It was such a magnificent time. I found the show by accident.

I miss my Ovation guitar! Bought it around 1985. It was a Legend Glen Campbell model., non cutaway. Never had to hydrate it either!!!

Ahhh, when Ovation guitars were KING. My how times have changed since they were recently sold off to DW and outsourced to Asian production companies. I still have two of them, a 6 and a 12-string. Nice sound.

What an astounding ensemble!
Although Al Di meola is kinda being showcased here (mostly flamenco take -offs of his earlier work including some return to forever stuff) they all are great musicians to be sure ! R.I.P. Larry. Despite the ovation guitars used I think it sounds great !!! What a production! So beautifully synchronized for the three of them, a lot of work went into this. They are seamlessly groving together...
Yeah Di Meola was showcased, but he had to show off his new hair weave.
Quel talent !!! Il faut même avoir déjà un bon niveau à la guitare pour se rendre compte à quel point ces mecs atteignent un niveau technique et un feeling vraiment exceptionnel !!
J'espere que c'est vrai, parce que j'ai bcp pratique et joue moi meme et je n'acheve pas ce qu'ils font, meme que j'ai copie les licks de coryell et son collaborateur Phillip Christian avec qui eil avait fait deux albums annees 70s, don't deux pieces Django, Nuages et My Serenade. Coryell a signe mes copies des deux que je les lui ai presentes ici a Portland apres un concert, annee 2012 je crois, il etait surpris que quelq'un les aurait. Je l'a dit que j'avais vole ces chops pour jouer sur une cd d'une amie francaise chanteuse/ecrivain.

it's the sound of thoses guitars "ovation "with a kind of "poly holow bowl" give that sound.......but thoses people play with modes and cross frontie from Spain to Django jive and modern jazz ! and they do !

Had the pleasure of meeting Chris when i was in high school such a great guy and a incredible guitarist he played in a little restaurant by himself with a little backing track thing he had.al was my favorite guitar player at the time so when I asked him to play Mediterranean Sundance he kinda laughed then goes on to tell me he was al's guitar player i was blown away to say the least
