That's a Brazilian berimbau in the beginning and other sections of the song with that repeating pattern. You don't hear them used often. It has a cool percussive sound though.
I heard a lot of Flim and the BBs influence in the piano solo part...all of them are just SICK players, totally at one with their respective instruments. The middle section, Jonah took it to orchestral infinity with his upward progression, just nuts. Henrik laying down some beastly groove on fretless...tone for days...and Aron is like a freaking atomic clock! These guys are the penultimate "music for musicians" band!
This is pure magic...amazing! Musicians in a league of their own. I LOVE the Brazilian berimbau playing through the greater part of the song. Thanks for your reaction!
People are probably going to recommend their newer stuff like these last two you've done, but I hope you can react to their crazy jazz fusion-y covers of pop songs, that's how Dirty Loops got their start! Also, their original song "Hit Me" is a must! Covers to check out: Dirty Loops - Baby (Justin Bieber cover) Dirty Loops - Rolling In The Deep (Adele cover) Dirty Loops - Circus (Britney Spears cover) Dirty Loops - Prude Girl (Rihanna - Rude Boy cover) Dirty Loops - Ta Fête (Stromae cover) Dirty Loops - Forever Young (Alphaville cover) Dirty Loops - Wake Me Up (Avicii cover)
This! I might like the Cory Wong stuff better if it weren't pushing reactors' attention away from the music that originally got me hooked on them. It's super underrated but I also love "It Hurts."
This song is almost heart attack material 🤣 Thanks for posting this reaction man 👍 Someone mentioned checking out their earlier covers, and they’re all dope! But since you’ve mentioned Vulfpeck coming up next, spare a minute for Dirty Loops and Cory Wong’s collaboration tracks “Follow the Light” and “Turbo” (an instrumental). I get the feeling you would enjoy both of them ☺️ 👍🙏👍
Hell yee, ive added all the covers to the list. I just saw i didn't have the Turbo one, so i added that too... maan.... the "list".... is ENORMOUS! :D We have so much to go through :D
Can you please react to Matt Corby "All Fired Up"? he plays the piano so good and is such a virtuoso. Almost like a musical Savant. Also "Made of Stone" by him is also a gorgeous song on the piano by him. I cannot recommend him enough.
This was my first video from you and as you're titling yourself as "jazz pianist" I was probably expecting something. I mean, even with the nic "Stank Face" I kinda thought you might have something to say rather than just having some kind of "stank face" going on lol. Continue.
Lol I get what you mean, I'll be doing more in-depth analyses to this stuff, like eventually come back you know cuz I don't have my piano... I had to sell it years ago due to some unforeseen circumstances. But when I get a new one we'd be playing that s**t so hard :D
I'm curious if you like metal, particularly jazzy prog metal. You mentioned Dream Theater in an earlier video, so I'm gonna assume yes... in which case... Polyphia - Playing God is right up your alley I think. Also Ukrainian prog/groove metal band Jinjer has a lot of jazz and reggae influence. The usual starting track, which is pretty jazzy, is Pisces (Live Studio Session). In case you're not familiar, I won't ruin the surprise, but prepare to have your mind blown if you check it out.
The ghost of Lyle Mays all over that keys solo!
Big time! He’s got at least two other synth solos that are direct nods to Lyle, with the synth patch being in obvious tribute. ❤️
I thought the same when I firts listen to this. Lyle sound is here

Henrik has to be one of the best Bass players on the planet. The man is top tier, world class talent.
The instrument "clocking" the music is a berimbau, which, from the looks of it, has African origins.

Some piano lines are very reminiscent of Chick Corea too...
Loved watching your reaction. This and Follow the Light are my favorite Dirty Loops songs...
Follow the light is on the list! I'll do a reaction on it soon.

Thank you very much!

Totally agree. Because that also gives some contexts why they are where they are now.
And the fact that they are doing this live as well. Pure art.

Ta fête är fete👍
Circus is one of my favorites too!
You got it peeps! Im adding these jewels to the list. Im curious to hear the Baby one from JB :D
Love ya Stank! Excited for your intro into the VULF-verse
Yesss!! Vulfpeck and thier sub projects are all something special
2:38 when the jazz pianist hears the chord progression
Lovely to see you being Loopyfied. Thank you for liking my favorite band ❤️💯❤️

Yeah, I thought the same thing. Makes perfect sense when doing both Dirty Loops and Vulfpeck reactions. ^^

@@imstankface I am thoroughly looking forward to that. 😁
It's a masterpiece! ❤🔥
A lot of secondary dominants in that progression going into the piano solo. Sick lead in.
Check out Coffee Break. Jonah put it out while they were still “broken up” and it slaps
Yes….
‘Coffee Break’ slaps, especially for all the keys, horns and jazz lovers out there….
Na, it slaps for anyone 😉😊👍

If you like Vulfpek you should check out Cory Wong's collabs with Dirty Loops!
YOU GOT IT!

… and then there is the little fire piano solo by Dream Theatre’s Jordan Rudess in Jonah’s version of ‘Bad’ 🔥
You should check out the band Polyphia if you haven't already. Specifically their song "Playing God".
You got it!
