Dawn of magic 2 is the same as dawn of magic 1, but with all addons. Time of shadows is one such addon. And you've started story of the add-on, it seems.
Can't believe I'm not subbed! Have subbed! My life is now good. Don't stop playing these classic and underrated games. You are giving us non AAA title chasers something to relate to!
Holy shit, I had been a HUGE fan of Wolfhound book series since I was a teenager and there is a game based on it?! I was certain the book series only got a (bad) movie adaptation. Thanks for finding Requital and reviewing it, it completely flew under my radar. I am SO playing it this weekend.
Keep it up. For me exploring old and forgetten games is like a history trip, sometimes I like to dig in and search some old ass games nobody knows about and see how it was done and how it plays. To a certain extent it's like a archeology , a gaming archeology :D

Requital is based on a Russian fantasy film called Wolfhound, and its actually a pretty good time of a movie. Thanks to Ross of Ross' Game Dungeon for that little tidbit, as well as his full coverage of the game. Edit: Also, if you can get it still maybe play Arkadian Warriors for the series. It is an old Xbox Live Arcade game that I bought for some reason that I can't even remember or justify.
Ooh, Arkadian Warriors and the XBLA era is probably a goldmine of weird lil' games if he can find 'em. I remember stuff like Bloodforge now too, or RAW: Realms of Ancient War.... man, there's gotta be loads of obscure & forgotten games on those early digital downloadable services now that you mentioned Arkadian Warriors. It has been a while that I have played through Dawn of Magic 2, so I might be off on some of the details, but I don't remember anything that it does better than the original. There are some unique visuals in some kind of parallel dimension I think and the presentation is done a bit differently, but mostly it's just missing certain things and it's just generally much smaller. I remember playing the demo of the first one. Have always wanted to play it again so i am a bit sad that it isnt to be found anywhere. Here's to hoping thats gog makes it happen some way, some how, one day.
Some more suggestions for future vidoes: Arboria, Hellpoint, Ashen, LotR: War in the North, Avencast: Rise of the Mage, Warhammer: Chaosbane, Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone, Furi, Omensight, Ember, Necropolis, Evil Islands, How to Survive 1+2, Gauntlet: Slayer Edition, DeathSpank, Xanadu Next, Killsquad, Nobody Saves the World, Chronicon, Children of Morta, Shadow of Rome, Gladius, Prince of Qin, Seal of Evil, Throne of Darkness, Soulbringer, Revenant, Darkstone, Hammerwatch, Moonlighter, The Fall: Last Days of Gaia Planet Alcatraz, Legend: Hand of God, Chaos Legion, Space Siege, Space Hack, Restricted Area, Greed: Black Border, Krater: Shadows over Solside, Harbinger Vendetta: Curse of Raven's Cry, Shade: Wrath of Angels, The Chosen: Well of Souls, Gorasul: The Legacy of the Dragon, Legends of Dawn Sands of Salzaar, Pascal's Wager DE, Gujian 3, Xuan-Yuan Sword VII and Sword and Fairy 7.
I recommend Restricted Area of 2004. This is isometric action rpg, you can replace your arms and legs with implants. I still remember, there were many bugs, it was impossible to pass
I suggest not installing the last patch (on german version), as it did cause freezes while interacting with the inventory. But yeah, it's worth a look.
I remember playing knights of the temple around the time of its release i think it was part of some gaming magazine on a CD :D I remember being amazed with the combat system and animations for its time
Silverfall is a forgotten RPG that comes to mind. I cant remember much about it other than it was and enjoyable enough hack and slash at the time, back in 2007
Crazy! Somehow a Hidden Gems or Trash where I hadn't heard of most of the games! That said, I feel like KotT: Infernal Crusade would have been a game I would have been all over back then so I'm not sure how I missed it. Granted, 2004 was a crazy time and advertising and such wasn't quite the same. I remember the Beowulf game, though I'm pretty sure I never finished it. Love you doing these videos. I'm relatively new but have you done one of these on The Precursers? I would be interested in that for sure. It was always a fascinating game for me. Again, great vid, thank you so much for your content!
Thanks! Yea, I somehow missed Knights if the Temple as well. Never heard of it before, until someone suggested it the comments. Never heard of Precurses, I'll check it out.
That's actually a good idea for a video. I would have to sit and think about it. 🤔 It's crazy, because when the next episode comes out, that would be 50 games covered.
This is maybe the First episode where I hadn't played any game proposed. But I can suggest that Knigths of the Temple had a sequel, which is very different from the previous one.
Love this series. There's so many great & obscure games to cover that are so forgotten now, and its always fascinating to hear your perspective on them. I just enjoy discovering a bunch of titles here, because they're all unfamiliar with me except for Requital thanks to Ross' Game Dungeon, but it's not like I played it. Very cool episode! I wasn't even gonna recommend anything this time and would've just enjoyed the vid and left a comment.... but I made the mistake of reading a few comments and now it jogged some memories loose, so I better write down some of these game titles I'd like to suggest for your list before I forget them, lol. This is pretty console-heavy though, so best fire up the emulators if you would like to check out: The Champions of Norrath series (PS2) Untold Legends 1 & 2 (PSP) Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom (PS3) Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony (PSP *_exclusive_* - no one EVER talks about this when doing a retrospective on the series. Can't think of a better indication that a game is forgotten than that!) Bloodforge (XBLA) RAW: Realms of Ancient War (XBLA) Crimson Alliance (XBLA) Pirates: Legend of the Black Buccaneer (PS2)
This series is amazing, has anyone recommended the Sea Dogs series to you? Pirate RPGs that I downloaded when I was obsessed with Black Flag and just looking for other good pirate games. They seem pretty dense and I didn't play much...I remember getting into the first port, learning there were prostitutes, doing some looting to sell enough to hire one. It was the classic "fade to black, hear a few suggestive comments, and fade back into view" affair
Oh, and Requittal, like Hard to be a god, is based on a fantasy novel series called Wolfhound. On a movie adaptation of the said series, to be precise.
Requital is based on the fantasy series "Wolfhound" by writer Marina Semenova and the film. there is a lot of Slavic mythology in it. the game was released simultaneously with the film Wolfhound and in some places repeats its plot. My Recommendation: Champions: Return to Arms. It was the favorite Arpg of my childhood and it even had Splitscreen Coop so me and my lil brother spend a lot of time playing this game.
Borderzone looks like Gothic with isometric control scheme. Dawn of Magic series have messed up naming. Originally, there were two games: Магия Крови (Blood Magic) and the standalone expansion: Магия Крови: Время Теней (Blood Magic: Time of Shadows). First game was released internationally as Dawn of Magic, but the expansion was called Dawn of Magic 2 in Europe and Time of Shadows in USA.
Well, you should try to find Evil Islands: Curse of the Lost Soul / "Проклятые земли" (2000/2001). This RPG offered kinda unique gameplay centered around stealth and backstabbing enemies. BTW great like for Knights of the Temple, this one left good memories.
Awesome video, as always! Here is a suggestion: Undungeon. Seems like a blend of Diablo-style ARPG and classic CRPG, with the setting like Planescape Torment but more sci fi-looking. I am playing it now and gotta say, i like what i am seeing so far despite the jank.
For what i know, to run Dawn of Magic you need to remove the starforce protection using the SFREMOVE utility. I haven't tried it, i don't know if it works, it's just what i read.
Awesome vid, I remember playing Beowulf back in the day and my mates and I were entertained by it, whilst also being very drunk haha. You got to try Drakan: Order of the Flame bro, also Harbinger and Overlord, and a very obscure one called Space Hack. Cheers!
Dawn of Magic worked for me on Win 8.1 and it still works on Win 10. The Antivir seems to occasionally want to put the exe into quarantine and the last time it didn't work for me I eventually realized that a .dll-file wasn't there anymore. I still need to try a few times before it starts up usually, but otherwise I didn't have too much trouble with it. From what I remember it doesn't like certain compatibility settings though.
Dawn of Magic 2 does not have a “hold this button to stand still” but does it have an option to change the button for movement? I have found that in such cases, you can keybind “move” to like space. Then hold space and your character will follow your cursor around. Release it to stay still.
I am not really big into ARPG's yet you mentioned there are some where you care for the Story, i'd really like to dabble into some. Maybe you could make a video on your favorite ARPG's? I am also open to suggestions in the comments yall
Why the hell is Argentinian writer/poet Luis Borges a character in Dawn of Magic 2? :p Anyway, great stuff as usual, we're really getting into the good shit now!
i remember KotT. ragequit it at some point, but i cant remember why. waaay too long ago hell that was back when i was 17... ish i actually also played shadows: awakening (and shadows: heretic kingdoms) and bards tale from previous videos (and rune, but only the classic version, not rune 2). try arx fatalis, die by the sword, vampire the masquerade redemption, sword and sworcery, hell maybe even dark age of camelot (i think a new community shard was supposed to go live this year). id be interested what you think, but im not familiar which one of those counts as obscure or forgotten. my gaming circle is very small and we have known eachother for more than 20 years, so... outward should count as obscure, i guess (even though its kinda new-ish). a real gem imo
I got Borderzone a few months back on a discount (GOG). Good to know I can probably skip that one and it be okay. I'd recommend Ember for a future video!
IIRC some old games got such long loading times when V-sync is activated. No idea why. BorderZone was one of those fantasy + sci-fi RPGs that used to be a thing years ago, with Hard to be a God, Wizardry 6-8 and Might&Magic RPGs. Speaking of old and forgotten - Etrom show up on Steam in new version, sort of. You can try demo at least.
i remember having KoT on the gamecube and being stuck in the clock puzzle. it's not even like i didnt understand it it just didnt want to let me progress lol
The funny thing is Borderzone has some design decisions stolen from Gothic 1 and also it's a mix of sci-fi post apocalypse and fantasy even before the ELEX series.
OK let's propose something more recent for your relief. Chronos before the ashes, Anima Reign of Darkness and Ashen. Also Immortal Unchained (not your favorite genre I guess) and Iesabel as an oddball (just for the lols xD)
Great video as always, man! I'll comment once again if you could play/try Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader. I'm kinda biased because it was one of my first games ever and I loved it in my teenage years so I would like your unbiased opinion about it!
wow, I played borderzone around 2008 and completely forgot the name of the game. I had it on one of those bootleg 10in1 dvds. Always were curious if the game was trash or I was stupid
I dont know if this counts as a Hidden gem but have u ever played Champions of norrath/retur to arms? also id like to recommend: Kenshi Space Siege (from the people who have made Dungeon Siege) Alundra 2 (PS1 Zelda clone)
I tried playing Borderzone once, got stuck in the first fortress, reloaded, walked a bit then got super tired and had to stay on one spot to regenerate for 5 min. Uninstalled right after. Anyway, i am a fan of old janky games so here are some RPG recommendations: Ascension to throne, Dungeon Siege, Hexplore, Inquisitor, Konung series, Prince of qin, Seal of Evil, Silver.
Recently got The Last Oricru- Final Cut for $4.99, and I'm not sure if it was yourself who covered it recently, but it's quite a decent Souls Like. It's not the best, but personally, I'm enjoying it and definitely worth the price.
Can you please play Hand Of God: Legend? Its a pretty damn good german iso-RPG with famous german actors in it. I can also recommend Drakensang At The Rivers Of Time and Mage Knight Apocalypse. Awesome video btw keep it up ❤

Hahahahah "some"
The Sabotuer isn't as much an RPG but is an absolutely fantastic game
The Gunk and some of these are more platformer than RPG. Dark Messiah of Might and Magic is a Must.
I respect Click for suffering trough RPGs like Borderzone cause the gameplay looks like an ARPG equivalent of watching the paint dry.
Looks soo bad!!
@@ericsmith718 True, true, looks even worse than ancient auto-attack only classes gameplay from old CRPGs or old MMOs.

Sounds like Borderzone deserves the alternate title: "Loadingzone".
Great video as always, there's some here to consider. I have got most of my RPG games through watching your videos!
A Beowulf reboot would be amazing.
Yeah, that would be awesome! But I highly doubt it will ever happen.
I appreciate your dedication to unearthing lots of interesting RPGs for us RPG-lovers. Don't have too much time to game these days but it's nice to see the variety and unique niche titles out there.
When you said the voice acting for Requital was bad, I didn't think it would be THIS bad... Holy shit...
For instance, the alignment system that provided a bit of variety for playthroughs isn't there anymore. Alchemists who each could craft a unqiue item, aren't there anymore either. The original had at least nine unique towns in five acts, whereas it was just Avon in DoM2 from what I remember. Consequently a lot of the music and unique archtitecture is also not there.
It's supposed to be more like a DLC to the original game to end the games story
I really enjoy the way your sence of humor matches this brilliant content topic
Looking forward to see more of it
Dawn of magic 2 also had different name in Russia, it was called "магия крови" (translated "blood magic) i even had it on cd
The original was called Blood Magic I think. From what I remember the game that ended up being called Dawn of Magic 2 was originally Blood Magic - Time of Shadows.
DoM 1 was called Dawn of Magic: Blood Magic here in Poland. Cheap gaming magazines throwed in on CDs here and there.
Damn, I remember playing Dawn of Magic, loved the alligment system, you could become quite a monster :D

hey i subscribed because of the series you keep on going here, glad if there is coming more! Found several games through you, thank you!
I feel that this video is more "humoristic" than the others, at least in the editing part, I like it
I think "Neuro Hunter" fits also well in this category
The start of the game is pretty strong in my opinion i enjoyed it quite a bit
Rage of Mages
Knight Shift
Throne of Darkness
The Broken Land

some of the games i played in my childhood. 😅

Requital was made by War Thunder devs, how wild is that
Dawn of Magic worked for me on Win 8.1 and it still works on Win 10.
I loved the Beowulf game
Play Sacred 1 and 2 damnit, they are actually good.
Beowulf - a QTE hell
Also, I don't recommend watching movie either unless you're bored to death
I am not really big into ARPG's yet you mentioned there are some where you care for the Story, i'd really like to dabble into some. Maybe you could make a video on your favorite ARPG's?
I am also open to suggestions in the comments yall
Why the hell is Argentinian writer/poet Luis Borges a character in Dawn of Magic 2? :p
Anyway, great stuff as usual, we're really getting into the good shit now!
i remember KotT. ragequit it at some point, but i cant remember why. waaay too long ago
hell that was back when i was 17... ish
i actually also played shadows: awakening (and shadows: heretic kingdoms) and bards tale from previous videos (and rune, but only the classic version, not rune 2).
try arx fatalis, die by the sword, vampire the masquerade redemption, sword and sworcery, hell maybe even dark age of camelot (i think a new community shard was supposed to go live this year). id be interested what you think, but im not familiar which one of those counts as obscure or forgotten. my gaming circle is very small and we have known eachother for more than 20 years, so...
outward should count as obscure, i guess (even though its kinda new-ish). a real gem imo
I got Borderzone a few months back on a discount (GOG). Good to know I can probably skip that one and it be okay. I'd recommend Ember for a future video!
i would have loved the Beowulf game if i played it during the early ps3 era
Sea Dogs: City of Abandoned Ships
or other game from Akella
Have you covered Sudeki? One of the most fun RPG I've ever played 😁
Well done! Great job as always.
Aside Knight of the temple never heard any of these.
Someone could with a small team, tune, add, and make remaster of these old games, and pay small % to devs, maybe steam could have place for such games
The funny thing is Borderzone has some design decisions stolen from Gothic 1 and also it's a mix of sci-fi post apocalypse and fantasy even before the ELEX series.
Check out Legend of Alon D'ar, asthetically, it reminds me of Summoner, but got abysmal reviews, but it would be cool to see if it's a hidden gem
OK let's propose something more recent for your relief. Chronos before the ashes, Anima Reign of Darkness and Ashen. Also Immortal Unchained (not your favorite genre I guess) and Iesabel as an oddball (just for the lols xD)
hey man there is a ps2 old game perfect for this series. SUMMUNER 2
You must play: Fire in the Beastland
Great video as always, man! I'll comment once again if you could play/try Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader.
I'm kinda biased because it was one of my first games ever and I loved it in my teenage years so I would like your unbiased opinion about it!
wow, I played borderzone around 2008 and completely forgot the name of the game. I had it on one of those bootleg 10in1 dvds. Always were curious if the game was trash or I was stupid
Knights of the Temple 2 next?
I dont know if this counts as a Hidden gem but have u ever played Champions of norrath/retur to arms?
also id like to recommend:
Kenshi
Space Siege (from the people who have made Dungeon Siege)
Alundra 2 (PS1 Zelda clone)
Did you talk about Dungeon SIege 2 in one of your Vids? I know I saw something about the third game on your channel but I am not sure about 2.
Man, do you by any chance remember "KnightShift"? I used to play the shite out of it as a teenager but nobody seems to be aware it ever existed.
BEOWULF!! WAS AN AMAZING INCREDIBLE GAME! THANKS FOR OPEN THE MEMORIES AGAIN!
evil islands pls
Letd goooooooooo. Love this type of vydias
Recently got The Last Oricru- Final Cut for $4.99, and I'm not sure if it was yourself who covered it recently, but it's quite a decent Souls Like.
It's not the best, but personally, I'm enjoying it and definitely worth the price.
What's the best website to buy such games? GOG? Thanks.
@trymusic4life that's a good option, but the game i mentioned was from the xbox marketplace. Nothing sure if if iTunes still on offer though.
Play the game Hexplore. It’s a masterpiece
Can you please play Hand Of God: Legend? Its a pretty damn good german iso-RPG with famous german actors in it. I can also recommend Drakensang At The Rivers Of Time and Mage Knight Apocalypse. Awesome video btw keep it up ❤
Need you to cover freelancer
Look at Azurik, Hybrid Heaven and Winback
Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader (2003), if you want forgotten and or obscure. Ill bet you a pin or heart no one has mentioned it.
It's actually on the list for a while now, but thanks for reminding me about that one!
