Thank you for posting this. One of my biggest frustrations is unaccompanied minor and even had a young lady threaten sexual harassment against me. So glad I have a dash cam.

I love your videos!! I have a question as a passenger. When Uber/Lyft send out offers for discounted rides (new accounts, 5 star rating appreciation, etc), does that affect how much the driver gets paid? I've felt bad using these deals because I want to make sure my driver isn't getting stiffed. In the past, I have used the deal and made it up with a bigger-than-normal tip. What do you prefer? Do you even know when a ride is discounted? Thanks so much! :)
Great question! Doesn't impact it at all! The driver still gets paid the normal amount so you're clear to use the codes however you like! Definitely make up for it in tip anyway, I do the same thing! :)
I can think of a million (well maybe not quite a million but a lot) reasons NOT to take unaccompanied minors. Minors cannot legally agree to TOS and cannot sign for contract credit i.e. the credit card on the account. Since they can't agree to TOS, there is no agreement to pay cleaning fees, damage fee, etc. Pick up a drunk teen that pukes, you're SOL. I understand not wanting to leave a youngster stranded, but no good deed goes unpunished.

I've only had one passenger that I picked up her and a carseat.. I knew then I was picking up a kid as well on the other side. :) I would have hated to get to the other end only to find out that she didn't have a car seat to bring her kid back... Oh and nice new hair do. :) Keep up the good work with the videos.
Yeah, there have been people who have had that issue, getting a ride back somewhere when the first driver didn't mention needing a car seat. Definitely sucks. And thanks!

I had honestly never considered what it would be like with under 18s - I'm in such a bubble of friends in their mid-20s without kids yet, and my parents not really knowing what Uber/Lyft is, that it just never seemed like a thing that would happen, though of course it is :P

I do! I honestly need to invest in better ones cause, yeah, these don't look that nice.
I really hate Hospital and Health Insurance Company using it .... Those people not account owner which means no tips and will telling you they wan to drive to somewhere else.
Yeah, I get that. It's a good and valuable service, but I think medical transport should automatically have an additional fee.

What do you mean? Even if their mom calls Uber, it's still against Uber policy so you can and should decline the ride.

In California, unaccompanied minors are definitely not allowed. I've had passengers bring little kids with no car seat and claimed they've gotten rides without one and I turn them away and report right away. I enforce the rules on minors too. And I always make reports with these situations.
Yeah, definitely makes sense to protect yourself that way.

Part time, for sure! I work full time at a university.
What if a kid lies and says they're 18 are we still responsible? Should we check IDs?
If you have a dashcam to prove they lied, you could probably be legally okay. But if they look too young, I may still deny them. I'd definitely ask for ID, you're allowed per the rules.

Wow! I've had multiple underaged teens inside my vehicle. There's town in Miami like Bal-Harbour, Aventura and Coral Gables that I've picked up kids that are obviously underaged teens and are using a adults probably parents app. Some are respectful but some are so disrespectful over privileged kids that throw out the "F Bomb" in a 20 minute car ride than I do in a year. I even had one wanted to get inside my vehicle with a cigarette. I really didn't know that we could cancel them.
This is why I make these videos! People have no idea!

Any parent who doesn't bring a car seat is an automatic cancellation for me.
A lot of minors will use their parents account for Lyft. Always call the passenger before they get into your car. If the parent picks up and denies its them cancel the ride. Both after waiting 5 minutes of course.
Definitely a smart thing to do when you get a request at a school!
I usually cancel with no car seat. I gave a ride without once. She and her daughter were locked out of the building I advised her how she needs to get a seat in the future. It was a short ride so I thought was worth the risk. She actually gave me a tip and 5 stars. It is the bigger kids ( that require a booster ) that parents, typically do not bring seats for. I now carry a booster for this

Not for nothing but I did not know people under the age of 18 could not be Uber/Lyft riders alone. My daughter and her friends used Uber/Lyft on an almost daily basis in highschool well before anyone in the group was 18 years old. I was gad they could use ride share, saved me from driving them around.
Yeah, there should definitely be programs for people under 18, but they should require a lot more strict background checking and other safety precautions!

Yeah, the social pressure to have long hair is very intense for women (as seen in the comments of this video) so it is not easy to do. But I love it!

No drivers should provide a car seat under any circumstances. It is the responsibility of parents. For unaccompanied minors: wait, cancel and collect the cancellation fee, then move to the next ride
It's the responsibility of the parents, but if someone wants to provide one, there's nothing wrong with that.
@@munchkym I agree. Me personally I don't carry child seats because I have no children of my own, nor will I provide them, especially the way Uber and Lyft pay us. I don't even trust my integrated car seats being my vehicle is 10 years old.
There are different car seats for children depending of their age and size. By providing a car seat, a driver increases his liabilities and this is a very bad advice for new drivers
It's not advice. It's merely saying what some drivers do. And I mentioned liability.

Thanks for this. I've had too many rides where I've picked up mommy and daddy from a bar and got a surprise stop at daycare. They were really angry when I told them I couldn't take their kids without the proper seats, and I suggested they use a taxi service which has exemptions for child safety laws. Of course, this does not fix the problem as those kids are still riding unsafely, and more than likely they will end up in another rideshare car with a less ethical driver.
I'm sorry, that always sucks, but you did the right thing.

Odd that minors can ride on a bus or subway unaccompanied, and sometimes airplanes and trains unaccompanied, but Uber/Lyft no way. Not sure about taxis, but I would guess no. I've been taking dozens or perhaps even hundreds of Ubers alone since I was 13. I didn't discover this rule till I was 17, and I turned 18 a few months later. Both of my parents work full-time and it was often the only way I could get places. Not sure how I feel about this rule.
