- Dutch is a difficult language... so I put my husband to the test and had him pronounce different Dutch words. We took a little break because David tore his achilles... but we're back!

I used to have a colleague called Fanny, nothing wrong with the name in Dutch, but then the company extended with some international contacts and she had to call to the UK sometimes too and I could only imagine the hilarious shocked responses from the Brits 😂😅

My aunt is called Joke. But talking about names, there is a continental market here in Belfast every year, and in the early years there used to be a Dutch stall selling cheese, licorice, and things like hagelslag and mayonnaise, and the people running it was a guy named Dick, and his wife Willie.
So funny!!! My grandparents names are Fokje and Tjikke wich basically sounds like F*ck yah chicken in America. My grandfather never really traveled but when my grandmother travels to englisch speaking countries she calls herself Flo.

Yes, bedankt voor het uitleggen dat mijn naam heel normaal is in Nederland. Krijg regelmatig gekke blikken van Amerikanen of anderszins Engels sprekende personen. Leuk filmpje verder weer! I’m a Dutchie living in Madrid, Spain and my Spanish boyfriend makes me cry laughing if he reads Dutch.
In Spain the J is pronounced as a G, two L’s sounds like the Dutch J and to make it more fun, the V is a B-sound(and so is …. the B).
I live in the neighborhood Vallecas and that sounds in Spanish: Bajekas.
The Dutch letter combinations like oe, ui, ei, ij, au, ou, sch etc. and the difference between a and aa, u and uu etc. are the hardest things to master for foreigners.

There is even a woman in the Netherlands with the name Fokje Modder! We also had a minister with the name Tiny Kok.
Three other Dutch first names that might be a bit weird: Tiny (from Christine), Koen & Roel.
Het rare is dat het steeds over Nederlandse woorden gaat in elke video. Het nog raardere is dat ik het gewoon nog leuk blijf vinden ook!
Wellicht is het ook eens leuk om Frysk te proberen?

Eieren is like a double plural, in German it's ei too but their plural is eier, which we added en to to make it a 'normal' Dutch plural. No idea why it's not eien...

Yes! Words with our diphthongs and vowel combinations!
Besides ‘ui’ (which is afaik a sound unique to Dutch), also ‘eu’ (which sounds different in ‘euro’/‘kleur’ than in ‘neus’/‘leuk’), or words with ‘eeuw’/‘ieuw’ sounds would be fun.
Just a few examples of the most interesting ones, but since David’s Dutch pronunciation is already pretty good for a foreigner who doesn’t speak the language, I’m sure he’ll be even more convincing if he learns to nail those sounds!
