I've seen some batteries pass using a battery analyzer and then immediately fail using a carbon pile. I think the analyzers are decent at finding failures due to high internal resistance, such as sulfation.
Makes me think of vehicles I’ve seen that people say “the gas pump is fine” but under test its producing say 40psi and not the rated 55+psi necessary. Seems fine at first glance but under any type of scrutiny you find it’s not cutting the mustard. Some people’s mustard is thicker than others. Shoulda been a parts guy!
For your 24v battery test.. You tested 2 12v batteries in series.. Right? If so, your CCA ability does not add up like that.. It remains the same just at 24v instead of 12.. To double the CCA you run the two batts in parallel making one larger 12v battery.. Thats why when you tested the battery you set the tester so high that it was never going to reach that CCA rating, making the tester think its bad.
i have found my digital tester in not good at recently charged batteries but works pretty reliably if you have not driven car in a day or charged it. seems to read surface charge on battery not the deep charge on plates if battery was recently used or charged.
