I've been really struggling lately with depression and when I happened upon these incredible people it shed a little light on my heart and in my life. The pizza would have definitely fallen out of my mouth, because my depression sure did.

These guys would have to be one of the best duo's (the guy who just played Edge's guitar part isn't usually apart of this) in the world.
Vocalist is so insanely good it's scary.
He's a pretty handy guitarist while he sings (which brings me enjoyment & makes me sick at the same time!)
His Bass player fills out sound nicely & in some songs sings the most wicked harmonies...
Words don't describe the quality of this act. These Pizza eating people don't know what they've got...

After watching these cover videos for a good couple hours, I can only express my sheer bafflement at the proportionately lackluster response from your crowds. The quality of this stuff is superb. For any one of these songs I would personally raise the roof.

Thomas Datro Even Bono couldn't sing it like on the album nowadays. Mike's range goes from the floor to the stratosphere.

It's like Bono and Co. wrote this song 30 years ago and said "yeah, Bono is doing the vocals for now, but we really wrote it for this guy named Mike to sing it about 25 years down the road." They had to have written it with your vocals in mind. No other explanation.

I went to school at the University of Utah (across the street) during the 1980s -- it has LEGENDARY pizza. It was a hallowed institution back then !!!

for me it's the tone he gets on those notes...like most tenors that sing well can hit a b4...but over and over and with that perfect tone is a different story. it's such a perfect full mixed voice if you're familiar with that term. i sing heavier songs with b4s in them like show me how to live by audioslave sang by the great chris cornell but it's kind of an aggressive less beautiful sound. he has release into his head voice with this sound which takes most singers years of good training...i hope to get there someday.

This is an extremely difficult song to sing (try it folks!). Both the subtitles in the softer parts, and the power in the higher and louder parts. But you nailed with passion. Just perfect.

It’s just some guy who can sing...ok, and hit really high, clear tones...and hit them dead on every time...ok, and play a guitar at the same time...AND consistently pick perfect songs to showcase all that...and match and sometimes surpass the original musicians...and command the respect of almost all who’ve heard him...and happens to have one of the more underrated bass player friends anyone was ever given...and is willing to stand on the world internet and actual stages and sing his (their) hearts out...and....and...so, yeah, just some singer.

@4evergreendayfan Are you asking for the chords? I play mostly B (with open 1st string to let the E ring), then to E to A sus2 (open 2nd string) then F#m. I have no idea what fingering The Phil is using for the lead part, but you could probably find tab for it. The chords to the middle solo section are B D E (x2).
"The Phil" knows his way around those Edge sounds. He has every patch nailed.
@Nothingtearsthebeast I think of myself as a tenor, because my low range is terrible. Not that my high range is all that great.

There are those who make themselves singers due to their passion for music, etc. but then there are those born with a special gift. They just have it. Mike Masse just has it. One of the few who can channel other artists' music and make it his own.

@motherlesschild1 Lucky for me it's not a competition with Bono. :) I agree drums would add a lot, but we typically do a more "acoustic" set at the Pie (despite having electric guitar on rare occasions like this). But glad you liked our rendition.

The "oh oh oh oh" thing is the only backing vocal in the original. Is that what you're referring to? I do it a bit. I don't recall if the Edge sings that part live or not.
@FunkeeDonkee Yeah, had to re-upload it for a couple of reasons, but it gave me a chance to include this slightly better audio mix, so that was good.

Oh yeah, I remember that now. It's not on the studio version, I'm pretty sure. But I do remember him doing that on Rattle and Hum.
