It's actually a second slowpoke. The first one, the non shiny, and the one that was tested on for most of the video, was male. The second one, the shiny, happened to be female. Mike wanted to see if the placeholder male Pikachu model would change colour. Also don't worry if you expressed confusion about it, it happens, and actually, it's a good thing you pointed it out. The reason why you couldn’t skip the update is because when it updates once, it stores a message telling the switch it has a more reason update, and will refuse to be played. The only way to get rid of it is to do a factory reset.
Yeah, a factory reset might do it. Obliterating your save data and such too. It was a necessary step in uploading levels in Mario Maker 2 that could only be cleared using glitches that got patched out. And even then, it only worked for a very small number of universally fixed issues, because uploaded levels use their then-current patch versions including glitches so they don't have to swing around and delete old levels all the time.

Well, it makes sense that names, abilities, stats, and moves are retained because those are a part of the save data. It saves the details of each individual pokemon. The only things missing are the shared data (I.E. Slowpoke's model, cry, Pokedex entries, stat totals, evolution mechanics, etc.) It's trying to draw on data from the old games, but it's messy and incomplete.
It's really weird that the location where you caught it is still there since you are not able to catch any Pokémon in the Wedgehurst Station in the unpatched game.

He used Custom Firmware on the Switch and PKhex program to hack in Melmetal. It is not native to the game yet, and Pokemon Home has not quite released yet either.

What about the evolution glitch, where you press down as you are using a thunderstone on one pikachu, but it uses it on the other one instead? There's videos about this, if you want to try it with slowchu.
Remember all the pokemon basic characteristics ARE in the framework of the game, they just didn't make the switch version assets of all pokemon. They did state it in a press release for Pokemon Home when they announced the Expansion Model, essentially justifying earlier release of the core game and potentially adding more pokemon to the "transferable" list in Pokemon Home. They were vague but they implied enough upon release of DLC/expansions. And now there's Slowpoke and Zarude comin in patches. This, along with the small handful of legendaries they allowed to transfer to sword/shield through Pokemon Bank/Home makes me think they will bring most if not all of them into this generation of pokemon games on the switch platform. Also the Black/White and Sun/Moon legendaries are animated amazingly in sword/shield.
Pikachu's are just the dummy model and animations the game loads so it doesn't crash if things go wrong. The base stats and type are also the default point directions since nothing officially uses them. All of the movesets are still the same as in USUM. What's interesting to note is that the cut abilities retain their effects but the animations don't work the same. You can try testing this with Delta Stream in an area afflicted with Hail or Sandstorm weathers. What's fun to look at though is seeing Power Construct work. It doesn't heal the user because it loads a different form and the form also uses the same base stats you started with. Have you actually tried any of these other tests? Out of curiosity.
They turn into BAD EGGs, and Celebi takes them back through time to give to people who use gameshark in the Advance games. But that's just a theory! A Pokemon theory!

Have a full party then take the egg by sending one of the pokemon already in party to the pc. You’ll either clone the pokemon sent to the pc or nothing else should happen. Also try putting one of the slowpokes in the daycare with a ditto and try the same thing.
You can in fact delete the update data by factory resetting the console and not being connected to the Internet When you put the cartridge back in (You would have to cloud save tho)
I don't think that trying to evolve it into a Slowbro would have worked anyway, because I'm pretty sure that Galarian Slowpoke has a different evolution method.

Because the location code for Wedgehurst probably still exists in both versions, I think it makes sense why it would be compatible with the old one.
