- I decided to take a week off from posting old Facebook Live videos to bring you this. I've been a Genesis fan ever since I was a teenager (ca. 1986) and am finally getting around to recording some Genesis covers. Here's one of them. Enjoy!

Hands down the best solo piano performance I have ever heard of a song I have loved for decades! Every section was utterly mesmerizing but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be the Steve Hackett sequence. I say this without reservation, this was a master-class performance and I am so grateful that you took the time to record and post it, Thank you so much!

This is by far the best rendition of any genesis song by some not in the band. I usually turn them off when i sense the lack of authenticity however, I watched this all the way through as a song I have heard maybe 1000 times. I hear all of the intsruments in this version from Hacket to Rutherford to Banks and distant Collins on drums. Simply the best!

I took the keys cover off of my piano too. My fingers always hit the cover especially when playing left hand octaves. Good to see I’m not crazy.
Haha nope you're definitely not crazy. My fallboard wouldn't go in all the way so it was at an angle, and my knuckles would frequently hit it lol.

Agreed, obviously! There's so much to love about this tune. Funny, I think I read somewhere where the members of Genesis kind of downplayed the lyrics of this song. But man, this song sure turned into a fan favorite, didn't it?

It’s taken me 20 years on and off just to learn the intro and I STILL haven’t got the very last bit. The fact that you’ve learnt it all complete with the vocals is absolutely phenomenal. Also I’ve watched loads of these on YT and it’s probably the version most closest to the original. Nice one bro. Massive respect to you honey 🤩. Makes bo rap look a bit pathetic lol

BRAVO!! WONDERFUL!! WOW!! 1973 I was a sophomore in high school, 16 yrs old. When this came out I didn't understand the musical complexity but my ears told me it was amazing. You did a awesome job playing this far-from-easy piece!

Good evening, I love your cover of this great song, you have achieved the most difficult thing that can be achieved by doing a version, which is to take the spirit of the song and transfer it only to a piano and voice. Someone said that you could hear the bass, actually you can hear even Phil Collins' drums marking the tempo, because also a song as it is very dynamic, and that adds difficulty. Wow Oscar, thank you. I’m humbled by your praise. Perhaps it’s the drummer in me that is somehow subconsciously able to convey the drumming within this piano arrangement :). I’d be lying if I told you Phil Collins wasn’t my #1 drumming hero!
@@JonRossMusician Hi Jon, as I was saying, you achieve something that is very difficult because you only have it when the song is engraved in your brain, and that is the tempo dynamics, like when the flute solo starts or the last part of Hacket's guitar solo that links to the end, those are the moments where you have to lower the tempo or the volume or enhance it, this song can't be played like a robot. And at minute 5:05, and others too, the drummer inside of you appears, the cuts that Collins does on the hit-hat, you do it with your left hand on the piano and it sounds wonderful.
And I agree that Collins is a reference for you, but what drummers there were at that time: Collins, Bruford, White, Palmer, Bonham, Paice, Bozzio..... and many more.
I hope you keep on doing Genesis covers, I'm sure you won't get bored and you won't bore us.

I salute you young sir, an Amazing performance, I iterate the comments below, I've never seen & heard anyone on UA-cam perform the whole song from start to finish on 1 instrument,! As a massive fan of Genesis since 1977, this is my favourite track on the masterpiece live album 'Seconds Out'.
You should be very proud of yourself young man, Tony & the gang would be astounded & proud of your performance at your skill level in the fact that you played the whole song instrumental on your lovely piano. Very well done my friend👏👏

Actually, I just realized that SOME of the arrangement is mine: the parts where I'm singing and playing :). But all the instrumental/soloistic stuff is courtesy of that other guy's transcription.

Fantastic transcription of a rock classic to a complete piano piece. Well played that man!
Thank you! I must confess, however, I did not transcribe this myself. I found a transcription on someone else's UA-cam channel. The parts that I came up with myself are the accompaniment to my singing, and the flute solo part. Everything else I pretty much learned off the other transcription.

@@Mechtec500 no it wasn’t from Doug. I will need to do another search because I don’t remember who I got this transcription from.
I used the transcription mainly to learn the guitar solo, and make sure I was playing the piano solos correctly. Everything else is my interpretation :).
