My original leather wallet was just way too bulky, so I decided to try the Ridge Wallet. But it was kind of small.
So I bought a second Ridge Wallet and welded it to the first, back to back. That was better, but I still needed more room.
So I bought two more Ridge Wallets and welded them together and put them in my other rear pocket.
The total volume of the four Ridge Wallets is actually greater than my original leather wallet, but I feel better about it somehow, like I'm moving forward into the future while the rest of you losers out there are stuck in the past.
And it only cost me about $400 total, so I'm not carrying all that loose currency anymore.

I have used the carbon fibre one for over a year and it is the best wallet I have ever owned. It does have a small area of scratch that I think was caused by putting a key ring in the same pocket. The money clip is solid and tight, and will hold a single note or multiple without problem.

5:30 deal-breaker, obviously. My leather wallet has eight slots for my 8 cards and it is super easy to locate and remove the one card I need (without having the other 7 all spill to the ground, with a dozen people in line behind me at the counter). My other 8 cards are on my phone. One day, all 16 of my cards (D/L, etc.) will all be on my phone (like everything else is), and I'll drop my wallet (of any kind) at that time. Folding leather wallet remains the choice until then.

I think I have owned mine for two years now. The only down side I have noticed is that it scuffs up my cards. Since the cards are side by side the constant rubbing has now left noticeable wear on my cards. Nothing has ever broken on my wallet, I have lost a few screws but that is about it.

4:53 The reason you might want to go with the elastic strap version (holding money) is because you wont experience discomfort caused by that metal ridge.
If you face that metalic money clip towards your legs - you might feel discomfort in your thighs or butt. If you face that metallic clip out (away from your skin) you jeans will eventually have a worn spot. Hope it makes sense! Go with the elastic version.

    • @arania.exumai

I got the metallic clip and never had a problem with it facing towards my legs --- I slide it to the side of my pocket BUT from experience with leather wallets, I am sure it would wear badly against pants if facing outwards. Probably will do the same inwards as well --- just won't be able to see the damage as easily.

had mine for around a year now. The elastic is still in great shape and i bought the strap version which is useful for holding extra cards as well as cash although a little more clunky than a clip. I think the strip is mean for people that don't carry cash all that much though. I do have some wear that i wasn't expecting, and that was the scales that are screwed to each side of the wallet aperatus. i bought the plastic white version and they are starting to cave in over the channels where the elastic runs through. Not a big deal now but I can see it cracking eventually and maybe causing the elastic to snag and wear prematurely. Was going to reach out to ridge to get replacement scales. not sure if i have to buy them or if they will just replace them as they say they have a lifetime warranty. I guess I will see.

I've had my ridge wallet for 8 months now and it's the best wallet out for minimalists. I carry 5 or more cards and the elastic is still as if it was brand new, no fraying and the elastic strength is still there. I have the cash strap and on the underside of the strap it has a gripping material to hold onto the cash as well the elastic strength. No screws have come lose at all either. Can't see why anyone would go for any other wallet, it is the smallest wallet you can get that holds cards and cash.

A great solution for people who rarely use cash and only carry a limited number of cards (say 4). I find myself using this Ridge whenever I need a compact solution (loading up whichever cards I know I'll need). Too many cards and it can be a fiddle to locate the one you need. It is back to the traditional bill fold at other times, especially if I am using cash as I am not comfortable keeping cash on the outside of the Ridge with the clip. The cash is too visible when you pull the Ridge out and screams 'rob me'.

I have been looking at wallets like these for quite a while but I never pulled the trigger. I came across a discount a couple of weeks ago and decided to order the carbon fiber version with the strap.
As far as the way it looks, I think it looks excellent for what it is. Of course a high quality leather wallet looks great too but for what this is, I’d say it’s the best looking wallet of its kind; at least from what I’ve seen. As far as build quality goes, I see no problems there either. The materials look and feel great and the overall fit and finish is outstanding.
My one complaint with this wallet (keep in mind, I’m also very new to this style of wallet) is the same complaint mentioned in the video. The actual functionality/operation is a bit clunky - at least in the beginning. After messing around with it for a little while at my desk, putting cards in, pulling some out, switching them around, etc, I did gradually get a better feel for it and I can definitely access my cards much more smoothly now than I could when I first got it. I’m assuming it’ll only get easier so perhaps this is an issue that’ll resolve itself with time. I don’t really think it’s the designer’s fault. The idea is very simple and it was executed very well. Perhaps some people would prefer a spring loaded button mechanism or some kind of hinge but then it would just be a different kind of wallet entirely - also, it definitely wouldn’t be as small or as thin as this design. I can’t really see how they could have executed this design in a better way. It seems well thought out.
Also, it’s not as though I get to a check-out counter and have to fumble around with it and try to pry my cards out. It really is a lot simpler with a little bit of practice. Also, it just serves as a good reason to carry fewer cards on your person. The more cards you carry, the harder it’ll be to access them. My old wallet (a fairly basic card holder, held about 8 cards and had a slot for cash, not a bifold or trifold) has now been relegated to the job of holding all of the cards that are seldom used, if at all. Basically just rarely used credit cards and gift cards. That wallet now stays either at home or in the car. All I carry in the Ridge wallet are my debit card, one personal credit card, my company credit card and my drivers license. I think 3 or 4 cards is the ideal situation for a wallet like this.
It’s a little pricey (I’m a sucker for well-executed carbon fiber) but if you think this type of solution might work well for you, I’d highly recommend it. I’m not sure that I’d buy it again if I were someone who had to keep 7 or 8 cards on me at all times but if you only need to carry 3-5 cards, I would strongly suggest giving one of these a try.

I'm looking at this wallet, and I too am a sucker for Carbon Fiber, and for me, the key cards I'd have are:
      1) Driver's License
      2) Debit Card
      3) Main Credit Card
      4) Backup Credit Card
      5) Health Insurance Card
But rarely would I ever have to break any of these out unless:
      a) driver's license (don't drive so no need to worry about being pulled over by cops)
      b) I'm going to the ATM to get cash (always good to have some cash) thus needing the debit card
      c) the merchant does not accept any mobile phone payments, only uses the credit card itself. I've run into a few merchants where they have outdated machines
      d) you're going to the E/R, else your primary doctors will already have your insurance on file
The other potential cards I would have to carry are your employer's badge ID and access cards. Some use the badge ID as access, others have a separate one for the building, the other for the floor. So that now brings me to 7. Those I would need to breakout every day.
So I am tempted to buy it but we'll see. Just thought I'd add to your great post Kyle.

Have had one of these wallets for over a year and while it started out good, it is showing its wear only slightly on the outside (which I am fine with) but it is damaging my outer cards (the cards that touch and slide across the inside surface of the wallet).
Overtime, the card on top, which I slide out the most, has become very worn, peeling away the clear coating, the gets black rubbed off of the Ridge's sliding edge and sticks to the card, the tight rubbing has also worn my mag strip, making it less and less readable. Also, the card I use the least, on the bottom, is also wearing the black material off the sliding bottom edge---and I rarely slide the bottom cards out. When the black material wears off it also sticks to the card but can be wiped off with some moisture and effort.
The peeling surface coating on the top card is will sometimes cause problems when sliding my card into some full card readers.
I was a traditional leather wallet guy and moving to this type of wallet became easier overtime. Now however, I will probably just move back to my leather wallet and just won't fill it up so much.
My thoughts are that the wallet squeezes the cards too tight but with this type of wallet is probably necessary.
I have five cards in my wallet btw.
*Elastic on the sides --- I use mine pretty often and the elastic has not been an issue. It doesn't feel or look very worn, not deteriorating or wearing thin. When I look at the profile where the elastic comes out of the metal housing however, I do see that the metal housing is indented. This is due to the opening at the locations where the elastic is. The outer metal housing meets up with the sliding material all the way around the housing EXCEPT where the elastic is. The thin metal housing doesn't have the extra support of the thicker sliding material and eventually pushes in from sitting on the wallet.

I love it so far (only have had it a couple of weeks). For me, the Ridge wallet has too many downsides. Having to tighten my wallet screws? No thanks. This wallet is not for me. You have to be careful how to insert the credit cards, as opposed to just jamming the card into its pocket as I do now. Also, every time you want to make a cash purchase, you have to pull out all the bills and show everyone around you how much money you're carrying. It might make sense to use this wallet when on vacation and you use only one credit card (although the cash money is still an issue).

I carry about 8 cards and 5 to 8 bills I changed the cash strap only because my original strap did not have the metal piece on it not because of wear. The only issue I have had is the elastic is they get little beedy balls of lint on them. Card manipulation is a little awkward at first but now I can work it with one hand no problem. It's a really cool looking wallet, and I might try one for something different, but I've been using leather versions of these forever, minus the RFID. What I like about the leather versions is that the're small, minimal, soft and very comfortable. But I think the biggest advantage from what I see is that all the cards are visible. Each one sticks slightly above the one in front, so they're easy to access. Mine only holds 6-8 cards, three slots on each side, which I sometimes put two thin ones in, but how many cards do most people really need to carry? What really surprises me the most is how long it's taken for people to start adopting the idea of making the switch. I was sold ten seconds after i tried a slim card holder. I guess in all fairness, however, is that people used to carry pictures of their kids in their wallet and stuff, where now those pictures are all on their phone.

The finish is not good, mine is all scratched up after about 7 or 8 months mixed with keys in my pocket only, other then that it's a great pricey wallet.

Love this wallet - my go-to for everyday use. Can barely feel it in my pocket. Thanks for the review! I probably wouldn't have found this little gem without your sage adivce.

I've had mine nine months or so now. It's been a fantastic purchase, looks as good as new. I do imagine that the elastic will need to be replaced in the next 1-2 years, but that is a low cost easy thing to do.
I picked the carbon fiber clip version, works great. There is an adjustment period if you're used to a large old dad wallet, but once you do get used to it, it would be very hard to go back.
The RFID security thing is pointless. There's been no fraud of this kind in the US, you'd need a very modern contactless credit or debit card, which is less that 5% of cards in the US. And no, there are not gangs of thieves wandering around trying to sniff out the tiny number of Americans with that kind of card in their wallet. As they could easily just go on the dark web and buy pre-stolen cards and use those instead.
I looked at a bunch of options before I chose this one, and I really feel like this is the original and standard for this segment. Most other options seem to be cheap copies in my opinion.
