My Maiden flight of the beautiful Avios Grumman Albatross 160mm flying boat from Hobbyking!!
Take off tips: Slowly advance the throttle, head into the wind, keep the wings level on the water as best you can and youll have success!
Thanks to GBLynden for the video help! Check out his channel here: / gblynden
Avios has designed a beautiful twin-engine Grumman Albatross flying boat. What could be better than a large monohull flying boat gracing the skies or taxing across a lake? This excellent plane is made of strong EPO foam and comes with scale plastic fittings for an extremely realistic look. It is painted in a US Navy rescue scheme of seagull gray, yellow and white for easy visibility under all conditions.
The Grumman HU-16 Albatross came into service with the United States Air Force in 1949 and was primarily designed as an amphibious plane for search and rescue missions. It was extensively used for combat search and rescue in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. As an amphibian, it could land on both land and open sea and was optimized for 4-foot (1.2m) seas but could land in heavier seas.
The Albatross is well powered by twin Aerostar 3536-850KV motors with scale 3-blade 10x6 propellers. The 30A reversing ESCs make it easier to navigate around the water. The addition of a water rudder makes maneuvering on water even easier. The built-in flaps provide plenty of lift and make landings and takeoffs look easy. The Albatross provides a great presence in the air that will look outstanding at any time and can easily do scale passes that all enthusiasts enjoy.
Get out on the water and go soaring across the sky with the Avios Grumman Albatross.

To those wondering, this is the actual maiden flight, the answer is yes it is. It flew great every flight, even with changing wind direction every 30 seconds lol
GBLynden's RC great flight.
Thanks! It was fun to see John kill it :)
GBLynden's RC ្បបក
What location are you looks like a park or something
Great plane. Great model. Both my father and I were Grumman engineers. Thanks for this.
I want one please.....Frank misssssschief welcome......
Extra Cool. Looks like a fully grown planes in the sky accept for the quick turns
The second take off it's how nice!
JohnVHRC, I love that maiden take off of the albatross, that was so smooth,
Thank you, such a great flyer!
To be honest , I know jack squat about RC flying , but I can say that was about THE smoothest flying I’ve ever seen !!!
Thanks!
What a great video, nice flying 5 stars to the camera man
Thanks! GBLynden did great!
Thank you very much! I am glad you enjoyed my camerawork 😀
That take off at 3:50 was perfect, super smooth, such a beautiful plane.....really tempted to get one..
Its pretty impressive in person.
Very nice plane , and the 2nd landing was a charm, thanks for posting.
Great first flight! The kits are so special now! Great videography too!
Thank you!
Super cool.
Fantastic video and fantastic plane thank you
Very nicely done. Nice to see a flight video with someone who knows what they are doing at the sticks. I'm sold on this sweet little rig.
Thank you! Please use the link below the video :)
Fantastic aircraft. Looks so real.
Amazing build!
Flies amazing! But it glides like a rock....gotta land with enough power. Third landing was nice.
Twin 3 blade props and big round cowls. Slows anything down fast
I watch this on Wiser Lake and what a flash back to my kodiak days. I can't wait till it comes out in USCG colors "Goat". Im hopeful :)
Magnificent! Brilliant model design, building and flying.......Wow!!
any landing that the little men inside can walk away from is a good landing
This is the one I flew in:Note the clear nose! they had a bed in there and you could lie down and photograph as they landed. Flight of a lifetime....got to share it with my daughter too!
Engine reverse. Awesome.
Awesome flight!
Right on. Looks legit
It really is!
great looking plane.
Beautiful plain great flying😄👍👍
Wow what a beast of plane, awesome job!
Its a powerhouse!
Excellent flying and amazing camera work as always. Great job guys.
normleonard52 Thank you! :)
Mine is on its way , what Lipo size and c rating would you recommend now that you have flown the albatross many times ...15 min flight times are perfect ??
Beautiful 👍 😍
You make this look so pretty.
Some people expect the maiden flight goes always perfect, this plane was setup correct and was flew by a scale advance pilot, you can tell by the way he use the rudder in flight, and the way he landed the first time, bumping, but the other landings he grease the plane on the water, now the hi speed cruising over the water was super impressive. After this review, I just Click buy now. LOL>
Thanks! I hope you used the link in the description!
Beautiful plane, very nice video. Enjoyed it much, thank you for sharing!
Thank you!
The thing is like on turbo speed or something.....nice toy.
Awesome!!
I fly the real one!!!! Fantastic plane! ❤
Lucky man!! Ive watched videos, they are bad ass!!
Nice lake to fly from
It is pretty nice!
Beautifully flown John.
Appreciate it!
Good Piloting
Gorgeous plane and well displayed!
Thank you!
Great video! I had no idea the motors went forwards AND backwards! Thanks for sharing
They're electric motors, so they can. The original R-1820's don't do that so easily ...
Great Maiden. Looks like you don’t want to go too slow with this bird, you did a great job!
Thanks! Itll slow down quite a bit in flight, but you dont want to do a full stall landing like a wheel plane
De plane De plane Boss De plane!
bro you did a exellent job flying that thing ,, awesome job thanks for sharing !!!!!!!!!!!!
The plane flies very well. It looks great in the flight. The construction looks good also. I saw this on demo at the AMA Eaast Expo. The first thing to catch my eye was the out of scale tall rudder. I built a plane about the same size 9 years ago with US Coast Guard markings from Quonset Point , RI. It is such a pleasant flying plane if you just cruise it scale like to give it the real effect.
Very nice! And that nice long take off halfway through was beautiful :) Looks great fun. My only reservation is the spares HK never have anything I want in stock!
Thanks!
Good video 👍🏻
perfect fly!
Nice sound effects!
Классный самолет всегда о таком мечтал .Привет из России.
Thank you! Hi from USA!
Beautiful!
That is sweet!
Beautiful flying ,,,,,well done ,,better than perfect
Appreciate it!
Nice Ryanair landing!
Nice, I wanted to see it transit from water to land. Thanks for the video
My father flew these in the U.S. Coast Guard in Sangley Point Philippines, Marblehead Mass, Annette Alaska and Juneau Alaska.
That is awesome
Sweet take off at 3:47
Thanks!
I I saw this plane at AMA East Expo This plane looks as good as it flies. Very Nice. What I did not like was the far off scale tall rudder. I did scratch built one about the same scale size. The rudder drew my attention right away . Other than that a great flight.
The scale-models that I started building from plans 60 years ago (in '59) tended to have out-of-scale (i.e. usually oversized) horizontal stabilizers. This may have had something to do with "scale-effect" and I found that staying faithful to the wing-area proportions of the real aircraft seemed to cause instability in the models. This instability could be kept in check by the installation of a simple internal "pendulum" elevator-balance in the case of free-flight models. Maybe the oversized fin/rudder on the model Grumman was an error by the kit's makers (they sometimes happen inexplicably) rather than an attempt to rectify a stability-problem and it'd probably be more trouble than it's worth to rebuild the model's rear-end to the correct scale. Good luck with it,anyway.
One of the pilots visit the chiropractor next day. Hey nice plane thanks.
Beautiful..... Congratulations..👌👍
Nice flying John!
Thanks!
Have you been flying lately?
Great job :-)
Very nice. That flew beautiful. If you want to see what it looks like when it goes wrong watch pilot Robert and Capt BLAZ. It went bad I thought BLAZ was going to cry. Nice job John. Good filming GB 👍👍😎
They are pros at stress testing, lol. Thanks!
Thank you and I felt sorry for Blaz too. Crashing sucks, but it is even worse on camera.
poor cpt blaz. everything was going against him that day. 1) far too windy. 2) unfamilar area. 3) it was too tail-heavy 4) blaz is not too comfortable with electric planes. 5) i think the throws on the control surfaces were way to much, unless your a stunt pilot. but luck was on his side for the crash landing. it ended up upright so he could motor it back. that was great. pilot cpt. robert got er back in the air next day. that was great.
Lee Maples I agree Lee!
It is very cool , never had a plane ,got a tiny ir helocopter, it is fun stuff no matter what!
Awesome Aircraft!
Great Flight footage!
Thanks for sharing this video!
Thank you!
Thanks man!
How are you able to reverse ? Speed controller ? Pitchable props?
Speed Controllers reverse the motors
Nice kinda like UAV demonstration
Nice piloting awesome plane super smooth 👍 love to have one
Looks gorgeous! I ordered one today.
Woohoo!
The landing was not the smoothest. But it flies so good! At least landing 2 was good
This was a maiden. Watch my other videos for smoother ones.
That is awesomeeee!
Thats cool! The geese don't sound too thrilled about it though LMAO
Sweet.
You can troll with that 🐟 ! Wish I could fly like that ! (
Nice flight there, John....
What kind of plane is that and how does it float
i always wanted to build a rc sea plane
Sweet boat. Making me wonder about a Catalina - or a Short Sunderland.
Nice!
Nice job here!...Where did you set your CG? Just getting mine ready. Had the pleasure of doing two water landings in a HU-16 on Lake Isabela CA. Awesome amount of fun!
Show!
Wow so this can fly for 10mins 😯well I now know what I want for me birthday 😁
Longer!
@@JohnVHRC yeah that's what I'm seeing bro 😎 I'm keen for one now 👌
@@JohnVHRC I'm gonna have to wait before I buy this as I just bought the Dhk 100 Vampire from Hobbyking, and the minister of finance might start to judge me if x2 big box turn up at nearly the same time 😂😅
And we get 50% left after 5 Minutes of Gaming in our Phone!
Not bad at all. I love these things but never owned one
Lindo
Klasse Modell und gut geflogen 👍👍👍
I’ve been wanting one but the are never in stock in the USA warehouse.
Would be nice with retracting wheels functionality or upgradeability. Could drive it into and out of the water plus fly it without the need for water. That i would buy tomorrow.
It would be, but then the plane wouldnt be so affordable :/
If you flare a little bit more then your landings would be butter no hate just a tip
I tried that initially, and gave too much of a bounce, driving it on did the best for me.
Man, how do you get that good as a pilot
Im looking for a plane to do real cockpit fpv type flying. Great center window for camera. looking to do controlled landing with screen overlay of instruments.
So this was a maiden - and video from last week was second flight (71% and then 50% from same batt)?
Thats correct! Ive since set my timer to 14 min I think or so, for my flying style I could go longer if need be!
Wonderful.Better than land based Rcs.Except perhaps for a Me 262..
Both are cool for sure!
OH great!! Thank you John. Now I vant one more than ever!!! Hobbyking just take my paycheck!! Isn't this the plane from Commando??!!
Not sure on the movie, but its a sweet plane!
wow
Great flight. I do have a question, for half flaps and full flaps, what's your Spektrum setting with Elevator mix? I don't seem to able to set it right. Its either balloon (not enough down elevator) or drop too fast (too much down elevator). Thank you
I use flight modes, so I use the trims to tune it.
Nicely done John. That thing has a nice presence in the air although I was disappointed you didn’t do any rolling harriers. LOL 🤣checked Hobby King and no stock. 😖
She’s a beauty👩🏼🔧
A bit over the top as for performance. My papa flew these for the US Coast Guard, & crashed in one as the co-pilot in Salem harbor in May 1957...I was 4 years old...beautiful airplane...despite my challenged past with them.
They are motors, not engines. And yes, I can believe it was the maiden flight.
Excellent flying and the landings got better and better. I definitely enjoyed the video. Is their a P - 38 for sale? Electric of course
You make me want to play ace combat seven: skies unknown now, LOL 😂🛫🛩
