Chloe Troast really has a set of pipes on her. Her singing is phenomenal
you can find videos of her singing at age 12 or so posted by her mom on UA-cam
Perhaps, but nothing like Cass Elliot's.
@@EpoxinatorCass’s voice was so unique that no one could replicate it. But Chloe does a good imitation of some aspects of it.
Nice set of cans too!! ❤
I like Chloe more and more every episode.
The concept of this sketch is comedy gold and could NOT be more well executed. Emma Stone’s acting is unbelievable. Her facial expressions, physicality, she is so talented and so good at this type of unhinged performance. The supporting players are also incredible. This sketch is perfection. I was crying with laughter. Emmy please.
Agreed! I'm not into most sketches these days but this one showed some real imagination.
The voice too. Brilliant.
I've watched it about 15 times so far.
Ive watched it so many times it's almost lost its meaning, like the central gag doesnt make any sense anymore, but it's still good!
@@ifoxfirei
I’m just in awe
Emma Stone always goes all in on this show. She makes big choices and takes big risks and always kills it.
Lol what choices and risks she literally acting out the skit no risk
Right?
She held nothing back 😂😂😂
@@CoryStevens-bc6eyI’m sorry your don’t understand the difference between safe and easy choices and bold and challenging ones. The point is she is willing to fail whereas many other guests on this show play it safe. It’s really not that difficult to understand, clown town.
@@robm6252 wow do you act?
This was one of the most entertaining skits I’ve seen in a long time. Emma Stone is brilliant. Her lip sync session with Jimmy Fallon I have watched 10 times.
This sketch was about Mama Cass and it didn't have one joke about her weight. Extraordinary writing and Emma knocking it out of the park. This is another classic Emma sketch like Wells for Boys and the actress.
Honestly that alone makes it so incredibly refreshing. Ten years ago I'd never imagine SNL could make a sketch about Cass and be so respectful of her memory.
Why would it be about her weight?
@@averagedayif you’re truly asking and not being sarcastic…..bc Mama Cass was very heavy and it’s been the focus of jokes for 50 years. That she choked on a ham sandwich and that’s why she died, etc. Even in the Mamas and the Papas, Michelle Philips was the classic California beauty, and I remember them talking incredulously about the love letters Cass Elliot got, more than Michelle, despite her presumed unattractiveness, that it was bc of her beautiful voice that men fell in love. They overlooked her weight bc she sang like an angel. Even one of their song lyrics was “and no one’s getting fat except Mama Cass.” So most references to her are jokes about her obesity.
Mama Cass died from heart failure linked to hardcore dieting. To make a fat joke, even after all these years, would be so messed up
@@keegan9965 If you think think this is respectful of the art that's funnier than anything in the skit. Let's bury the 20th century kids, it's been dead more than 20 years. Do skits about the music industry TODAY. About now. Not 40 or 50 years ago. That's just sad.
Chloe's voice is incredible. Very few people have the ability to do Mamma Cass justice.
It was a great skit all around, but her strong singing kept it well anchored.
She nailed Mama Cass' voice. I had to look to see if it was Mama Cass' daughter.
I was thinking the same thing. She’s a good singer.
Didn't do her much justice with that southern accent.
it's not very good
It’s always so much better when a sketch has a final punchline, a lot of SNL sketches seem to end really randomly without resolution, but this one is set up well and lands and just wraps up the whole sketch beautifully
Sketch of the night for me. Chloe is the most exciting addition to SNL in a long time, and I love it when Emma can combine her acting chops with pure silliness.
Pretty low bar tonight..
I’m disappointed that you said that, because this is the first video I’m seeing for the night and if this is the sketch of the night, then that’s a pretty low bar. Which is unfortunate because I love SNL.
We all love SNL. That’s why it’s so sad it sucks so hard these last few years.
I think the humor in this sketch is for a very specific kind of person. I personally loved every second of it, but I can see this not being everyone's sense of humor. Emma did fantastic, and Chloe singing always blows me away.
@@rykwon4535 Convinced they put the kiln and band performance sketches in there to make this look better lol
After watching this sketch so, so many times, I think it's one of the best-crafted sketches I've seen on SNL. It's setting up the final gag from the beginning.
- First slow-mo establishes the premise
- Second slow-mo sets up the scenario of the "powerless" woman in a room full of powerful executives
- Third slow-mo/scenario introduces the idea of the movie trailer
- Fourth slow-mo, combines all three of the above
A lot of SNL closing jokes just try to be surprising or unexpected, but this one is set up so well.
I get what you mean, but I don't think it functioned as a major punchline or anything. All the big laughs were already had. It was just a tight way to finish the sketch
100% agree!!!
This comment is basically a mini-clinic on sketch writing. Cause you totally nailed exactly why this one works so well.
ANd I think it is THE WORST EVER...and 20 minutes too long
It will never be this deep but it is funny
Chloe has PIPES ya'll. Girl can sing, act, has comedic timing down.
I think the timing is still something to work out for the new cast members, but it was a good sketch
@@HoNow222Check out Chloe Troast singing in the Little Orphan skit. She has an amazing voice. Hope she comes back next season.
@@djchino774Ice jj fish is better for sure
She’s awesome
lol
Emma deserves an academy award for this skit . This is probably the 30th time I’m watching it
Emma deserves an Oscar just for this skit
If they ever make a Phil Spector biopic, they know who to cast.
came here to write this very thing!!!!
But Oscars are for movies.
This is the new cowbell. Holy shit is this amazing.
This was so dope! I’ve never seen a performance from Emma like this. She loved this character!
"Mama, Sing this one like a haunted *chiiild* " ....
... And she did 😮 truly phenomenal impersonation and singing. ❤
Emma is showcasing her comedic acting. It's very impressive.
I was hoping Ryan Reynolds would make a cameo here. It's like she was describing a scene from Deadpool.
Tbf, she began doing comedies: her very first movie was _Superbad._
She's mostly a comedic actress
She always does comedy. Tf you talking about
Literally the worst comment I've ever seen.
THIS. THIIIS is a skit that feels like an instant classic. Super creative, super committed, volume hits just right & just the right self awareness.
if ONLY it was funny
Finally an informal sequel to the classic “more cowbell” sketch. An amazing performance by Emma Stone.
Don’t compare this with to more cowbell lol. Not even in the same universe
Not as good as Cowbell, perhaps. But, I disagree. This is the sketch everyone will be talking about this season. Which puts it in the same solar system at least.
Someone commented at the beginning before actually watching the sketch lol
@@rykwon4535 very true
@@Cellogrinder1 It's in the same universe because it was probably written at 3 AM when everyone was tired and slap-happy and throwing random ideas at the wall to see what sticks. The big difference would be that Cowbell was the one in a million gem that is somehow brilliant in spite of how stupid it is, and this was an unfunny mess.
Doing a Mama Cass sketch in 2024 - I’m living for it! Emma Stone is a genius as always and I don’t think I’ll ever forgive SNL for letting Chloe Troast go after one season - what the actual heck?! She was an amazing fit for this show and was outstanding in all of her sketches!
Same. They did her so dirty.
I definitely agree. SNL were dang fools for letting Chloe go.
Emma is exceptional because she KNOWS HER LINES so can focus on acting. Other guests (and most of the cast) don't and have to focus on just READING their lines. Emma delivers great entertainment.
I freaking love Emma, she's so damn funny and silly. She really sells the energy of an insane record producer
She's always impeccable! 😍
Lorne discourages the cast from memorizing their lines because there are a lot of last minute changes.
Thanks for the insight @@MultiNadiam
@@MultiNadiam yeah but the best hosts are the ones who still memorize it so that they can just learn the 15% that changes at the last minute too. Adam Driver, Melissa McCarthy, Emma Stone, Justin Timberlake all perform like the best cast members who can riff without reading the lines (ex. the bronx beat skit with Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Andy Samberg, and Justin Timberlake)
Brilliant writing and acting. The little spot about "timing" last week was foreshadowing. For Emma to get in her lines so perfectly - seamlessly blending into brief pauses during Chloe's (Mama's) smooth rendition - was truly impressive. Chloe did Mama justice.
This skit is working overtime on a lot of levels. It’s skewering and satiric in the best ways imaginable. Kudos to whoever wrote this and for the cast for hammering it home.
This was the worst sketch of the night
@@jg2722 you're the worst sketch of the night!
@@jg2722You’re insane. This was literally the only sketch that made me laugh.
@@jg2722Thanks for proving my point. This sketch is too smart for some.
Yes yes !! Describes it perfectly 💛🍇
I keep watching this skit and it cracks me up every time haha from the Phil Spector type wig to the “Hurkey Jerky” line 😂 💀
One of the best skits in a while, really knocked this out of the park with so many angles of being exceptionally entertaining.
rare sketch where they knew how to end it
All hurky jerky gets me everytime. LOL! I love Emma Stone. Great actress and a perfect skit for her.
It's amazing how much better a skit becomes when you have a talented host who commits to character.
And writers
This was a special one here. Singing on point. Acting on point. Physical comedy on point. And the concept just works.
My gosh! Whoever came up with the concept for this skit hit it on the mark! Emma was perfection & only Chloe could belt out Mama Cass like that. This is Emmy material. 🥰
should have walken come out on stage at the end and open his mouth like he was about to say something, then shake his head and walk offstage
Now if Chloe could do sketch comedy as good as she sings!
Every 5 years or so, SNL writes a sketch that you’re sure they created just for you, and this is one of those for me. It hits me just right.
They had two this year. The George Washington skit with Nate Bargatze is on par.
Yeah, I haven't felt this seen since they did the Weezer sketch
Emma Stone is one of those rare hosts who could be a cast member. This sketch was so good. It felt like peak 90’s SNL.
Uh, perhaps peak 70's for my generation...
Chloe Troast not being asked back for another season is truly an injustice. SNL messed up big time.
Lorne making decision after decision showing that he should have retired 10 years ago.
One of the reasons this hit so well is that Emma memorized her lines, and wasn't locked on the cue cards - true professional. If it didn't have that flow, it would have tanked. Kudos to everyone involved in this sketch. SNL at its best!
Okay but lowkey, the Joan of Ark movie concept slaps and I would totally see that in theatres
Emma Stone is one of the best actors around. Anyone else would have stalled, tripped up or stumbled on this and it’s as if she’s had three months to prepare for this role lol I love her!
Written by Mikey Day, Streeter Seidell, Jake Nordwind and Mike DiCenzo. Great job guys! So creative! Emma's performance was excellent, Chloe continues to be an amazing singer and the physical comedy from Mikey, Bowen and Andrew was phenomenal! Brilliant!
This is brilliant, bridging the connection between the original songwriter's intent and how modern movies use them to juxtapose violence. Genius on the writer's part!
It does sound like something on a Tarantino playlist.
Yes and for the original songwriters and perfomers, and the generation who loved these songs when they were new, a royal pain in the ass hijacking and bastardizing the song's original intent
Emma Stone is absolutely amazing.
One of the best acted skits in all of SNL.
Besides the obvious brilliant performances by Emma and Chloe, can we also give a shout out to the physical comedy of Andrew, Bowen and Mikey! Andrew's being shot fall was epic
They looks amazing in these vintage outfits
Totally
Amen! Thank you -- I was wondering when someone besides me would mention that amazing physical humor!! Really made the skit happen
also love how his jacket unbuttons at just the right moment
Mikey's slow mo had me in stitches 🤣
Emma is hilarious in this skit. This could be a character in an actual comedy film.
I love that they’re showcasing Chloe’s vocal range in this episode. It was like Mama Cass possessed her.
Her next song, please.."Me and Bobby McGee"!
I was convinced this was a recording of the original.
4:16 - its her reaction to the hand that sends me over the edge 😂😂
Emma holding the cig for this whole sketch is killing me 😂.
Why?
really bruh?
so anyone you see holding a cigarette makes you laugh
u need help
With all of the props and physical acting!
This isn't her first time killing zombies.
@@Tao_Tology
still corny
I always love well-done layers of acting. Emma Stone playing this male producer, who plays a series of female characters, but always as more or less himself. But Emma manages to sell the whole thing perfectly.
The concept behind this skit is so rich. I love it. I wonder whose idea it was.
And a real send up of today’s movie tropes. Fun one!
Assume its someone who is a little angry and a Cass fan
Mikey Day, Streeter Seidell, Jake Nordwind and Mike DiCenzo wrote it.
Emma Stone is one of the guests that's goes all in on whatever premise & it shows.
Emma's acting is next level on this. Chloe's voice is so pleasing in this sketch. Can't wait to watch Poor Things!
Also it's great that she sings that one note slightly flat, just like the actual Mama Cass. "-sing- your own special song" First part is always just a tiny bit flat and she nails that detail.
To be fair, it's a weird note to be hitting and your brain's first instinct is to slide into it. Especially with the arrangement being what it is.
I think it'd be the first instinct of many vocalists, of which I know a large amount.
If she's doing it on purpose, tho.... Then holy canolis, woman.
SNL has had many good vocalists as cast members. There's a lot of crossover with music and comedy. But she is particularly good.
Of course it would be accurate, that was documentary footage of future-zombie-movie-soundtrack-artist Mama Cass.
this being performed live instead of pre-recorded makes it so much more impressive
And this is why Emma is an Academy Award-winning actress. Brilliant performance. Betting that this will win her a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series. And this is Chloe Troast's breakout performance on SNL. She just got her contract renewed with this one :)
I like how not only was my most played song on my Spotify wrapped this year then two days later this sketch comes out, this is also exactly how I feel every time I listen to this song.
Not many hosts can carry the comedy of a sketch like this.
Yup. Emma Stone is always good on SNL but this was out of the park!
She and Melissa Mccarthy are the only two that come to mind!
Wow Chloe was such a talent I can’t believe they fired her
The irony about Emma trying to shoot down “zombies”.
It feels intentionally, like a parody homage of her work from Zombieland.
However, this proves Emma Stone is capable of bringing comedic range, so hilariously good.😂👏
Agreed!
Yess!!
Unintentionally?
It’s exactly a reference to Zombies
Wow ya think
This is the best SNL sketch I've seen in AGES. The concept, the writing, the slo-mo, Emma, Chloe, it's all brilliant.
Emma Stone is *phenomenal* in this sketch.
This song brings me back to LOST Season 2 Episode 1 when they finally get inside the hatch. This is the song that Desmond is playing
YES!!!
Was looking for this comment!
I really thought that this was going to be the main idea for the sketch.
Sketch was amazing. Chloe's talents shine brighter every time. She not only has beauty, but a gift singing comedy and acting. Love it when Emma Stone hosts so talented.
I’m so sad Chloe isn’t coming back this season she was incredible
As a big fan of the Mamas and the Papas, which of course includes the one and only Mama Cass, I appreciate this skit.
Even after what John Phillips did?
@@AvaAdore-wx5gg These days? Just put a few videos of yourself singing on UA-cam and promote them.

Unique musical creators too often go nuts. Its the power that often gets to them. Not ever a good thing.
@@Andrew-jb2iy yeh he's disgusting and so is michelle gaslighting her step-daughter and stealing the guy mama cass wanted. i still like the group, though.

what a talented bunch, especially Chloe ❤
I LOVE that they are giving Chloe more singing parts after her Moon Song skit with Timothy Chalemet! She really does have a great singing voice! 😍😍
I go back and rewatch the Moon Song at least once a day. It's so ridiculously good. But now it has competition with this!
@@blakefarnsworth omg me too. I love musical skits so I hope Chloe will inspire more of them.
Emma really throwing herself into the performance as a total goofball is everything ❤ love Chloe’s voice. This was so funny
Instant classic SNL sketch. Everyone involved crushed it.
Bizarre move letting Chloe go from SNL. Awesome singer and real funny. Could have done a lot with her.
Mama Cass had a big heart and was one of the most understanding people in the music business back then! She was totally approachable and LOYAL and was always there to lend a hand until the day she died.
“You smell what I’m steppin in, mama?” 😂😂😂😂
Emma's comedic acting is the best. You can tell she loves to entertain.
This is a spiritual sequel to Cowbell and one of the best skits on snl in very long. Emma Stone always goes big and she never misses.
the best sketch of today so far, so creative
This entire sketch is amazing, start to finish, top tier satire, nailed the button, had me laughing the whole time. Excellent excellent excellent!
Chloe needs more opportunities to sing, regardless of whether or not they're comedy songs.
Nah
She’s very good!
Holy sh*t??!! The vocal range ??! She could voice act even a grown man character , a teen one would be pretty easy for her!! Props to her for that 👏 🎉
Emma killed it! (Along with her cast, over and over again.)
I want to say, the choreography here is incredible.
💯
Mikey Day is so amazing
I lost it at "You smell what I'm stepping in, Mama?" 😂😂😂🤣☠
“I come in, I’m in a dress” is it for me 😂
Emma Stone never disappoints!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I always loved this song and Mama Cass. I'm glad both have gotten renewed appreciation thanks to crazy trailers and this skit.
As a flutist, you're just expressing a fantasy we all have had with our flutes in that second part
I’m so sad they fired Chloe. She was hilarious and what a singing voice.
Chloe and Emma need an Emmy just for this sketch alone. Incredible
Emma’s physical acting in this skit is just phenomenal. Watch it again and just pay attention to her use of her body. She’s amazing.
It is absolutely extraordinary! She can do absolutely everything!
So many amazing SNL skits, but this, all I have to say is wow! She can sing! And of course Emma is also amazing! Loved this so much!
Fantastic skit! Emma Stone is such an incredible actress. She deserves an Emmy for that performance. Chloe was also outstanding.
I’m not a raving Emma Stone fan but damn she really nailed this!! She committed. Well written sketch 😂
What a voice!! SNL cast is so talented. I love Bowen Yang and Marcello Hernandez. They’re all incredible Emma is AWESOME! Comedic GOLD 😂😂😂❤❤❤
Special appreciation for the singing. Chloe did fantastic! This was really top notch!!

This sketch was so intricate that it could have easily failed but they performed so well and it hella resonated with me.
Amazing voice Chloe Toast!
The high quality of this sketch is on par with "More Cowbell". Absolutely loved it!
Andrew Dismukes reactions are hilarious, great sketch
Ms. Troast has a wonderful tonal quality. I wonder how long she had to listen to Cass to get that phrasing down? It makes you wonder what other vocal impressions she could do.
