Thanks for the video. Your service saves us all from misery.
Thanks for this video, Essex! I did this procedure when the 8 I purchased new in Nov. 2003 hit about 55,000 miles in 2017. The car has always run great, but after the Seafoam, the difference was amazing!
Question- I’ve seen videos about carbon buildup in SSVs. Would this procedure help to clean or maintain the SSV? If not, how can I keep it in good order without all the hassle of removing the thing to clean it?
No it would not as the Service nipples are located after the SSV. We may do a video in the future of now to steam clean the SSV as we have done this to several cars recently to help free them up and it has been very successful.
Yes please
Should I remove the fuel pump relay and fuse along with disconnecting the Eccentric Shaft Position Sensor?
No need, removing the sensor will prevent the injectors of spark plugs from firing during cranking.
I use to use ATF back in the old days before seafoam
thats a real old skool trick
Do you start with the old or new plugs after soaking?
Old plugs, then change the plugs to new ones after the procedure is done
Do you have a catalytic converter on the car, is it safe to do this process with catalytic converter on the car?
Yes we have never had an issue with this process even with a catalytic converter installed.
Can I use spray seafoam and spray it through the intake valve while the engine is running, so good or not?
We have never used the spray so cannot comment on this i am afraid
My plugs are new can I do this then clean my plugs up again
Hi Gary, you could, there are plenty of people we know who have, its just that they can get fouled with crap, and you cant wire brush RX-8 plugs up.
This is why we recommend using an old set of spark plugs.
I drive a series 2 8 with 42,00kms done so far. Is this needed or should i wait for a bit more
I am afraid this is not something i can answer, many owners in the UK have done this, there was a really but trend a number of years ago of owners Seafoaming their car, and it seems to be more popular in the USA,
However if done properly it should not harm anything.
I'd recommend doing it, along with your fuel system if you premix.
Can you let it sit overnight will it harm the engine I have a s1 rx8
If you watch the video they soaked for a few days
We have soaked engines for 1-2 weeks before without issue.
Hi there. How often could/should you do this?
We don't recommend it as a regular service thing, but some owners choose to do it yearly.
Personally we see it as a last resort to cleaning carbon from a potential low compression engine caused by carbon build up. That said if the low compression it front worn seals then seafoam will not fit it.
Can I put it in my gas tank
