You can just feel the emotion and pain in Robert's voice on this track. Especially towards the end when the song changes key and he is singing "sometime...sometime..." A Soft rock/ballad but such a powerful song that I never tire of hearing.
John Bonham convinced Robert Plant to not leave the band, after the death of little Karac, in 1977. Three years later, in 1980, John died and left the life of his best friend, Robert. 😔
For me, Fool in the Rain, Carouselambra, All My Love, and I'm Gonna Crawl are four of their best songs. Top notch material. Sure, a little less thunder but same high quality. Sad that some Neanderthals can't adapt or progress
Mr. Frankincensed, why are we, now, in agreement? Well, actually, I wouldn't say "four of their best songs" but I would say four of the best songs on this album, and four songs that I wouldn't consider lesser songs than anything else they've done. I'm looking forward to STB's reaction to 'I'm Gonna Crawl'.
rhymeswithteeth I’m looking forward to it too. I first resisted this album but after listening to it repeatedly the first few days, I loved it. This has happened to me fairly often. @@blondelebanese9922 I've had that kind of experience, too. David Bowie's album, Heathen, was like that for me. I came to the point where I've decided to not formulate my final opinion of an album until I've heard it all the way through, five times.

"Fool in the Rain" is a phenomenal track and a very lighthearted celebration of the note, the voice, and the beat - it was my favourite for years. Another was "Hotdog"
Another great review STB! I've heard this song a few thousand times and it's been one of my favorites for the last 40 years. And yet I still got emotional while listening to it during your review. For many years I thought it was a sappy love song instead of a tribute to his son. This was our first dance song at our wedding. 🙏
5:48-5:53.....when you made that accurate observation....it blew my mind....amazing, because nobody else gets it, but you. Man it's doing a number on my soul right now brother. I can't even begin to describe the emotions I'm feeling right now 😂🙏😍
How did you know that? I've grown up listening to this my whole life.... and I thought I was the only one who can connect the dots. I've been watching your reactions....and I'm always very impressed with your observations. Thank you my brother.
I think your analysis of this song and the direction it portends, is absolutely spot on. JPJ was the driving force behind this album, and the fact that he was injecting the synth sounds is proof that Led Zeppelin was, in fact, on the leading edge of that change going into the '80s. They listened to the radio all the time, they kept their fingers on the pulse of the music, they knew what they were doing.
Had Bonham lived, Page said on many occasions that the next album would have been a return to a heavy, guitar driven style. He and Bonham discussed it and were planning to go there given the chance.
Plant has said that this song is both about the loss of his son Karac and the birth of his new son, Logan (Hence the line "For me, the cloth once more to spin.") He and his wife Maureen had another child pretty quickly after losing Karac, and I think that did help them to overcome some of their grief.
Page, Bonzo and Grant we're on smack by 77 (and coke. especially Peter), Plant was not happy and Jones was holding it together.... yet, they still made ITTOD an album with 2 or 3 gems nonetheless 🤔. I don't know how the heck Bonham's playing was never affected ( I know mine would be) and Bonzo was still rock solid. Thanks for another awesome reaction. I really look forward to them.
This album was mostly recorded and written by Jones and Plant. Page was a heroin addict at the time and had very little creative input in the recording sessions. That's the reason it is a keyboard dominated album.
There are a lot of out takes from the studio sessions of this album around on the tube, the band were still pretty much together really and you can hear them counting in the numbers during rehearsals, Page would often go in the studios at night to do overdubs, true he wasn't involved as much in the writing due to his addictions but his contribution is still there....
It's a deeply personal song about Robert coming to terms with his child's untimely death. The concept is that divine beings weave the reality of human life like a tapestry of threads, and that even when a thread seems to go nowhere there may yet be a deeper meaning to the story of human life. One can see how any life, even one made cruelly short by fate, is still significant and present because it is part of the tapestry and has as such has some meaning in it. Ariane is the French form of the Greek name Ariadne, who saves Theseus by giving him a ball of thread so he could go into the labyrinth, slay the Minotaur and find his way back out. Ariane's thread leads through the maze and out of it. Plant sees himself lost in the maze (or tapestry) because he can't see where the thread of his sons life has lead, cut off as it seems to be before its time, but if only he could have a word from the proud Ariane that his son's thread is really part of the tapestry, he would have the faith to accept that while he has no answer to his grief, that an answer is there somewhere, and that his son's life was more than a feather in the wind. Ariane's thread is also a term in logic that refers to a certain way of figuring out puzzles by thinking through every possibility. If you review the lyrics carefully you will see that weaving and threads are an integral part of the imagery. From Forums.ledzeppelin.com
I found the following quote that Page wanted to follow In through the Out Door with a "hard-driving rock album." " Though Page supervised the release of In Through the Out Door like every other Zeppelin recording, he had his doubts about the sweetness of “All My Love.” According to Page, Zep had some sort of heavy response to that tone coming ahead. “Bonzo and I had already started discussing plans for a hard-driving rock album,” Page told Guitar World in 1993. Given how Plant felt at this point - and how Jones has assumed his biggest leadership role on Out Door - it’s interesting to think about how the other “camp” would have responded. Since Bonham passed before they had a chance, we’ll never know. However, it’s telling that Page, Plant, and Jones haven’t found enough common ground to play together consistently since those days. Even if Bonham lived, the situation might have been like Plant’s “Carouselambra” lyrics." Welcome back STB. I can’t wait for your review to “ I’m Gonna Crawl”. It is a truly great love song with a little bit of thunder. I believe it could be Robert Plant’s greatest vocal performance ever. You can really feel the emotion in his voice.
Interesting that you say that about his vocals - I agree - but what makes it great is that fact that his voice had become more ragged over the years and you can hear the maturity, he's not a young man anymore and it enriches the lyrics. He probably could not have sung "I'm Gonna Crawl" when he was twenty.

Great reaction. A devotional.....i like it. It is funny how many devotional Zep fans kinda diss their last album....yet wouldn't dare not have it in their collection or dare not play it. There are varying reasons for them picking holes.....it was the only Zep album that Page wasn't the central musical figure through-out, due to 'health' reasons and many not liking that Jones appeared to be. Its Zep in a much more sombre less Rocking mood. Also, the non-remastered CD had a lot to do with it IMO. The album has much more bottom to it. It has since been remastered and more Zep-ites have warmed to it. My only gripe with the album is that it doesn't flow like every other Zep album but that's a minor quibble. It still holds up.....and I'm sure if Bonham had lived their follow-up to this would have hit much like Zep 4 did after Zep 3. Peace. Out.
Interesting thoughts regarding their future direction Soulbro. In the book "Trampled under foot" it mentions that Page and Bonham after this album were already looking at the next album as having a much heavier sound, going back to their rock roots. Unfortunately, we'll never know.

I think they were staying current with the times . Robert lost his son Karac at the young age of 5 during their '77 tour Idk if they would've been together much longer than this tour , Which obviously was shortened by Bonham's death.
Soul Train Bro , is your reaction to the song "I'm Gonna Crawl" going to be viewable from Vimeo or UA-cam? It has been on Patreon for a couple of weeks now, but it is still locked and only paying Patrons can unlock the video. The same for the first song from CODA album "We're Gonna Groove". Thanks.
Robert Plant wrote a eulogy in song to his boy called I Believe. I would urge you to listen to it as your next reaction That one most definitely puts a lump in your throat. A beautiful song in memory of his little boy. Either the studio version or the official video, which has such poignant imagery, are good. I truly do urge you to give it a listen, as it is kind of a “final farewell” . It is part of his album Fate of Nations released in 1993....... so 16 years after Karac’s death
Next, on to one of their most underrated songs, I'm gonna crawl. You're going to love it. The footage of course is not this song.. But still a great song.. In memory of Karac Plant
The meteoric rise and the tragic fall of Zeppelin. So much happened wrong at the end but the what could have been is apparent in the mid 80's solo work.
I hope CODA is reviewed because it has a couple great tunes like "Wearing and Tearing" and "Darlene' plus a version of " You shook me" and another drum solo "Bonzo's Montruex" (spelling). Left overs or not, it's still Zep and it's still great!
It's a point in Zeppelin's history when we knew the end was in sight. Bonham's passing closed the book. Page lost control of his very own band long before the final chapter. Very sad.
Besides this album version, you also can listen to the studio outtake version which has longer outro ... There you can hear a beautiful guitar solo from Jimmy Page that not heard on this studio version and more of Plant's words of his feeling ... I prefer the studio outtake version to the this version ... More soulful for me ...
One more, if you're wondering how the thunderous Led Zeppelin signature sound in the 80's would be alike, maybe you can hear the song "Wearing & Tearing" from the album "Coda" (The song is an "In Through The Outdoor"'s left off) ... And maybe you can also hear their unfinished studio outtake "Fire (Say You're Gonna Leave Me)" ... I think those songs can be your input on how to imagine their position in the 80's ... Thanks for your attention, STB ...
The beautiful tragity of this story is that by 80 they were cleaner/tighter and more together than they had been since those dark days of 77-79, families fight sometimes and the thing they have all always said was that always loved each other, even if they didnt see eye to eye all the time... and they were looking forward and planning the next album... then of course, bozo dies... This spirared Page right back into a hole of drugs... That recording story is kinda a half truth... they always recorded the basic tracks live in the studio so they all had to be present... Overdubs and solos and such may have been recorded seperately and Page and Bonzo did leave most of the writting to Plant/Jones but Jimmy being, you know, the producer and all, was in fact there for alot of it... Dont believe the hype, look up interviews and quotes from Jimmy himself... And yes you are correct - the next album was indeed going to be a 'back to basics' heavy rock album, again according to Jimmy...
For a junkie, it’s difficult to be interested in anything that isn’t heroin. Lost some close friends who overdosed. I’m glad Page got himself together before that could happen.
I can't agree that this album is an indication of what would have been. I really believe it's a one off. When I listen to Robert Plant's first solo album, to me it bares no resemblance to this album.
Great reaction. I always dislike these type of fan edit music videos that try to make it look like the band is playing the song. It can be really distracting and take away from the song
Bonham and Page had alcohol problems and Page was also a heroin addict at this time which is why Plant and Jones gave more input to the work to compensate. The band was probably starting to fall apart even before Bonham died in 1980. The Rolling Stones never changed their sound much for the 80s. They just carried on playing the music they enjoyed. Plant had probably had enough though by the time John Bonham died. Page was still a heroin addict. Bonham was a key part of creating the thunder and they felt he was irreplaceable. Nor did they want to try to replace him.
Great, great mature Led Zeppelin work, without a Page solo, instead a John Paul Jones solo. This makes it more special and great in my opinion. I can only think what they would have given us as musicians in their most mature stage, one more example is the song Im Gonna Crawl.
Pagey did not want this song on the album because it did not fit the style and the direction he wanted the band to go and it was to poppy for his liking but he allowed it to be added in the album out of respect to Robert Plant because it was written as a tribute to his child who had died but Jimmy was never really crazy about this song...Jimmy also hated Living Loving Maid and i believe he never played that song live as well!
I'm not the biggest fan of synthesisers, I prefer when Jonesey plays a traditional organ. This song is quite OK though, especially knowing what it is about. Who knows what they would have been like if Bonham hadn't died? If Page & Bonham would have been able to curb their addictions I am sure we would have continued to hear a heavier guitar driven band. I can't say I like the 80:ies. It seems Phil Spector produced every record. What I particularly dislike though is synthetic drums.
Don't forget No Quarter live from 1975. I sent the link. It would be kind of anticlimactic if you wait until you are done reviewing In Through The Outdoor and Coda.
The Meathead element of zeppelin fans are unable to appreciate songs like All My Love or Tangerine. Everything needs to be Whole Lotta Love or Black Dog or Immigrant Song. There was a funny quote by Plant around the late '80s talking about some of the people attending his concerts waiting for the real hard rock material. He called them "meatheads" Incidentally, if you put a gun to my head and forced me to name my 4 favorite Zeppelin songs it would probably be Ten years gone Achilles last stand No quarter Rain Song That's the way - for a top 5
I couldn't imagine what he was going through losing a child, very heart felt.

Peace. Out.
The thing that makes this guitar sound unique is that Page became obsessed with B-Bender guitars... he used them all over this album.
I've seen interviews where Bonham and Page said the next album would be going back to harder rock had John lived.
I predict I'm gonna crawl will be one of your favorites. It's right in your wheelhouse!! Get ready
Best Zep song that captures the loneliness of the road is 'Tea for One' from the album 'Presence.
Interesting thoughts regarding their future direction Soulbro.
In the book "Trampled under foot" it mentions that Page and Bonham after this album were already looking at the next album as having a much heavier sound, going back to their rock roots.
Unfortunately, we'll never know.
Dude I love you you're like my brother I remember back in my past now I'm 52 right now but I remember back in my past when I was 16 or 17 and just smoking a joint or something like that and put it on the record albums you seem like part of my gang and Believe Me Brother I was part of a game it is so great to hear you and I'm ashamed I'm ashamed that this station or your well excuse me I guess you would call it your UA-cam Channel cannot Master app light Beyond 10000 I like the video and I saw the numbers and they weren't up to Snuff yet I asked all the listeners out there to push forward with this man effort very professional production very likable personality or musical credit or even the word pungent I don't care but with this formula this guy deserves way more like so let's get with it guys come on now like it or lump it and believe me you don't want to look at you got to like it or even love it I love this guy so come on guys and punch that like button peace out God bless
There were many more likes and views to this content when he originally posted it but pulled all is content down off UA-cam some months ago. All the comments reactions and views you see our new since the re upload. There would have been double the numbers at least had he left his content on UA-cam
I think they were staying current with the times . Robert lost his son Karac at the young age of 5 during their '77 tour
Idk if they would've been together much longer than this tour , Which obviously was shortened by Bonham's death.
I’m betting they’d have made a few LPs in the 80s... money got bigger and these guys were business mavens
Robert plant lost a young son.... what song is about
Jimmy Page and Bonzo had a vision for a hard rock album for the next one. But sadly it was never to be.
Thanks.
Both on Vimeo
@@SoulTrainBro, Thanks
Love your name.
Great👍
Where's the reaction vids for presence album?
Vimeo
Video is from Song Remains the Same movie , the vocals are dubbed over the video
Very sad.
Bass sound?
Do "Darlene" off the CODA album
IT WILL GET MOVEMENT FROM YOU
at least a head bob, if not a chair spin😎
@Base Ball isn't it ??
Rock n Roll 301 : Advanced
JPJ dominated this album cuz they couldnt seem able to get Jimmy into the studio on time.
For a junkie, it’s difficult to be interested in anything that isn’t heroin. Lost some close friends who overdosed. I’m glad Page got himself together before that could happen.
blonde lebanese Yes. It’s ironic but I think listening to this LP helped make him angry enough to quit.
I can't agree that this album is an indication of what would have been. I really believe it's a one off.
When I listen to Robert Plant's first solo album, to me it bares no resemblance to this album.
Actually, I've always thought that vocally, ITTOD and PAE have a lot in common.
Get us more Purple!!!!!! 😁
Dario gIllan Hush, not now.
Great reaction. I always dislike these type of fan edit music videos that try to make it look like the band is playing the song. It can be really distracting and take away from the song
Wait! You said that there is a reaction to EVERY Zep song, That means that there is a reaction to The Crunge somewhere on Patreon or Vimeo??
except that one
IMO!, still sounds like classic Zepplin. After this album though. .???
I thought you shut the channel?
Pagey did not want this song on the album because it did not fit the style and the direction he wanted the band to go and it was to poppy for his liking but he allowed it to be added in the album out of respect to Robert Plant because it was written as a tribute to his child who had died but Jimmy was never really crazy about this song...Jimmy also hated Living Loving Maid and i believe he never played that song live as well!
Lafayette has really let himself go
Why?
Because, “It’s there no matter what they do”.
A beautiful song. This isn't the right video for the song, though.
Yeah, it looks like a fan-made video with footage from The Song Remains the Same compiled to make it look like they're playing "All My Love."
This would have been better without the old video montage.
Dude you said synth right, nice 1! Every time you since lol.
I keep telling the screen pronounce it. Sin thi sizer
He called them "meatheads"
Incidentally, if you put a gun to my head and forced me to name my 4 favorite Zeppelin songs it would probably be
Ten years gone
Achilles last stand
No quarter
Rain Song
That's the way - for a top 5
That's a great list
I think his son passed between after the release of physical graffiti and the release of presence
