    I had to watch this several times (10+) before I had a true indication of what it all meant and how good Bonham was. I wish the guy who made this would more on it. Thanks for reacting to this. Lots of people think Bonzo was great because he hammered the drums. No. He was a genius in the timing and phrasing in a song.

    He puts that snare where it needs to be, the extra creativity and cymbal play on top are the cream. The distance between snare and kick is where the magic is made.

    They played symphonically! Each member handling either a time signature against another, or each member almost playing a section of a orchestra to my ears! Each section of the band always did ‘Their’ thing!
    And Bonzo was the actual heart beat of the band!
    Your comments on this video are spot on as usual Wayne! I’ve said it before brother, you have a great set of ears!

      Thanks Michael. This was one of my 1st Zep reactions. Just before I decided to start from the beginning.

    Bonham died as the class of '84 was starting our freshman year of HS. We'd all worn out our copies of In Through the Out Door and figured we'd finally get to see LZ probably next summer. The last time Zeppelin was in the Bay Area was 1977 when we were all eleven years old. There were lots of juniors and seniors at that infamous Day on the Green show, but not any of my friends.

      Was in my freshman year of college, 17 yrs old, basement apartment, living solo.
      Came home (walked) from class, turned on our local RnR station just as chick announces his death...played In My Time of Dying.
      Etched in my brain.

    Intweesting watching and hearing an old STB video about Zep as he's now one of their biggest fans but didn't know or react to a couple of their songs yet.
    I speak for many when i say we miss Wayne but get why he stepped away🙏

    Bonham's playing compared to the other drummers of that time is like the difference between plain tea and tea with sugar or cream added, it changes the make-up of the composition completely but stays "in the pocket"!

    The only thing I know about Chris Farlowe is the only hit song he had was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, "Out of time".

      Farlowe was unstoppable in the 60's from Handbags and Gladrags to his work with Atomic Rooster and then the real heavies.

    You won't get anywhere playing that loud. He then sent the guy a gold record. A copy I would suppose ! That's the story heard somewhere.

    What magic happened to have so many reactions unblocked?

  • @harmono8766
    @harmono8766 Рік тому +1

    9:02 I consider this to be Led Zeppelin's Purdy Suffle or 'Rosanna' by Toto shuffle. It does have a Reggae flavor. but that was Purdy.
    I would like the drummers here to notice that he was not loud and rocking all the time. These are sophisticated beats with subtlety. But yes he can be loud. I think I really first noticed him on 'Good Times Bad Times', his fills start the song, and are just perfect for that song. I heard this stuff around '76 - '77 and even then it sounded so cutting-edge, and mind-blowing. And yes it's the drums. Drums are the backbone of any beat band.
    When he died there were two problems. The friendship with Robert Plant was too close. The second reason was the improvisational nature of the band was almost a thing of the past by this time. It was like a lost art. So they might have had a hard time finding someone who could play it live. Alan White and Phil Collins were later called up for related projects.

    There is no explanation to what makes someone so otherworldly on whatever instrument they play. it can not be taught by any teacher. its inside them. Waiting to get out. And by pure luck John Bonham picked the right instrument to release it. As did. Luis Armstrong. trumpet. Django Reinhardt. Guitar

    So Soul Train Bro. Is it Neil Peart or John Bonham ? I’ll go with Neil. But, Bonham had a grove that for Led Zeppelin. But I believe Rush are actually better musicians. ~ Bill in Los Angeles

    • @SoulTrainBro
      @SoulTrainBro  Рік тому

      Rush are better musicians for sure. I put both bands shoulder to shoulder overall. The edge Zeppelin has, is their soul stirring ability.
