One thing other people have mentioned is he doesn't dash if you're in the tild against the wall so it's best to camp there when there aren't any axes to dodge. Side note: SGS is a really good spec wep if you don't have ancientgs or voidwaker. Good guide, thanks!
I find that highlighting just the axes’ starting position (12225) and NOT highlighting the flying axes (12227) is best. The flying axe indicators obscure the indicator for vardorvis’ head (12226) which is by far the most important thing to see throughout the fight.
You can also use the better NPC highlight plug in to highlight the head a different color than the axes if you feel like you can't see it in all those highlights. I like having the axes still highlighted while moving, in case I didn't see the axes on the other side while I was dealing with a different mechanic. Also as @jaredperry brought up, the sound for the head is pretty distinct. Once you're locked in on looking for the head attack though, it's pretty simple to spot it.

Wow, I truly hate this boss. I have died so many times to him. I hate that you have to walk SOOO far to get to your gravestone, get your stuff, then walk back ALL THE WAY again. I can't seem to ever pray ranged in time while still avoiding the axes and spikes I got a Blade of Saeldor and I still can't out-DPS him, FML, lol
Edit - I beat him. Had to get Dragon Claws to help with the end part I also stood in the very S.E. corner & actually read the Wiki article about the shortcut instead of going through the whole area every time
Vardorvis is hard. Practice makes perfect. You can mark the head using the Better Npc Highlight, which could help notice it faster. But for real, it's all about repetition since the boss is difficult. And remember to go do something else when you need a break. If the boss is becoming that frustrating, you should do something else for awhile
BGS is solid, but Vardorvis' defense lowers as the fight goes on anyways, so it's not a huge deal. Still better than no spec, but I'd prefer a weapon that deals good damage over the BGS here.
@@McVollman Zombie Axe is also good. Similar DPS to the Tentacle. I have an "hour of" video where I used the Tentacle and it did great. You seem too focused on the price of the weapons, instead of what the weapons do, DPS wise You say "my selection" like these are just the Slash weapons I chose. These are all the viable Slash weapons at the time of making the guide. Idk what else you would have added to my selection
@@TheEdB0ys oh no it’s nothing against your selection. I’m just saying the dps difference between scythe and salad are huge, now they nerfed fang there’s nothing to fill that gap. The price is because the dps difference between salad and tentacle just means that it’s not worth the upgrade. The fang at 30mil was just worth it. Just wish there was another weapon that helps us Ironman (myself) out.
@@MaxCCNP Well the percentage increase would depend on your stats and gear. Idk what your DPS is currently. The attack at a 4 tick pace, 100% accuracy, max hit of 3 (if using Greater Thralls). Thralls are very nice for faster bossing kills
@@Macswaggens It's still very good at bosses weak to stab (specifically ToA), which is what it was designed to do. Just gotta fight the right bosses with it To just get the 1 kill for quest, an Abyssal Tentacle should be plenty. Best of luck to you
@@TheEdB0ys I bought a hydra leather and torture, and then marked the axe lines in different colours. I also put the spitter id into the outline tab in the better tile marker and set it to red. Getting that kill was so expensive

I’m going to try that. I’ve learned to have to use sounds to hear the head because of the head being obscured.

Highly highly recommend using lightbearer as well as deaths charge + ancient godsword and blood fury. This makes this boss so fun and chill!

Use Piety w/ Voidwaker Spec, even though it gives a mage xp drop Piety is the way to go
