    Downsides outweigh the upsides, kinda leads me in a way that I generally wouldn t recommend any car produced later than 2016-17...not just for the maintenance but also for privacy and or ease of use/ to fix. I just hesitated and no, don t wanna go there, do what you like and feel free to believe that it s all for the good despite strong evidence against that, so yeah go check out electronic issues, privacy concerns with cars constantly monitoring you and the consequences etc. Oh yeah in simple terms, what a great progress that you consume 0,2l less per 100km if you then have to spend twice the amount on maintenance or get rid of the car earlier...making it necessary to go for the staggering costs of producing something new (in terms or raw costs, CO2 or whatever). But yeah whatever, I m sure some ChatGpt or Android Auto implementation or a coked up engine is totally worth it... next up: the EV faction on a lease agreement speaking up coz they couldn t afford the outrageous sales prices finding it fine that cars they have on a 3 year lease barely break even CO2 wise after 120-150k kms whilst being voluntarily surveilled the whole time (yeah guess, what if you charge your EV with a card, that tells a lot about u and it s not just that but hey, ignorance is bliss I guess...). Just whatever...

    I have a 2014 Jetta TDi and I’ve done the maintenance and mechanical so far. Changed the timing belt and water pump. Did some suspension work also.

    it´s so easy: in a profit related world, you only do more profit, when you sell more. If you are manufactoring products long lasting, at some point you are selling not as much, as at the beginning. This does understand a 12 year old.
    to argue things get complexer is a little bit poor ... yes everything gets complexer, but that´s no reason for engine damages under 80k miles, broken plastic parts after 3 or 4 years, etc. VW produces a 176kW bi-turbo-4-cylinder engine that "by design" does last longer than 80k miles. I know from first hand, that Skoda told a manufacturer of plastic parts to choose a specific ratio of raw material (which was more expensive, than manufacturer adviced to use) just sell more of that plastic parts, cause they brake easier after years.
    until a car isn´t that complex as a human body, there is no reason for damages or brake downs and a car should last as long as a human body.

    Mk 4 tdi and 1.8t jettas are my 2 cars. Turned up and maintained. I dislike complexity.
