A warranty only costs like $4k paid over 3+ years. So like after a year of banking monthly payments you'd have only like $1800. The trans on my truck costs like $8k to swap.

I operated an auto repair shop for 40 years, One guy came in with a transmission problem and we went through the procedure of contact the warranty company and I believe the estimate was about $1,500 at the time, so they said that the car was only worth $895 which wasn't really accurate and they would only pay up to the amount the car was worth. They charged the guy $1,200 for the warranty that they would only pay $895 maximum out on. I told him to file a complaint with the State insurance commission.

I bought a SmartAuto Care (part of Endurance I think) Warranty with my truck when I bought it. It extended the bumper to bumper warranty out on my truck to 6 years 100k miles. I renewed it when it expired and extended it to 10 years 180k miles. They paid out way way more than it cost me. I think both times it was $2500 but they paid out well over $25k over the life of the 2 contracts. My truck is a 2500 Dodge Ram Diesel so all repairs are expensive. They always paid for everything covered in contract. Never had any big problems with them and they never tried to get out of something they were supposed to cover. They treated me well. The only annoyance was that on expensive repairs they'd want someone to come inspect vehicle before approving it which took a couple days typically. And towards the end of the contract (post covid after repair costs really skyrocketed, they started wanting to supply the parts themselves and mail to the shop because the could source them cheaper than the shop (cause they had bulk purchase contracts) which made the repairs take way longer. And they would only cover rentals for while car was actively being repaired not while it was waiting for an inspector or parts which I always felt was unfair cause that wait time was being caused by the warranty company.

In 2014 I purchased a new 2014 Chrysler Town & Country along with the service plan. $3000 at the time of purchase. Currently the T&C has 170,000 miles and has had $23,000 in warranty covered repairs.

I responded, I'm happy to do it myself...I find it relaxing to detail my cars. With the extended warranty, he started to pit my wife against me....about the security and expense of modern electronics. I pushed back...suddenly, I found he was willing to negotiate on price. So we got the warranty. I've used it once...to replace a door mirror switch which was covered with no hassle. But based on that..they are still making a profit even after paying that signal repair. The service writer will caution by saying, we have to get the approval first.....and I remind him how the dealer touting the advantages of the warranty when we bought the car.

They just did this to me. I never ever filed a claim. I had a low mile 2017 Ford Escape and it had a freak coolant intrusion into the engine that ultimately resulted in my needing a whole new engine. They refused to even send and adjustor, and closed the claim and told my service advisor not to call back and try to reopen it, because that was their final decision. They are ruthless. My car had 59,554 miles. I had not even had the 1st official required maintenance yet, at 60k miles. I changed my oil at the dealership, and did all the things required by the contract. There was no reason to deny. I canceled my contract. During my last conversation with them, I was verbally abused (no lie) and the rep accidentally admitted, by saying, "if we HAD legitimately denied your claim, then"..., so I said, did you tell me that our call was recorded, and she said yes....I said.. Gotcha! She said I twisted her words. I said I'm taking this to Texas Dept of Licensing and Regulations, BBB, and whoever will listen, because you all are FRAUDS!

I think it is better to have an extended car warranty for used "German" cars because you never know when they break all of a sudden, but from my experience I suggest to avoid to buy a used german car.
Coming back to my story, I bought an Audi A6, and along with that, I bought an extended warranty, which I paid around $4000 for five years. 6 or 7 months after I bought the vehicle, the heating system (passenger, steering wheel, and heated mirrors) broke, and when i took it to the Audi dealership, the bill was around $8000, but I only paid $100 out of my pocket, and the rest was covered by the extended warranty. Meanwhile, I changed the tires and brakes, which I spent around $2000 before I sold the car after using it for about 18 months. When I canceled the policy, I got a refund of $3400. All in all, in my case I got benifitted from the extended warranty.

I own two vehicles. Purchased the Ford ESP Premium Care and the Mopar MaxCare - both were purchased just before the factory warranties expired at $50 over cost - fingers crossed. No warranty issues with the Ford and three minor warranty issues with the Chrysler while it was under factory warranty. Dealer (selling dealer 500 miles away) charged me for two repairs (neither done correctly), while the third was deemed 'within factory specifications'. I ended up paying my independent mechanic for the repairs (again). Our last new Mopar was bought in 1985 - exact same situation with multiple dealers several states away. Trying a different Mopar dealer for service going forward.

I think warranties can be hit or miss but repair shops pitching a fit and claiming a repair takes 3 months "because of the warranty" is BS. They get paid less for warranty work so a lot of shops will put and keep you at the end of the line. Just because you wanted to be cautious.

I've had endurance for the last 5 years and they have been great. My warranty paid for itself after my first major repair. The only issue is, they cover up to $130 an hour. Since I take it to the dealer. I have to come up with the difference of $30 per hour. It's a small price to pay in the end. It's better than forking out thousands. I'd buy endurance again on my next car.

After owning so many cars in my lifetime, as of now, factory extended coverage IS the way to go....period. Yes, they might charge you a bit more, but its worth it. Zero headaches, zero deductible , always a loaner driving home with and no question asked. I will never buy after market coverage, even if Oprah promotes them. And in the end, they even clean the car like new, before I get it back.

Warranty company is a scam. What i would do is save $100 - $200 a month for car repairs. Either put it in a bank and get interest rates or just stack up and hope nothing terrible goes wrong while you save. I heard nothing but bad things about these car Warranty places.. some of them won't even pay for the repairs.. some paid actress 👏🏾 😂😂

Too bad all the top repeatable mechanics shops across America. Come up with their own extended warranty system like one big national pool system whereas a client gets rewarded for keeping up with their maintenance. I imagine some system could be established where as an ASE mechanic that over all the top notch auto mechanic shops across America and he would make the decision on the coverage of the damage rather than an person being a desk having no knowledge whatsoever only looking out for company profits.
